We walked into Germain VW of Ann Arbor to look at Touregs and Tiguans on a busy Saturday without an appointment. Heather greeted us, finished with another customer, and immediately went about making us a priority. My husband and I are both young professionals and we needed to replaced my daily driver. At a few other dealerships in the area, we weren't taken as serious buyers--much to our frustration. Heather was not pompous or rude--she was delightful! Heather took the time to listen to our needs, even when some were rather specific or odd. We ended up test driving 3 vehicles, 2 VW's and an Audi. We loved the new 2017 VW Alltrack and felt like Heather really listened to our needs and help us choose the best vehicle. At no point did we feel like Heather was pushy or trying to sell us something we didn't need. She simply gave us a great amount of practical information and let us make our decision. She was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to answer all the questions my detail-orientated, engineer, gear-head husband could come up with. If you're a gear-head, Heather is your guru! She has practical experience working on vehicles and actually knew what she was talking about.I also need to note how Heather really went the extra mile. She stayed late (over an hour) twice to accommodate our schedules. She took the time to walk us through the features of the vehicle and really made sure we were happy. I also want to note a rather unusual event that happened while we were at the dealership one day. A gentleman, who I suspect was homeless and struggling with his mental health, came into the dealership and was causing quite a commotion. Not only did the employees of the dealership handle the situation with grace, they were incredibly kind to the gentleman, did not just kick him out or call the police as some businesses in the area do. I was very touched with the grace and tact that they handled the entire situation.I would happily recommend working with Heather and Germain Volkswagen of Ann Arbor. We will definitely be back!

With VW buying back our 2012 Golf TDI, my wife needed a new car. After test-driving several models at Germain VW of Ann Arbor, she decided on a 2016 GTI SE with DSG in Carbon Steel. Our sales rep, Ryan Rooney, was the best. He knew the product line well, offered constructive advice, and was very patient as we test-drove a number of cars. Unfortunately, there were no 2016 GTIs specced as my wife wanted withn the area where Ryan could make a dealer trade. Even though he couldn't ultimately sell us a car, Ryan will be remembered as one of the best sales reps I have encountered in over 40 years of purchasing cars. I recommend that anyone considering a VW visit Germain VW of Ann Arbor and see Ryan Rooney.

I don't usually go to a dealer for regular maintenance, but I had the $500 voucher from the TDI debacle and there were a few recalls I needed to attend to so I went to Germain for the recalls, an oil change and diagnostics on the check engine light that had been on and off for a few weeks. It ended up taking longer than expected due to needing some parts, but I had a loaner and they generously said that wouldn't be a problem. I picked my car up two days later and all seemed well until I tried to honk the horn and it didn't work, and it was off center. I called back and was told to bring it back in to have that checked. When I got there I found out that I would be charged for diagnostics on this. I explained that since this happened while it was there for service I did not expect to pay for it. They said they did not touch the horn so this was a new problem and I would be charged. I left without having it looked at.While this is not a major mechanical problem, I was very disappointed in the lack of customer service and respect. If they are not going to listen to my complaint and take responsibility, what else might they expect me to fall for? I will not trust my car there again.

By far the worst experience I've had with any car dealership. No respect for customer's time or loyalty. On one occasion, I was told that services would take two hours, so I waited, only to have the service take > 5 hours -- no additional services provided; they were simply low on personnel. To add to annoyance, I was never told why it was taking so long and when I would inquire I was told "we're working on it. Hang in there"Shame on me for going back for service several months later. I requested and was scheduled for a loaner car. Upon arriving at the dealership, I was told that they misscheduled their loaners and actually didn't have one for me. I was "generously" offered to wait for the car all day. I work full time, so this obviously wasn't an option. I highly recommend that the dealership rethinks their policy of not informing customers of unforeseen circumstances prior to their arrive to appoint. If these reasons aren't enough to stay away, be aware that regular services (ex: oil change) at Ann Arbor dealership cost more than other service locations (i.e. Livonia) If you don't value your time, money or general customer service.. Then this is the place for you!! Otherwise, avoid this dealership like the plague. Has made me regret my decision to buy a Volkswagen.

My 2013 Passat was in need of its 50,000 mile check up. I coordinated with my service rep, Danny Vogel, to schedule this maintenance and needed to change the date twice due to conflicts. Each time, Danny was very responsive and a date was scheduled. I live over 45 minutes from the dealer and the service was expected to take several hours. Danny made arrangements for a loaner car and delivered it to my house and took my car for the service. All of the agreed upon work items were completed and my car was returned to my home at a previously agreed upon time. Where do you go today for automotive service work that is completed properly and there is zero inconvenience? GERMAN VOLKSWAGEN!

I have being taking my car since I bought to this same dealership. It has been 4.5 years now. Every single time I have been there these guys make me feel I am the most important customer. They take very serious to give a high quality service. From the time they take to receive your car, execute the corresponding service, keep you on the loop, return the car to you when they said it will be finished and explain in a very detailed way all the things that were done as part of the service.In several occasions they have provided me drop-off or pick-up transportation.The last time I was there Marty was the one who helped me. He did it in a very professional way and attentive to service so good that it made me feel like if he had been helping me in several occasions before although it was just the first time. At the end I even got a bill less than what Marty told me when I drop-off the car because when they did the service they detected that the car did not need some part of it so I was not charged for that part!My car does is not under the factory (nor extended) warranty and I was thinking about maybe taking it somewhere else for the first time thinking I might save some money. Well, Germain and Marty convinced me to keep taking my car there for all the futures services and/or repairs.I TOTALLY recommend these guys!

A rare thing these days, this combination of prompt, professional service and personalized attention that one can find at Germain VW of Ann Arbor.Every single time I stopped by with questions or for routine maintenance for my Jetta, both the service and the repairs were impeccable.Most recently, my Supermobile, which I bought in 2007 from a very friendly and knowledgeable Eric Gideon, needed a lot of attention. After being in the shop for a brief period of time, the car was delivered in top shape and sparkling clean,. Jim Glen, the VW specialist I talked to during the repairs, answered all my questions with great enthusiasm and professionalism.. (Aside, I always have a lot of questions!:)During the time the car was there, we noticed some minor corrosion problems and Paul Stec, the service manager, immediately pursued repair options. A few weeks, the car was expertly repaired at Dusty's Collision and it now shines, in all its glory, in my driveway.Three elements go into making car ownership an excellent experience:1. The owner, who needs to do a lot of research before investing a product s/he will use for many years to come. I approached the research of my VW Jetta pretty much the same way I did my PhD research: the pros, the cons, technical specs, durability, aesthetics, etc. 2. The car, which has to be dependable and durable and maintain its value over time.3. The dealership and all its operating departments to ensure that during and after the sale/lease is completed, all runs smoothly.I am happy, and really grateful, to say that, these three elements came together very harmoniously at Germain.

Marty thoroughly explained the work on my vehicle, both before and after the service was completed. He checked for any recalls or other communications from VW. The service was done in the timeframe quoted. I have had great success at Germain (and Howard Cooper prior) on two Hondas and now the VW Jetta that I drive. We received word of a recall/ service campaign affecting our VW Jetta TDI. When another dealer Lansing refused to honor the open recall, we turned to Germain Volkswagen in Ann Arbor. After speaking with Marty to schedule a service appointment he assured me that the repair would be handled under warranty, as promised by Volkswagen. We brought the car in for service and our technician discovered that the components under recall had damaged the cylinder head. Marty was able to order a new cylinder head which was replaced under warranty. When they discovered that additional components had failed, those were replaced as well. To his credit, Marty not only ensured that the vehicle was fully repaired, but provided a loaner car for the duration. Marty and the entire service department at Germain provided an exceptional level of customer service. I will not hesitate to patronize Germain again in the future, based solely upon my experience with Marty. I highly recommend Germain Volkwagen based upon his integrity and professionalism.

I've been a customer of this dealership for the past 15 years and have nothing but the best things to say about the service they provide. After you buy your car, most of your interaction comes from the service department. I've worked with Phil Kaiser as my service technician for at least 10 years, and I have the utmost respect for him. He is knowledgeable, attentive, courteous and professional. There is another VW dealership that is closer to my home, but I wouldn't think of going anywhere else for service. Phil takes the time to explain everything thoroughly, honestly, and in a way that is easy to understand - Phil and Germain are the best!As an additional note, the improvements made to the service area and waiting room are amazing. It is by far the most beautiful and comfortable waiting area I've ever encountered in an auto service center.

Wow, so I haven't bought a new car in a few years, and I've never purchased a VW (or any foreign car!) so imagine my surprise and delight about my encounter with Germain Volkswagen of Ann Arbor. From my initial email research that connected me with Don Vollman, who was beyond helpful, replying to my e-query literally within minutes, and getting me in to see the car exactly when I needed to (not when he could fit it in) to Zach Coon, who teamed up with Don to provide, well probably the best car buying service I've ever experienced. No hard sell, fair price, good and fair trade in for my (dead!) car. The finance manager was super too, Kashaka, informative and patient and knowledgeable (but speedy! they got my paperwork in and approved within a couple hours). And the car? 2015 Car of the Year VW Golf, an exceptional little vehicle, I LOVE it!

"First time Pre Certified Volkswagen buyer (2012 Tiguan) " My wife and I were looking for a 2012 certified pre owned SUV vehicle, to replace an older vehicle we had owned. We had looked at several other SUV products, a Honda-CRV and 2 Subaru products and test drove these vehicles and were not impressed. The sale persons that we spoke with were unprepared, when we arrived at the dealerships and showed very little interest in performing their duties. We returned home and began our search again online. I recalled a conversation I had with a friend, who spoke highly of Volkswagen and several of their vehicles. I began searching online and found Germain of Ann Arbor and search their pre-certified inventory. I found a 2012 Tiguan I was interested in and called the dealership. I spoke to Chris Pugh and inquired about the vehicle, to see if it was available. Chris told me it was and I informed him that my wife and I would be over to the dealership within the hour , to look at the vehicle from the Saline area. When were arrived, we met with Chris who had the vehicle running/warm and cleared off, from the snow earlier that day. Chris gave us an overview of the vehicle exterior/ interior (loaded) and we test drove the vehicle on our own. The other dealerships had the sales persons ride in the back seat. We were impressed with the vehicle and placed a deposit. After a few days of texts and phone calls with Chris , we agreed on a price and purchased the vehicle. My wife was out of town on the agreed delivery date. Chris adjusted his work schedule that day, picked me up at our home and drove me to the dealership. I was impressed with Chris Pugh's professionalism, his non-pressuring approach and willingness barter on an agreeable price for this outstanding vehicle. On the delivery date, Chris had me speak with the Business Manager -Kashaka Fields. Kashaka was friendly and very professional as well, explaining every detail of the purchase. Kashaka was able to provide a new plate for the vehicle ( agent for SOS) at the dealership, which eliminated would have been a long wait at the SOS. Overall, our experience with Germain of Ann Arbor was extremely positive. The professionalism and friendliness Chris, Kashaka and the rest of the staff was very well received by my wife and myself. I would highly recommend Germain of Ann Arbor, if you are looking for a quality new or pre owned certified vehicle.

Phil Kaiser, Dennis Nold, Paul Stec, Trisha Smith and Kashaka Fields are all true professionals, who I believe are the best in their field. Always a great experience and they deliver what they say every time. Always true to their word. I always feel like they really care because of the individual time they spend with you. I give Germain of Ann Arbor all 5's because they are professional, friendly, the premises are spotlessly superior (even during remodeling), and the follow-up is exemplary. My precious bug is treated "reverently" and doesn't come back to me with any squeaks, or other issues after a minor repair...it even comes back hand washed! They bend over backward to provide a great experience and great service...no question is deemed frivolous and the response is always clear, coherent, and friendly..." if there is anything else we can do, don't hesitate to contact us, etc." All personnel I have encountered have been obviously proud of their own relationship with Germain and wish to extend that relationship to their customers. Couldn't be happier with my bug and my dealership.

I wish I had found this dealer rating site earlier because my comments are now some months old. I was a longtime customer of the service department at what was then called Howard Cooper VW in Ann Arbor. I never had an issue over many years. I had them do all sorts of work on my Jetta over time, really everything but tires. In total I had spent thousands of dollars at their shop to keep my car going. I had also sent others there always telling them they are kind of expensive but they typically fix it right the first time.Well, my last visit to this service department tells me something has changed with the new ownership. I had my car in right when the new owners were taking over to do several small repairs (a bulb burned out type of thing). I waited while they completed the repairs. I paid my bill, left and headed for work in Downtown Detroit. When I got to my job I parked and tried to use my parking brake (important in a stick shift car) and the handle came all the way up without any resistance. I concluded that their tech or porter must have cranked on the handle when parking the car and stretched the cable. I immediately called the shop to tell them what had happened. I spoke with Derrick Federer who had done my write up and explained the situation. I asked him to make a note in my records that they had broken the brake since I would not be able to bring it back right away (I have to travel quite a distance to get to this dealership so it isnt really convenient to run right back there).Long story short, I called a couple of months later (when I could get time off work) to set up an appointment and asked to speak with Derrick. I was told he no longer worked there. I explained about the issue with the brake and they checked my record. They acknowledged that Derrick had noted the parking brake issue in my record. I took the car in and they looked it over. Their conclusion was it now needs a new parking brake cable. They offered to pay for the labor but wanted nearly $400 for the part and expected me to pay for it. I explained that their employee had broken the brake and it was their responsibility to fix it. I was told that since my car was old they wouldnt do any more than what they offered. Later that week I called to speak with Paul Stec, the service manager who I had dealt with on several occasions. He was supposedly in training that day but they said they would leave a message to have him call me. After a couple of weeks with no call back I left another message and then a third for him. I received no call back from Paul Stec.Later I was contacted by the VW Corporate Customer Care group like they always do to survey if your service visit to a dealership was satisfactory. I explained what had happened. I dealt with Tonya and Libby. They told me they would get in touch with the Service Manager, Paul Stec and try to get resolution. Over several weeks they kept updating me that they were also waiting for a response and leaving more messages for Paul Stec. When that response never came they told me they were going to escalate the claim and left a message for the General Manager of the dealership (they did not give me his name). Again several weeks passed and with no response they left more messages for him (the General Manager) where he refused to respond. My last interaction with the folks at VW Corporate Customer Care in September of last year was that they told me I would have to pursue this on my own because there was nothing they could do since nobody at the dealer ship (Paul Stec or the General Manager) would return their calls.I took their advice and had the brake fixed elsewhere since I refused to pay this dealership to fix something they had broken. I also have vowed to never return because of their unacceptable response. Since both the Service Manager and the General Manager of this dealership refuse to respond to repeated calls from a customer and from the VW Corporate Customer Care group, this is a business I will not deal with in the future.Update: Since the dealership found out that this negative review was about to post, they have tried to get in touch with me in the past week. Interesting that for months of my leaving messages and VW Customer Care leaving messages for both Paul Stec and for the General Manager they made no attempt to call back. It was evidently my problem and they could not care less. Now this negative review was about to become their problem and they are calling me. I think that says all you need to know about the management team at this dealership.I have no intention on wasting any more time on these guys. There is nothing they can do for me and I am not ever going back. The point of this review was to post my experiences for others to see. The time for us to talk was months ago when I was trying to get them to fix what they had broken, and before I had the repair done elsewhere.I miss the award winning dealership that used to be Howard Cooper.While I will never return, I know they have many positive reviews on this site. As you are deciding whether you want to trust this service department with your vehicle, at least know there is a chance that you could be treated as I have been. I would also advise you to get any promises in writing (and signed by them) for something they plan to do, and fully check your car before you drive away. If worse comes to worse and you do have an issue, at least know while they may not respond to your problem, they do respond to negative reviews on this site.

I found that, despite being peppered with questions from a guy unfamiliar with Diesel cars, Phil was patient and diligent in ensuring that I had all of the answers to those questions. He has been quick to respond by phone and e-mail and he seems vested in assuring my complete satisfaction.Eric (sales) has also gone out of his way to help me get the best value from my purchase. I'm already looking forward to my next VW! Now if VW will put a diesel in the small SUV, we'll be ready.

I limped into the Germain VW dealership after closing time with a non-functioning power steering system on my VW CC . It was one of Michigan's 12 degrees below 0 nights. Ryan Conlin and Paul Stec very kindly and efficiently attended to me after hours and made sure I was taken care of until my wife picked me up. Ryan made all the arrangements for the car to be attended to the next day and did so with care and efficiency. Both servicemen went out of their way to deal with this unfortunate situation even delaying their own return home until I was safely on my way home. They did it because they genuinely wanted to be of help even at their own inconvenience. This personal concern and attention is very rare and was greatly appreciated.

I had an outstanding service experience. I needed an oxygen sensor replaced on my VW and after researching options, decided to use this service center. They were extremely friendly, made sure I got the best price possible, and scheduled me to bring the car in promptly. I really appreciated that they took the time to explain the problem with my car and the associated service required. When I brought it in, they were extremely professional and friendly and demonstrated amazing customer service. I chose to wait at the dealership while they fixed my car, but they offered to drive me anywhere I wanted to go in Ann Arbor to pass the time. While waiting at the dealership, the waiting area was comfortable, clean, and provided coffee, snacks, and WiFi. The service was very prompt and repairs were well done. I will be returning to the dealership for any future maintenance needed and would recommend this dealership and Ryan to anyone in need of these services.

Allen west was as helpful as he could be... I had work done the day before and thought that my day lights needed repair as well..So called Allen and he told me he would have a scan done on the car to see where the problem was at no charge if I would bring it back in.. I did this and the scan did not pick up any problems plus the day lights were working again. He told me if the lights went out again to call him and he would take another look. I discovered when I got home that the reason the day lights were not working was when I put on the emergency break that they shut off ,so every time I went to check them they were off because I had applied the er brake!!!!! I calledAllen , apologized and told him what I discovered and he replied that it was okay and he was glad there was no problem with the lights. I will definitly have all my service done at Germain VW in the futture and will tell others about the excellent service at the dealership

My service required two visits, because a vacuum hose broke after the first visit, VW of Ann Arbor gave me a discount on the second service to make up for my having to bring my daughter's Jetta back for the second visit. Service work done well, and Service Representative and Service Manager both great to work with. Highly recommend for service on your VW.

The worst VW dealer in town. Please stay away. I take my 2006 VW Passat with 86k miles to them. They not only created an explosion in the engine but decided that the issue is not due to their poor service. Arrogant and incompetent service. Even if you have to drive 30 mts, it is still worthwhile taking it another vw dealer. I took my car to them for low oil pressure and my car is worth nothing now.

This was my regular 20k service appointment for my 2013 Passat. This is my third Passat and I have had all of them serviced at Volkswagen of Ann Arbor. This appointment, like all the others left me feeling that I have chosen the right dealership. I was able to schedule my appointment on the day I wanted, even with short notice. The Service rep was very easy to work with and even followed up with a call the following day since he wasn't there when I picked up my car. He was checking just to be sure I didn't have any questions. We are the Frierson's, and on October 10Th, 2013, Zachary Coon helped get us into a New 2013 Volkswagen Tiquan.He was extremely patient & Friendly. He took the time to make sure before we left that we were comfortable in the car aswell even helping us set up some are features like bluetooth before we left. It was after closing but he patiently even after paperwork signed to make sure we were happy. That mean't alot because we felt like now were going to have a long termrelationship with someone we can trust.We would like to give alot of thanks to Kashaka Fields, who also was extremely Knowledgeable, & patient. WHY: I offer this rating: because I was completely satisfied with the response of all personnel to my numerous questions, the time spent answering those questions, the eagerness to please and provide me with the car I wanted (and making sure it was in perfect condition), complete with explanations of differences to consider between vehicles, and wanting me to be completely satisfied (which I am). Virtually unlimited offers of test drives, etc. Everyone in the showroom and, yes, the merchandise center, were very naturally friendly and eager to welcome me to the dealership. When you walk through the door, you are greeted in a very natural, helpful, but not pushy way. I am 71, and this is the nicest dealership I have encountered since driving at the age of 16. Everyone seems "real" here. The follow-up is amazing. My VW Turbo Convertible is awesome! It is the perfect car for me.

Stopped in after an obtaining some information online. The sales staff seemed friendly, although a bit preoccupied. Test drove a new Passat TDI and began the buying process. They were not transparent regarding the numbers I was shown. They were unable to explain their valuation of my trade and it seemed as though Zachary was basically a mediator between the sales manager and myself, with no real purpose. I ended up leaving with them stating they would call me the next day after making a few calls on my trade. I received no call from them and only recently got what appeared to be an automated email. Needless to say I was very disappointed with my experience and will never do business with this dealer nor recommend them in the future. I came close to not buying a new car at all after this, but decided to try another dealer. I ended up purchasing my 2014 Passat TDI from Al Serra Volkswagen in Grand Blanc. They were completely transparent about everything, offered me a better purchase price right from the start and also gave me exactly what I wanted for my trade.

Had a great experience. Had gone to another dealership in Ohio looking to purchase either a Volkswagen CC or Passat. Had a terrible experience with that dealership and did not want to deal with them any further. Had already searched your website a week or so previous for a Passat in White, you did not have. Checked back after the bad experience in Ohio and you had the Passat in Tungsten Silver. Your sales manager was willing to match the price we were quoted in Ohio. With that we came the next day and purchased the Passat. Zach Coon was our salesman. He was very personable and helpful. Overall, great experience.

I was locked out of my rented Passat as I had accidentally left the keys in trunk before closing the trunk. The car was locked and while AAA technician was able to open the doors, he was not able to open the trunk. The car did not have folding rear seats and the rental company asked me to tow the car to a Volkswagen service center. Paul and his team were extremely helpful, and were able to open the trunk after a short assessment, allowing me to continue onward on my journey. They also provided this service free of charge which made the entire experience extremely pleasant. I would recommend all local VW owners to visit VW of Ann Arbor for their service needs. Phil Kaiser made my accident his priority. He assisted me by keeping me informed of each step of the repair and worked with the insurance company in fairly dealing with me. His explanations were clear and greatly appreciated. Phil is a member of what I consider a fantastic service staff. Germain of Ann Arbor has far exceeded my expectations and Phil is in my opinion an excellent example of service and customer first. Went to this dealership to buy my first Volkswagen, and was initially extremely excited. My experience buying the actual car was actually pretty positive, my sales consultant (Chris Hamm) was very helpful and friendly. However, after I drove my car off the lot my experience turned gray. I could not get my car titled or registered and called the dealership numerous times, all of which led me to dead ends. No one in any of the multiple service departments I was transferred to could help me. Finally I called Volkwagen Credit, and to my surprise they had no record of my existence. Finally after 2 weeks, and still no proper paperwork, the finance manager calls and explains he filled out the paperwork incorrectly and that VW credit rejected the contract based on his clerical error. I was overwhelmed with the lack of knowledge these people had, and was quite upset I couldn't register my car and my temp tags were expiring. I explained my concerns to Kashaka and he told me I had no official contract with Volkswagen since my contract was rejected, and I needed to either come back in and resign or return the car. I decided to return the car and go to a dealership I trusted more.I had to take a vacation day off of work to try to get this car business taken care of for a second time. When I arrived, I told Kashaka I just wanted to return the vehicle, and enjoy a Volkwagen from another dealership. He said, "alright." He walked out and explained what was going on to his sales manager, Trisha Smith. Dealing with Trisha Smith is by far the absolute worst customer service experience I've ever experienced anywhere in my life. She walked into the room shaking her head saying, "no you can't do that, you can't do that, no way." She was so unprofessional, even upon explaining the situation. I told her I was getting a VW from another dealership I liked and she came back saying, "I'm getting them in trouble. I don't know why they would try to sell to you." After dealing with her and Kashaka for around 2 hours I realized they weren't listening to anything I wanted. Anytime I mentioned anything about what Kashaka said about returning the car Trisha would just say, "no" and tell me she was looking for paperwork to register. I told her I wasn't resigning the contract after this experience, and she said, "that's fine, well just push it through without your permission." I expressed my concerns about having a new financial contract I didn't sign, but it did not matter to this duo. Trisha explained there was no way to return the vehicle once again, so I called Volkwagen credit and Volkswagen Cares myself. After speaking to specialists they told me it was possible for them to take back the car, but that they just didn't want to. I brought this to their attention, and they were just like "no."Flabbergasted, and not allowed to speak to the dealerships gen manager, I filed a dealership complaint through VW of America and have a current case pending. I could not believe how much they lied to me, how rude they were, and that they actually admitted they were forging a legal document. They clearly did not care about my business or customer experience at all. Upon leaving, I told Trisha that instead of being concerned about punishing another dealership for wanting my good business, maybe she should look at her own team who wasted my time and didn't even know their policies/lied to me, and that I couldn't believe I wasn't getting any concession for my extreme inconvenience. Her response was an apology. Not helpful.I unfortunately will most likely never buy VW again, and I will definitely never use this dealership or recommend them again.

I've always gone to the Volkswagen dealership in Ann Arbor for their outstanding service department, but up until the most recent visit I had never purchased a vehicle there. Frankly I never found their pricing to be competitive, and their sales staff never seemed particularly interested in selling me a car. Three years ago their pricing (on vehicle/trade) was almost $2500 higher than the competition-- and so I bought elsewhere.Knowing that the dealership had recently changed hands, and looking to purchase a new car, I decided to give them another try. This time they came through with a fair price on my trade and a competitive discount on the new car that I wanted. Yes, we had to haggle back and forth on price a bit, but Zach Coon was great and offered me an extended test drive (for a day). The sales manager was friendly and didn't try to play games with me during the negotiation. Glad to report that things have definitely changed for the better. Overall a very positive experience.

This is by far the best VW service department I have gone to in my 14+ years of owning a VW Jetta. When I moved from FL to MI in the Fall 2011, I had concerns about my 2001 Jetta because stuff came out of my car. Allen West immediately got my car scheduled. When he called to give me an explanation of what happened and it was nothing major to worry about. Allen could tell I was a bit nervous because so he put Allen Perrault, the technician who worked on my car, discuss the cause and told me it was not a major cause of concern and he recommended I NOT spend a lot of money on something so minor. When Alan P. said no, I was actually surprised because a former boyfriend worked as a technician for a dealership in FL, and it was stressed to always recommend fixing minor things or suggest other maintenance so the dealership could make more money. Every time I come to this dealership, I almost always work with Allen West or Phil Kaiser as my service reps. When I walk through the door, they greet me by name and already have everything ready for me and know exactly why I'm visiting them. On only one occasion did they bring up a concern that was outside of my planned scope of work (my front brake pads were starting to wear low), but they have always left it up to me to make the decision. I have never been pressured to have additional work done that is not needed. And by the way, as far as the break pads, I asked them to make a note on my account because my next big maintenance was coming up and I would take care of it then - I just needed the extra reminder, in case I didn't bring it up on the phone when I scheduled my appointment. On the rare occasion I worked with someone else, I have also received excellent customer service.Also, on my second visit, I met Paul Stec, the Service Department Manager. I will always remember the look on his face when I went up to him and asked to speak with him about the service I received. He appeared ready to deal with an angry customer, so it was funny seeing his expression change when I told him how much I enjoy working with his team.As comparison, and to see why I actually love dealing with Germain Volkswagen of Ann Arbor, below are short summaries of my experiences with other VW Service Departments:I first dealt with a VW dealer in Northern Virginia, they weren't bad and never tried to "upsell", but when I walked through the door I was never greeted by name, and I can pretty guarantee they didn't recognize me either (even though I ALWAYS have maintenance done at the scheduled time).My next dealer in Alaska was by far the worst. Every time I picked up my car from the service department something was wrong or even worse, broken and needed an expensive fix. If it's not obvious, I want my car to run forever and VW's are known for this. It was the only dealer where I lived, so I could not change dealerships even though I HATED going to them. I went to two different dealerships when I lived in FL. The good news with them is my car never left the service department needing additional work like I experienced in Alaska. The bad news is i never felt comfortable going to either one because they always wanted to sell service that wasn't needed.

Transition-The walls where shadows of Howard Cooper remain makes it seem not ready yet-Very little "New" Volkswagens were on display-I came back twice to "sign" papers-No forms-not ready yet-The Showroom-Offices-not ready yet-Speed up the transition- Kashaka, Zachary & along with other sales & service personel made my "visits" pleasant-Coupled with the fact I wanted another Volkswagen-Originally another GTI-So I was sold before I met them & had the desire-I hope the Volkswagen stands as tall as the Audi at Germaine-Their Team, at least the ones I met, make me feel I did the right thing by purchasing at the Germaine dealership.

I came into service Wednesday afternoon, Thanksgiving Eve you may say. I needed mt garage door clicker synced to my VW Touareg. Your service man told me I have to do it in my garage and gave me a website and showed me how to get the information so I could do this myself. I thanked him and left. When I got to my car I noticed one of the wheel center cap emblems was missing. I returned and ordered on. $30.00 + I payed at cashier. Everyone could not have been nicer and faster.At Thanksgiving dinner one of my sons heard my wife tell about the garage clicker and cap. He said I should have checked online before ordering cap. After dinner we checked and found many places we could buy 4 caps at $20.00+including shipping.Friday morning I called and asked to cancel my order. Jim told me it was already ordered and may be shipped. I told him I am sure it was ordered but I doubted it was shipped thanksgiving eve. He took my credit card and said he would credit it. I did not have my order/invoice so he asked me to call him back to make sure it was done. 5 minutes later Jim called and told me the credit was taken care of and I should have a great day.

However, that said I've had a taste of the pinnacle caliber of professionalism and customer service new cars delivers upon through the two prior new cars my Dad has leased from new cars in the early fall of 2009 & 2012.
