From 2016 onwards, Honda Civic models have been known to have an issue with the electronic parking brake system, which can trigger a warning on the dashboard that prevents the vehicle from moving or reversing when starting up. The problem stems from the on-dash button not being engaged. Owners may see an "Electric Brake Problem" message on the center screen, along with warning lights for the brakes and brake system. To resolve this, it's often necessary to press the EPB button, turn the car off and on, which can turn off the warnings and allow the vehicle to engage drive or reverse gears again. Furthermore, approximately 350,000 2016 Civics were recalled due to the EPB failing to activate properly, resulting in cars rolling away even after the brake was applied. Honda has determined that the issue is caused by a software glitch in the vehicle stability assist control unit. Consequently, a class-action lawsuit has been filed to provide compensation to owners for any property damage caused by these incidents.
