I had a vehicle transferred from Naperville CarMax by Pam, a 2011 Infiniti G37S Coupe. I got a call saying the car was ready for me to check out, so I went to see it. I went on a test drive with my new sales consultant, Dan, and I thought the car was ok and was very interested, but didn't buy it immediately. I left and came back a few days later since I have been busy with work, and I wanted to check the car out once more, but more thoroughly this time, as I had a check in hand and wanted to be certain this is EXACTLY what I wanted. Unfortunately, Pam, my original sales consultant had left already by the time I got there, and I had completely forgot I had worked with Dan last time I came before and a new lady who's name I will not disclose began to help me. As soon was we turn on the car, there are two lights on that should not be on, the parking brake light and the car battery light. I consulted with a few of my other friends online, all whom all own Infiniti G37's and who I would trust more than an alleged ASE Certified tech at CarMax, and those lights are a warning that the alternator is about to give out, and it needs replaced. On top of that, all four rotors on the car were horribly grooved and needed replaced, not resurfacing. I told the lady I want the rotors replaced and the alternator was showing signs that about to go out replaced, the lights turning on, and I wanted it replaced too or I was not interested. Her response? Let me quote her text message with the same spelling and lack of punctuation "Service said light on cause of key did a diagnostic test no alternater issue. That why u get a warranty if u have issues down the road." xxxx of a warranty sales pitch huh? I owned an Infiniti G already and I had my Intelligent key battery die, and I can assure you, the light that turns on for a dead key fob, battery is the "Key" light, not the parking brake and car battery light. Continuing along, I reply to her text, "Can you have Dryer Reinbold Infiniti test it?" To which she has the audacity to respond with "You can once you buy it we have the same machine they have. U have 30 days" What the xxxx kind of response is that!? And I have 30 days? To my knowledge, CarMax offers a 5 day money back return policy, not 30 day return policy. All she wanted was me to purchase the car so she could get her commission, and all I wanted was the alternator replaced and I would have bought the vehicle on the spot. Also, during my short test drive, I asked to take the car on the highway, because I wanted to see how it is like at highway speeds and to make sure the cruise control functioned propperly, and she said no because they aren't insured. Then she made up a story of somebody coming from Florida to test drive a Corvette here in Indiana and she said that the driver killed the CarMax salesman. I did digging on that and she technically didn't fully lie to me for once. Somebody did kill a salesman during a Corvette test drive, but it was in Canada, and the guy was suspected to be high on drugs. Terrible experience from a xxxxxx salesperson who just wants her commission. On top of that, the car was overpriced, why didn't I listen to what everyone else told me! I am taking my business directly to an Infiniti dealer where newer 2012 Infiniti with AWD and with 25k less miles on the odometer for only roughly $1,100 more than this one was priced lol. In a way, I guess she did me a favor with her pushy attitude. Regardless of that, this is NOT how you do business. Stay away from this place AT ALL COSTS. I would NOT recommend this place to ANYONE and will tell everyone I know to STAY AWAY from here. ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR EXPERIENCE.

Don't offer to pay cash, they want you to get a loan so they can make money off the interest. The sales people need a refresher course on manners and customer service. I had interest in purchasing a vehicle but they had this "we don't care if we sell a car" attitude. It was like the attitude you get from the people at the BMV. The people there look miserable half the time. I would never do business with them and will be sure to pass my experience on.

I just wanted to share my experience with a CarMax chain (Chicagoland area) in my area and their gross negligence and all-around lack of customer empathy. Heres a quick breakdown of what happened: April 3rd- Trade in my old vehicle and purchase a new vehicle from local CarMax location. April 5th- Leave town for Indianapolis for my sons soccer tournament with 4 other children. April 6th- While driving down the highway at 70mph, brakes go out completely. Now first off, let me just say that there is nothing more terrifying that trying to come to a stop when you realize you have no brakes. This level of fear is only heightened knowing that your own son is in the car along with four other children that you are responsible for. There must have been someone or something watching over us because luckily we were able to get off on an exit and loop around back onto the highway without any collision to eventually slow enough to come to a stop. For that, I am beyond thankful for. I wish I could say the same for CarMaxs customer service. After calming all four children down (and myself), I called the CarMax location where I originally purchased the vehicle. Of course, they initiated the game of Call this person, we cannot help you. So I called the nearest location and they say that they are sending out a tow for us. Over 2-hours later: nothing. Absolutely nothing. Imagine having 5 children in your car for that long on the side of the road. I decided I could not wait any longer and got the vehicle towed to a local mechanic myself. At the repair facility, I find out from the certified mechanic that the reason the brakes failed was because they were not secured properly. The mechanic informed me that the brakes were supposed to be fastened with two (2) screws to the brake wheel. My brakes were only attached using one (1). A common mistake, maybe? Yeah right! One of CarMaxs famous brags is that every vehicle goes through a 125-point inspection! My question is how would something THIS important that is holding the drivers side brakes together go unchecked during this inspection??!? The entire auto body shop began to flutter in and out to see the mechanism and it was the general consensus that we were lucky to be alive. I called CarMax again to schedule a loner car and to inform them I will be bringing back the vehicle for repair. I distinctly said that I had FIVE children with me along with myself, and would need a vehicle that would accommodate the six of us. Of course, when I arrive at the location at 6pm on Saturday, I am greeted with a car with only one back seat. That would be great if I only had 3 kids, but I had 5. After another 45-minute wait, I am given a proper automobile. And here we are now, THREE days later and I have been given no information whatsoever on the status of my vehicle. I call into the location where I dropped of my car and I was told that It was too soon to tell and that I had just dropped off my vehicle. I understand that they have other cars to work on, but how is three-days-ago considered just dropped off. So here we are today, and this issue has yet to be resolved. Under any circumstances, I would be livid at the way we were treated. But the real kicker is that throughout this entire process I have yet to hear a single apology. How difficult is it to say: Sorry for ruining your weekend and dick-ing you around to get your vehicle fixed. Not to mention all the time of yours we wasted. Oh, and for allowing one of our vehicles to nearly kill you and 5 young children 3-days after taking it off of the lot! Gee, we sure are sorry! At this point, I would love to tell them where they can shove their apology. A word to the wise for those of you considering CarMax, heed my story as a warning. If it happened to me, there is no doubt in my mind that it has happened to someone else and WILL continue to occur!

Most of their cars are overpriced compared to other dealers and if you ask for a lower price, they absolutely will not negotiate and act insulted if you even suggest such a thing. Then they have the gall to tell you they aren't making much on the car. I couldn't even get $300.00 off their badly overflated price! Car Max says they will buy your car whether or not you buy one of theirs. This is true, but be wary, they will give you a lowball price which is basically wholesale and act like they are doing you a favor. Stay away from CarMax and get a GM or Ford certified vehicle instead. You'll get a better car at a better price.

I went into this dealership looking for a specific vehicle. Upon initially meeting Roahmad he was friendly, but didn't seem very knowledgeable about the vehicles or the process. In the days following have a vehicle transferred to this location I was not only treated poorly, but the prices on the vehicles are really not that great. Their financing options are not good -- and I was given incorrect information throughout the process. I asked to speak to a sales manager (whose name I can't remember) and was disrespected on the call. The sales manager took a condescending tone with me and was not willing to work with me at all. Ultimately, I did not believe in voting with your dollars and I ended up purchasing the vehicle at a better price from a much more knowledgeable/friendly salesperson 3 days later.

I went to Carmax because I knew they had a lot of cars in stock. They were generally in good condition. When I did a little research on book values and what other dealers were selling similar cars for I realized they are overpriced by a lot. I asked if they could be a little more competitive in pricing compared to their competitors and they acted shocked I would even ask such a thing. In the end I decided to let them keep their overpriced cars and bought from someone who knows how have nice cars and good prices.
