I visited Competition Subaru November 1st. and I was greeted by Carol Glass, after arranging the visit over the internet. She took me to see Norris and he was very professional explaining the different options that I have in the vehicle that I was looking for. He did not have it, but he offered me to take a road test in a vehicle a trim above. I did not feel any pressure trying to close the deal.I returned a few days later with the decision to buy. I asked him if could be anything else that he could do price wise and he did good. I ordered it and now I am waiting for the moment I receive a call from Competition telling me the car is ready.

Just purchased a legacy limited from Jeff Barkan. Had gotten price through truecar, which I believed wasreasonable. No pressure or upsell, they honored the price without argument. When I explained that I would have difficulty getting in to pick up the car, Jeff offered to give me a ride in. He fully checked me out on the car controls, since I got a car with all the upgrades and advanced safety features.Buying a car has always been for me like a trip to the dentist, only worse. This was my best experience yet.

I had come to Competition after a rather distasteful and unprofessional experience at a nearby dealer from their sales manager (to be remain unnamed). However, once at Competition, I felt a complete 180 and was treated with incredible honesty and professionalism. I worked with Norris who was incredibly attentive and made the entirely process quick and seamless. I plan on referring anyone I know in the market for a Subaru or similar make to Norris and Competition.

I have not had a new car in14 years so I thought it was time to look into leasing. My experience with Norris went above and beyond any car salesman I have ever done business with. He was so thorough and worked extremely hard to get my car in sooner than the two weeks originally promised. I also received a loaner car since the car I was driving was being sold. I bought a new car and had to wait for the car to arrive at the dealership. Jeff Barkan, my salesperson, keep me informed until the car arrived. When the car arrived, he spent at least an hour explaining all the dials and buttons and how everything worked. He wanted to make sure I was safe for my long drive home. There was no question that I asked that he did not have the answer too. When little problems arose, he solved them very fast. He gave me his full attention and was not in a rush to get rid of me. If you are looking for a new car, this is the man to go too.

After driving and comparing several different vehicles of various brands, we decided on the Outback. Went to Competition Subaru and had Cathy Kelleher as our salesperson. What a wonderful experience...she gave us all the time we needed to make a decision and was extremely knowledgeable about the cars she was selling. When it came to price, she was very open and honest and we purchased the car at a very fair price. Cathy stayed in touch with us all the way through the process and any glitches along the way were immediately addressed. Vinnie Moscardino also helped to speed the process along. In short, we would buy another vehicle from Cathy in a heartbeat, she is a real asset to Competition Subaru and she made our experience outstanding!

I was excited on leasing my first Subaru, and after reading all the great reviews on Jeff I was eager to work with him. Norris provided us with a straight-forward sales experience. Everything was clearly explained and transparent. After we placed our order, he happily followed up on all of our subsequent questions about the delivery and transfer paperwork. I'm not sure why this dealer doesn't have a much higher rating. We just bought a new Subaru Legacy there, and it was one of the easiest car buying experiences we've ever had.We looked online for the configuration we wanted, and visited a couple of local Subaru dealers. I'm still amazed at how little some of the sales reps knew about their products. However, that was not the case at Competition: Our sales rep Eric knew his products, and was able to answer our questions. He was also very easy to deal with: no high-pressure sales tactics.We wanted a competitive price, which meant Eric got Lisa (Sales Manager) involved in the process. She was able to meet our expectations (better than the other dealers offers, and well below Edmunds). We completed the paperwork, and drove the new car home that day. Competition Subaru, you've made a fan!

It was so pleasent to buy a car from a women! Cathy our sales person was extremly knowledgable, personable and made us feel completely at ease. I was very nervous about the financing. Dina was a doll. I was concerned about our credit rating and she made me feel like it's no problem well get you financed with out looking down on us and made us feel like there's nothing to be embarressed about. We recently leased our 6th Subaru Outback, the third one from this dealership. On 8/4 /16 I was just about to purchase a Rav4. Just before returning to the dealer I stopped at Competition Suburu. Jeff introduced himself and I told him "I was just looking" Jeff's reply was that's fine but if you have any questions ,I will try to answer them . I started looking at the Forester and true to his word Jeff answered all my questions . I decided to take him up on his offer for a test drive. My wife accompanied me in the front of the vehicle while Jeff sat in the rear and very quietly pointed out the good points of the Forester. He never once knocked the Rav 4 . On returning. to the showroom I had decided the Forester was the way to go. We reached a deal very quickly. Jason the finance manager arranged my loan and again without any pressure he accpted my decisiion to forgo the extended warrany. The entire staff was professional and made a usually frustrating experience not too bad ( actually it was pretty good)

I asked my husband to contact the dealership to cancel the added security service agreement 2 days after I bought it with my 2016 Forester. The cost was added to the amount financed by Subaru Motors Finance / Chase at 0% for 36 months. Unlike the long written warranty contract, the only proof of cancellation I got was a plain piece of paper with a hand-written note "Cancelled service contract on 7/5/16". He asked if the bank loan contract will be amended due to the cancellation but was told that it's a bank matter, it can't be done and there will be no refund. The cost will just be deducted at the end of the bank loan and that the monthly payment will stay the same which will shorten the length of the loan. What I have for the cancellation was a piece of plain paper (no business heading, whatsoever), very unprofessional to my opinion. If there's a form for this purpose, why not use it? Is it true a bank loan agreement can not be amended or changed, like for this purpose? What assurance do I get, since I only have an unofficial piece of paper) that the cost of the cancelled service agreement will be credited to my auto loan.

Sales consultant Norris Capobianco didn't pressure and provided car very similar to what we were looking for to test drive at our leisure. Colors in stock didn't match inventory on hand so we ordered from factory. He was helpful in putting together order for exact car we wanted and said it would take 8-10 weeks (it took 9). We had priced via Internet so we got a good deal. Dealer took care of all the paperwork when car came in and was ready when we went to pick it up. Norris took his time showing us how all the features worked. Overall, an excellent experience.

I purchased my 2015 Crosstrek from Vinny and had a wonderful purchasing experience. Because of convienience I started using Donaldson for service. From day one I never had a good experience. Recently I had a wheel bearing that started making noise and took it to Donaldson's. First that charged me $69.95 for diagnostics and then quoted $650 for the replacement and install. I called Competition to get a quote and they told me it would be covered under warranty.. The service was completed today and what a great experience. I will never step foot at Donaldson's again and will definately have my vehicle serviced at Competition Subaru from now on. Ordering my sixth Subaru from one dealership should speak volumes. First to the quality of the brand and secondly towards the dealership who has not only provided excellent sales service, even months after a purchase with a question and one problem, thanks Jeff Barkan, which was addressed immediately, to the service department which truly does go out of its way to please. This is not to say all dealerships are created equal. Hope your kicking yourself Metric, who years ago proved that their sales department was far less honorable that any car salesman joke.

EVEN THOUGH I TOLD HIM I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE LEGACY THAT I WAS WISHING TO BUY, HE DEMONSTRATED ALL THE FEATURES AND OPTIONS AVAILABLE, LIKE NONE OF THE OTHER DEALERSHIPS HAD DONE AND HAD ME TEST DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN TO MAKE SURE I WAS HAPPY WITH THE WAY IT DROVE. HE GAVE THE BEST PRICE AND MADE ME FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH MY CHOICE AND I AM HAPPY WITH MY NEW CAR. THERE WERE NO "SURPRISES" UPON DELIVERY AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED BEFORE. I am one of those people that drive the same car for 15 years. I think for the most part we all have that overall feeling that going to a car dealer is going to be an unpleasant experience. Once I figured out I wanted a Subaru and did all my homework, off I went to Competition Subaru in St. James NY. Well, if I was asked to rate my experience on a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to say a 15 or better!!No games, no nonsense, you get what your told. Of course you need to ask questions and pay attention. My sales person was Cathy Kelleher and she was GREAT, from our first meeting right to the end and even still with follow up "how do you like your car? any problems?" calls. Dina Gasparini was my finance manager. Dina was also GREAT to work with. All my options were laid out, with no pressure. It seems from a lot of reviews I have read about common problems is when "The Book" comes in the mail and the number is not what your thought it would be. Of course much higher. My number, the exact number Dina told me. Subaru's are Great cars and these two ladies are the ones you want to buy one from!!! Ann Savickas

Went to this dealership first because it was closest to where I live. The employees there let me walk around for about 15 minutes without asking if I needed help. I finally asked the secretary if there was someone I could talk to about new car, she proceeded to call someone over who was just sitting at their desk reading a magazine. The salesman was uninterested in giving me an estimate on my trade in unless I signed paperwork with him first. I asked him why would I sign paperwork if I don't know how much you will give me for my car. Proceeded to say I can only give you an estimate, which was ridiculously low. Headed over to East Hills Subaru and purchased a brand new car one week later, where the staff was friendly knowledgeable, and had plenty of time and patience to inform me on the car that was best for my family and budget.

I purchased my car here 11 months ago and have had only negative experiences from the sales department and finance manager. To start, my salesman Jeff Barkin was not knowledgeable whatsoever about the model I purchased. I should have trusted my gut instinct at the time and spent my money elsewhere. Instead, I did purchase the car. 2 months ago I met with the finance manager, to cancel the extended warranty I had purchased since my intentions for obtaining the vehicle long term have changed. He was pushy and kept trying to convince me not to cancel the warranty. The policy is able to be cancelled yet he kept trying to convince me that I was making a foolish decision. He was rude and too persistent and kept wasting my time. When he finally gave up, he claimed to have cancelled the policy. I found out this week that he never submitted the paperwork and I have now been charged $3500 mistakenly. Attempts to speak with this finance manager or any manager at all have remained fruitless. Every time I call they are "busy" or "in a meeting." Messages are not returned and no attempt has been made by anyone at this dealership to fix this fiasco. I finally contacted corporate Subaru to record my grievance and let them know how this dealership conducts business and treats its customers. Once the sales department sold me the car and made their money they stopped offering any customer service to me whatsoever. Subaru is helping with my case and confirmed that there are many other complaints in progress currently. Take my advice and avoid Competition Subaru altogether. They still owe me $3500 today and should be ashamed of how they treat customer.

I used to like this dealer. I bought one of my cars and a Subaru warranty from them , but when it came to repairs they wouldn't cover anything and the service manager Vince was really rude none compliant, would never call back unless they needed more money. They kept adding extra things to my bill after they opened up my whole car and giving me an invoice. After having it there for months I got my car back and then started hearing noises that weren't there when I first brought the car in. Totally unsatisfied. Unless you're in the area and NEED a simple oil change I would never go back there again.

We left a *refundable* deposit on a car and later decided we did not want to purchase from Competition Subaru. They claimed that a specific car was not available ANYWHERE on the east coast. The next day, we purchased that exact car about 10 miles away. We have contacted Phil 4x for a refund and each time, he fabricates an awful lie. We have filed a claim with our bank. Stay away! Poor customer service.

I purchased a used 2014 Subaru legacy 2.5i sport in august of 2015. The sales person suggested I have the car certified, and i chose to do so. When checking the tire pressure on my regular gas fill up i noted that the insides of both front tires were worn down completely. I scheduled a service for an oil change, to have my tires addressed, and to have the passenger headlight looked at because it points far right and lights up the side of the road, not in front of me. When I brought the car in, the gentleman at the front didn't have any information on my car or that I even had a 8:30 appointment, he took down the cars info and my concerns and said he would call me when he found something. I waited all day until 4:30 and decided to give them a call, I was told the car was on the lift and they would get back to me. Around 5pm i received a call saying I was all set to go, my oil change was done and I was right the tires are wearing unevenly in the front. I asked what the reasoning was for the uneven wear and the gentleman told me it that my alignment was a little off. I asked if the alignment was checked upon certification of the car 4 thousand miles ago and he informed me it was. I then asked if the tires were safe for me to drive on with my two year old son in the car and I was told "the tires need to be replaced and we suggest you do it much sooner rather than later" I then asked if I could have a print out of the alignment they did so I could see how far off it was, and when I go get an alignment I can make sure its correct. I was then told that they DO NOT have a machine for that in the dealership shop, and it was just EYEBALLED. So upon certification of the car, there was never an alignment done, it was eyeballed. The gentleman whom called me suggested I speak to the used car sales manager to see if "there is anything they want to do about it" I asked if the manager is there and if he could transfer me to him. I was told the manager Phil was busy with another customer and would call me back. Instead of Phil calling me back he had the same gentleman call me and tell me "tires are a wear item and there is nothing we can do about it" At this point I realized the headlights weren't even addressed, but I didn't even care because of how disgusted I was with the service, and lies. There is absolutely no reason why at my first oil change with the vehicle and only four thousand miles put on this "certified car" that I should be having to replace two tires. The used sales manager Phil and the Service manager Vince would not speak to me. I was told my car was ready to be picked up nearly 9 hours after my scheduled appointment, and nothing was done for me besides what i already knew and an oil change.

I purchased my second vehicle with Jeff and I would not go to anyone else. I communicated both by email and person and he never pressured me or made me feel I had to close a deal. Both him and his supporting staff at Competition Subaru are truly professional and "get it." Truly awful customer service. I've been to this dealership twice; I went once to test drive, and a second time because I was interested in making a purchase. The first time I visited the dealership, I went for 2 test drives with Jeff Barkan, who was extremely unfriendly and could not have been less interested in making a sale to me. He did not provide me with any information about the cars I test drove, and he seemed completely annoyed to be dealing with me (I'm assuming this is because I'm in my early 20s and he assumed I have poor credit and/or a low income). The second time I visited the dealership, I spoke with a salesperson whose name I believe was Joe (he does not seem to be included on the dealership's website at this time), and he too acted like he did not want to waste his time speaking with me. Lisa Sessa, another sales employee, came over and explained that if I wasn't happy with the prices I was being shown, we simply would not do a deal.I eventually went to Dan Perkins Subaru in Milford, CT and purchased a 2016 Subaru Forester 2.5i Touring with more options for a better price than Competition Subaru of Smithtown was offering me, and all of the employees I dealt with at Dan Perkins were completely helpful and friendly.I would recommend Dan Perkins Subaru over Competition Subaru to anyone considering purchasing a Subaru, new or used.

When researching new cars my wife wanted something that sat higher than her 2003 Bonneville. she wanted all the extras which made some of the cars out of sight with prices. When we saw the Outback it was just the right size and loaded it was within reach. We found that Costco offered a $200 above invoice deal if you bought through their participating dealer. Jeff at competition Subaru was great he went thru all the options and we test drove a 4 cyl model--it was so quick we didn't even consider the 6cyl model . It took awhile to get the Outback we ordered but it was well worth the wait. Just last week we were parking at an event that was on the grass and my wife said we won't get stuck will we? I purchased a car from this dealership. The sales dept. is okay, nothing special. The service dept. is truly terrible. Honestly it's a complete nightmare.The techs and service managers are dishonest. There is no customer service when you actually need it. They do horrible work. They may damage your vehicle and deny it. You'll sit there for hours. Please do not take your car here for service. If you choose to buy a car at this dealership then service it somewhere else. Not even an oil change. I'm sincerely trying to warn you.

Jeff Barkan contacted me towards the end of my lease. I have very specific tastes in cars and Jeff was respectful of that, unlike sales reps at other dealers who always tell me no one likes a manual transmission. He had the car I wanted to test drive, a 2015 Forester, ready when I arrived at Competition Subaru. He fully explained the features. And he made it possible for me to drive my new car off the lot. I don't know how he did it. I arrived around three PM, relatively late in the day. But Jeff contacted my insurance agent, got the car registered, prepped and in my hands. He also made it possible for me to put nothing down, paid my first payment for me and lowered my payment! I love my new Subaru and can't thank Jeff enough for making it all happen in such a short time.

Dissatisfied with service received- Car was brought in for leak in moon roof- work done was misrepresented. Service manager resolved the issue and was very apologetic and referred to the incident as a error in communication. The money for the repair was refunded and I was also sent a coupon for a free oil change ( which will never be used since I will not be returning to Competition Subaru).

Upon walking into Competition Subaru, I was greeted warmly and treated kindly. I was referred to them by a friend who had a fantastic experience. There was an office celebration going on for a charity that the company donates to and every passing employee offered us food and invited us to join in as we waited on paperwork. The process itself was quick and practically seamless considering I wanted to drive my car off the lot that day. Jeff was very honest, up-front, not pushy and personable - the complete opposite of the cliche car salesman. Even after I had signed and everything was paid for, Jeff took the time to take me through all of the features of my new Forester. So I dealt with so called Jeff and he basically had no loyalty towards his costumer I applied for a credit check towards a new wrx and sat with them for an hour and a half tool they closed and he said he will call me 1st thing in the morning with a reply but guess what the text day they got the reply saying I needed a cosigner and of course since he can't benefit from me he didn't bother calling me to tell me i got denied and I had to run after him all day to get a reply and after I get h him on the phone he hangs up in my face this guy can't call him a man is a disgrace to sales and represents every wrong in the sales department. Guess what I got the cosigner and that dealer last my business because of this degenerate..

We just bought our first Subaru. The experience at Competition was great. They were not pushy and were always available to answer questions. I was working with them and 5 other dealerships via email and calls and no one came close to the service or price they offered. We went multiple times to test drive and were really torn between the outback and the forester. They were patient and answered every question we had about payments, additional options, and packages. With past purchases I always felt that once you step in they try everything to not let you leave till you buy something. Thats why I do so much email and phone calling but at Completion we felt free to leave at anytime.. and we didmany times because we were not sure which car and package we wanted. It took two weeks before we finally decided on the Forester and we love it. Had three snow storms since we bought it and its unbelievable in the snow (just like everyone said it would be). Our sales person was Dan Mcavoy and he was great. Really worked with us to get exactly what we wanted. Lisa Sessa helped finalize everything with no pressure. Would recommend them to anyone.

He's knowledgeable, experienced, he knows his product, he's easy to work with, and he's very professional. When I make a major purchase such as a car, I do a ton of background research before I walk into the dealership, and I consider myself to be prepared, especially when it comes to getting a fair price. Jeff went over available trim styles and options, answered all our questions and provided information about the car that we needed to know. Perhaps most importantly, when it came to the final price, he gave us a number that he invited us to take anywhere to compare with other dealerships and he assured us his price would withstand any other challenges. After getting his price, in writing, and subsequently calling no less than 4 other area dealers and "building" my own car and comparing prices on websites including Edmunds, TruCar, KBB, and Thecarconnection, I was very pleased to find out that I got a great price from Jeff. There was no need to negotiate or haggle- he gave me a great price from the very start, and he knew it. There was never any pressure to close the deal. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Jeff Barkin. He completely changed my mind about the expectations I had in the past about car dealers. He has a heart of gold and is one of these human beings that you know is incredibly genuine. I think in his next life, he will be a psychologist or another kind of caretaker because he truly cares about people! I came to Jeff after having a terrible experience at Donaldson's Suburu (anyone going to that dealership, please beware). I walked into Competition Suburu feeling a bit mistrustful after the way I had been treated at Donaldsons. In about two minutes, I could tell that Jeff was trustworthy and there to help. He quoted me a much lower price than the other dealership and answered all of my questions (and I had many!) with the patience of a saint. I happily ordered a brand new 2015 Suburu Imprezza that should be coming in very soon (yay!). But the story does not end there. I drove to the dealership in an old 2004 Mercedes. The brakes were worn away to practically nothing (something Mercedes failed to tell me), and Jeff refused to let me drive off without making me promise that I would let him work out a deal with the service department to fix my brakes for an extremely affordable rate. He made my safety a priority. Other dealers make you feel like a number.....Jeff makes you feel like you matter. The very next day, he had an appointment set up for me to get my car fixed and Jeff drove me to Enterprise to make sure that I was able to get a rental car with no glitches. Competition would not give me a loaner car since I did not already own a Suburu prior to my purchase, but Jeff went out of his way to make sure that I was able to get a rental from an outside company (Enterprise). Even though ideally, it would have been easier to get a loaner car from Suburu, Jeff made the situation go extremely smoothly. Jeff Barkin truly is a gem. I plan on working with him for many years to come and I already started telling everyone I know that if they need a Suburu.....Jeff is their guy!

I reached out to Competition Subaru initially via email, gathering competitive prices from both local and out-of-town Subaru dealerships. Competition hooked me up over the phone with Jeff Barkan and that was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Jeff and I hit it off immediately over the phone and I was immediately comfortable dealing with an individual whom I had never met to purchase such a big-ticket item. We settled on a price over the phone, add-on accessories and Jeff even said he would take in my off-lease Buick Regal even though Competition is not a Buick Dealer. The convenience of the transaction mirrored my confidence in dealing with Jeff. On delivery date, the car was pristine and Jeff, although busy with other customers, made sure that I was comfortable to drive away in my new Subaru. He even explained the NYS Lemon Law to me! Now what car salesman who you know does a thing like that? Jeff is obviously confident in the Subaru product and in the service dept. of his dealership. Plus, Jeff knows the Forester inside and out and can answer any question about the car be it technical or aesthetic. All in all this was the easiest, pain-free automobile purchase I have ever transacted and I have now done 11 of these. My sale was challenging because I wanted to wait for the new model to be ready for sale. It was the 2015 Outback. My 2011 Outback lease was up and Jeff helped me through extending the lease. He kept me informed during the whole process. He even called a week after I got the car to see how much I love it.Subarus are great cars, you can't beat them for safety in the snow. You can't get stuck. I take mine out in the worst of snow storms to test them and I always get back safely. I will only drive Subarus especially after last winter and I will always use Jeff Barkan for my purchases. I recommend him highly.

We ordered a car from the factory. When we took delivery, due to a problem with their gas pump, we only received a half tank of gas. When we noted this, Jeff and the service manager Eric were genuinely contrite. Eric gave us a chit for a full tank of gas at our next visit, and also offered a complementary oil change kit. A week later, we got a follow up call to see if all was ok, and if we needed anything. We have has so many negative dealer experiences in the past, it was refreshing to finally experience a professionally run dealership, with truthful and sincere people.

Jeff Barkan is the man you want to see if you are looking for a Subaru. He is very knowledgeable about all of the models. There is no pressure when you are dealing with Jeff. He simply talks to you to find out everything he can about your needs and gently guides you. I don't know of anyone that looks forward to the experience of shopping for a new car. The pressure, the anxiety of not knowing whether the price you got is a good one. With Jeff, there is no pressure. It is like having a conversation with a friend. And, there was absolutely no doubt that we got a great price! He took his time with us, showing us the different models, colors, and features. When it was time to pick up the car, he spent at least an hour showing me the features and operation of the car. He even synced my phone for me! Within a week, I got a phone call asking if I had any questions about the car and how I liked it. Jeff has earned my loyalty and respect. We visited many dealers (Honda of Huntington, Honda of Smithtown, Ford, Kia, etc.) and experienced everything from sales associates who didn't know much about the cars they were selling and some (Honda of Smithtown, in particular) who even insulted other (Honda) dealers, who were obviously leasing and/or selling the very same vehicle! What kind of "logic" is involved in THAT kind of enterprise, eh? Ford and Kia (for the most part) were what we expected: competent dealers with friendly associates!None of the bad things mentioned above happened at "Competition Subaru of Smithtown!" There, we received competent---no, extremely knowledgeable and friendly!--- assistance in leasing a new vehicle! Our experience at "Competition Subaru" was--by far!---the best experience we EVER had buying (or leasing) a new vehicle!Over several decades (let us not reveal too much of our "decrepit-ness," eh?), we bought new cars, never once considering to lease a vehicle. Well, the sales associate (Jeff Barkan) explained everything to us in simple English and treated us like human beings, not "car-hungry customers with deep pockets."It was very clear to us that "Competition Subaru" was light-years ahead of the others....as Jeff drove out in a brand new Subaru to help us get to the dealership to pick up our new Subaru, as friends and relatives weren't available on such short notice to help us get there and drive home happy as two kids with ice cream cones and no homework! I worked with Jeff Barkan for the first time when I bought my beautiful 2010 Subaru Forester 4 years ago. I had purchased two cars from other dealerships previously and I was ready for a headache. I couldn't have been more wrong! Jeff was so easy to work with and his knowledge of the car, as well as the entire process, was unsurpassed. He answered ALL of my questions and explained everything. The only surprise in the entire process was how quickly he located the exact car I wanted in the exact color! He went out of his way to find it and get it to me from Connecticut! I needed to assist my daughter with a new auto purchase when her car was rear ended and totaled. Being the good father, I decided to front run the deal and get the best price for her. Jeff was not pushy, listened to my needs and made some excellent safety suggestions with the Subaru EyeSight option that really caught my attention. After deciding on a selection and realizing the car we needed was not locally available, Jeff proceeded to go above and beyond by finding a car in another state and having it transported here at no additional charge. Jeff was never pushy, made thoughtful suggestions and let the deal close itself. When the car was delivered on a day we could only arrive late, Jeff stayed after hours and took lots of time with my daughter to familiarize her with every aspect of her new car. He also gave me lots of credit for putting the deal together that was actually his work.If I ever need another Subaru or know someone who does I would be honored to recommend Jeff to them.

We purchased a brand new 2013 Subaru BRZ for my wife last year at Competion Subaru. Erik Tops took care all the things for us, from ordering the car to giving us the key. Since the options we want for the BRZ was not in stock, he ordered a car exactly how we want it. We already know Erik back then since he was still in Dodge-Jeep dealership in Medford, so when we saw him at Subaru the day we are looking for a new car we didn't hesitate to make a deal with him because we know we are with a professional and honest guy. My wife and I really love our BRZ, that little car is always fun to drive. We walked into the dealership looking to purchase a new vehicle. We saw a pre owned vehicle on the lot and were advised not to purchase. When we said we would wanted to see a new one, they didn't have one on the lot and started to encourage us to purchase the preowned vehicle. We put a deposit down were rushed to purchase the vehicle right away so we decided not to purchase the vehicle because we were unhappy with their pushy sales techniques. It has been 2 weeks since we decided not to purchase the car and request the return of our deposit. Only today, was I finally able to get a hold I the salesman who never called back to confirm. We won't be getting out deposit back until the end of the week. Quick to push us to purchase slow to refund our money. Very unhappy.

The car - forester limited 2014 had a small glitch (the rear gate would not open) and when I took the car to the dealership they fixed it though I didn't have an appointment. You can't ask for more. My wife and I purchased an outback from Competition in October after working with Jeff Barkan. He was up front and honest without being at all pushy. Once we made a decision on our vehicle, he worked hard to find it from another dealer so that we didn't need to order it, saving us three months of waiting. We originally were under contract with Grand Prix Subaru, but when it came time to pick up the car, we found they were trying to sell us a model with a smaller engine for the big engine price. I was interested in a Legacy LTD w/nav and sunroof I had seen on their website. I went in, test drove the car and after considerable conversation, I was assured that all the 'issues' the car had would be corrected. I returned the next day to make the deal and thankfully the sun was hitting the car just right and I saw the bodywork that had been done. Turns out the car had been in TWO accidents (magnitude unknown). When I communicated my findings they acted like it was the first knew of the damage. The car however had been priced $2 to $3 g's less than any other car and was a top-o-the line car. I had been told the car was certified, it wasn't. The salesman (or the manager) has not called me back since...great way to do business. Guess if you don't ask, they have no intention of telling. Good luck if you decide to use this dealership, I can only imagine how the service department is run...can you say unnecessary repairs???

After a lot of research on suvs and many different dealerships later stopped in to competition subaru. Jessica was who I dealt with and after i told her what i wanted she brought a forester up and showed me. She knew i didn't have much time so she worked quickly to get me a price and didn't play any games.James was very good at getting a lower price and a good apr. Only issue I have is that the all weather mats are missing and haven't been contacted back if they have them in stock. Also would have been nice if i recieved a little thank you gift like the to go coffee mug i got when i leased my vw...It's the little things that help.

Friendly staff, felt right at home! The facilities are not impressive but Competition Subaru professional Staff exceeded our expectations and that's what really matters after all. Used the Costco savings auto program, not only you save on the car but also get 15% on future service and accessories purchases. Never felt pushed to purchase extra service or accessories. My new 2014 Outback was delivered last week, very soon after my salesman, Jeff Barkan, and I worked out the options. Mr, Barkan was extremely helpful, friendly, and efficient in leading me to the final order. He phoned me today to make sure I was happy with the new car that I picked up last week. This is not surprising to me, because he was the same way three years ago when I ordered my 2011 Outback. At that time I ordered a color that displeased my wife on delivery day. When we discussed our dislike of the color with Jeff and Vinny, the manager, we were promptly offered another car with the color of our choice without extra cost or penalty, although the original car had been customized.After such personal care in 2010, why would we go elsewhere? We subsequently referred a friend to Jeff Barkan--and he was very pleased as well with his purchase.Other members of the team at Competition Subaru that we have dealt with, David Leonard and Jackie Scurry, also help to provide an experience without stress. I was in the market for a late model Subaru Forester. My BMW was totaled in a rain storm, the rental was due back, and I needed to find something quickly. I dealt with both Jeff and Dave over the course of a 2 week period in trying to locate a 2014 Forester with the touring trim. It was a refreshing change dealing with these gentlemen as opposed to past experiences with arrogant/agressive sales personnel and dealerships that try to add unwanted services and fees at signing. The availability of the vehicle proved to be a problem as the Forester was both a Consumer Reports top pick and also received the IIHS top rating in all it's crash tests: the current "in" vehicle that everyone wants. The only one Jeff could find had a $2400 option that I didn't want. After 2 weeks of nothing being available that met my specifications, I returned to this dealer hoping something had come in. Because of time limitations I needed a car and had to make a decision.Jeff was out sick so I was introduced to Dave to try and get something done. They had just got in a turbo touring Forester which I took for a test drive. Dave made a great offer - $200 below dealer invoice that included a Costco membership rebate. The philosophy of this dealer from the get-go as initially explained to me by Jeff is: move vehicles through agressive pricing with no gimmicks or add-ons and Dave certainly lived up to that. There was never any pressure to buy extended warranties or finance with the dealer nor bogus dealer prep charges. In the end I couldn't make the deal. As I explained to both: this is the last vehicle I (hopefully) will ever buy and therefore wanted the vehicle that best met my specifications. I couldn't justify spending 32k plus for an suv that lacked the interior amenities I wanted - was not as big in the interior that I thought - and lastly was a color I really disliked (Black in and out). Both these gentlemen were professional and knowledgeable in their demeanor.I felt very comfortable in working with them to get the car I wanted and I felt they wished the same. I truly feel they dealt with me with honesty and integrity. I stopped in without an appointment and wanted to test drive some of the Subarus I had heard a lot about. When I had visited other dealers, I had been told to make an appointment for another day, etc. But here, the salesperson was very amendable to letting me test the cars I was interested in and helped me consider some options which might have worked even better than what I had originally intended. I never write reviews, and while I did not end up buying a car that day, I had to write a review to counter what seem to be negative reviews for this dealer. I had a great experience and came away impressed.

Just picked up a BRZ last week from Jeff. He was great, this is the second car my family has gotten from him, and I don't think we need another car salesman in our lives. He was very responsive, and got me exactly the car I wanted and at the price I could afford. Wonderful to deal with, and a painless process overall. Jeff is very personable and easy to deal with, I am proud to call him my friend. I think its rare that you can consider a car salesman a friend and I sincerely value that.

We worked with Jeff when we went to buy a new Subaru. He was very personable and knowledge, without being overly pushy. He made us feel very comfortable as we discussed options and test-drove a few cars. He also helped us to buy and drive out with our car in less than 2 days after first coming into the dealership, working after hours to ensure we were able to do this since we needed the car immediately. Aside from giving me the best deal by far of the 3 Subaru dealers I contacted, Jessica Sanchez was totally honest and up front with me the entire way, something I truly appreciated. The price she gave me over the phone was the price we signed the deal at. No hidden extras. When I realized at the end of negotiations in person that one minor item I had expected to be included among my options was not included, Jessica went to her manager to see if we could include the add-on at no increase in price. The manager agreed and I signed the 3 year lease.

My new car experience with Competition was top notch! I am a previous buyer from the competition group and I have to say, their Subaru dealership outdoes their BMW dealership tenfold. My wife and I have a 2 month old , so getting in an out easily was important. We also didn't want to rush things or end up with something we didn't want at a price we didn't want to pay. We got there 1 hour before closing and left with signed bill of sale within 45 minutes. All the new car salespersons were occupied and Ralph, a normal used car salesman, was more than happy to help us out until one was free. He was no nonsense, friendly and respectful to the needs of my wife and daughter since the car was for her. He was so good, we asked if could just deal with him and we did. He did the sale, and another great salesperson, Cathy covered the delivery. Ralph gave me a good deal on our trade-in and walked us through the pricing. We got a good deal and were in and out. My wife and I spent 3x that time in BMW the previous year and got half of the service and savings.Cathy was excellent for the delivery. She explains everything with ease, knows her stuff in and out and is extremely friendly. She too understood our situation having a newborn and we were in and out on delivery day in 30 minutes. We visited several Subaru dealerships on LI before heading to Subaru. They are hands down the best!

Purchased 2007 Mercedes E350 for $19K. Salesmen stated repairs would be made prior to our pick-up. We drove 2 hours and had to wait over 4 hours for the repairs to be completed (the car was not even cleaned). Upon our arrival we found that the heated seat did not work and was told that they would not fix it. We were told that they performed an oil change and replaced defective tires. After our mechanic looked the car over he found that 1 tire was defective and is a major safety issue. The oil filter was never changed but the oil was? There is also a major oil leak. After numerous emails we have not received any feedback as to wether they woiuld cover the needed repairs. By law the safety repair must be made and as buyers we would expect that a $19,000 car would not leak oil! Still awaiting a response..

This dealership is great. Definitely go see either Dave or Jeff. They are very friendly and very helpful. They let me and my wife spend like 6 hrs at the dealership test driving multiple cars until we found the one we wanted. And they just kept saying that we can't settle and to get the car we love. They put absolutely NO pressure on us. By the time we found the car we wanted and discussed a price, color, and options, it was about an hr and a half past the dealers closing time. And they never said anything about it or tried to rush us at all.

Since I dealt with Cathy at another Subaru Dealer on Long Island years ago, Cathy has kept in touch by writing me from time to time. Since my experience with Cathy was so positive the first time I purchased a Subaru, I decided to go to the dealership she is currently at now, Competition Subaru. I was very pleased to see that Cathy's level of customer service and satisfaction are always at the top level. No nonsense, no haggle, and even when I did do a bit of haggling myself, she was quick to work with my budget. Cathy is very professional, but also has a good sense of humor. I would highly recommend Cathy. Even though my request for the Outback Limited in the color I wanted was not on the lot, Cathy located the car I was looking for in a matter of days. She made turning in my leased Subaru a breeze when I was ready to finalize the deal. A pleasure instead of dreading dealing with the typical banter when going to purchase a new car.

I recently purchased my 2012 Forester from Cathy at this dealership and had a great experience. We met a couple of times to discuss my needs (I was turning in a leased vehicle); what I was looking for in a new one and what I was looking for as far as price was concerned. Once all the decisions were made, they did a search for the vehicle I wanted and the deal was completed.I received a number of follow-up calls to make sure I was happy and the car was as expected. Once I got the car home, a friend stopped by, fell in love with it and I recommended he talk to Cathy about purchasing one himself.As far as the dealership in general is concerned, I was referred there by another friend who did a lot of research and found they had the best prices on Long Island.I will certainly be back when my lease expires.

I was referred to this dealer by a friend and almost did not use them because the dealership is a solid hour from my house and there is a Subaru dealership 3 minutes in my town. Not using them would have been a huge mistake. Every person I worked with gave my husband and I first class treatment and you can tell that service comes from the ownership down. I will continue to use any dealership under the owners umbrella and can say without a doubt the drive is worth it 10 foldYou would be. Ray not to use this dealer

My husband and I just purchased a new Outback and we couldn't be happier with the car as well as our experience dealing with everyone at Competition Subaru.Vinny, James and David were extremely helpful in the process. We told them exactly what we wanted and they came back to us with an excellent price - NO haggling necessary. In addition, we were turning in a Forester lease and they also made that process extremely simple. They dealt with the bank for us and called our insurance to get the new car insured. All we had to do was go sign and pick up the car when were ready. It was the easiest car purchase we have ever made! They were also very patient while I asked them a million questions about our lease vs. buy options. The day of the pick-up we got stuck in traffic due to very bad weather and did not get to Competition Subaru until about 7:30pm (1.5 hours past our appointment). David was there waiting for us patiently. It was late and he was the last person there, but he did not try to hurry through things. Instead, he took his time to make sure everything was in order and took extra time to go over all the features our new Outback has. He was extremely personable and it was a real pleasure dealing with and getting to know him. I cannot say enough good things about this group of people: they clearly work together as a team and care that their customers leave there feeling happy and comfortable with their new car.

I had a 2009 Toyota Camry that I was going to just trade in for a new one and decided to stop at Competition Subaru because I liked the look of the new Legacy. I reviewed what Legacy's they had on the lot and saw one that I really liked. The salesman that I consulted was very knowledgeable of the product and educated me on the benefits of Subaru. I thought I would have to do plenty of negotiating to keep my cost the same in that the Legacy I chose had more options then the Camry but my salesman quoted me a price that I could not refuse, it was a good amount lower what I was currently paying for my Camry. I have had my Legacy for 8 months and bring it to Competition Subaru for service and remain extremely satisfied. I would recommend them!

Went looking for a 2011 legacy 2.5LTD. Staff was very friendly at first. When I called to negotiate a deal with Jeff, I was told it was his day off so Vinnie was assigned to help me. We negotiated a fair price and I asked that he fax me documents containing the offer so I could then leave a deposite. After four hours and multiple phones nothing was faxed. First I was told that he forgot about it. Then he was to busy. Finally I was told that I had to call back the next day so that Jeff the original salesmen could do it. Well I knew what that meant. The next day when I called, the Jeff had no knowledge of the deal and Vinnie mysteriously forgot about the terms of the agreement. Then the sales manager James came back to me with a number that was supposedly 300 below invoice. The kicker is that first number that Jeff gave me when i went into the dealership was lower and it was supposedly 200 below invoice. Did they not think I took notes? This is why people hate car salesmen. In the end using a free internet service I was able to get a 2012 legacy 2.5LTD for the price I wanted.

I have purchased a few new cars before my 2011 Outback. I have to say their sales Dept. was competitively priced but there service dept. is too small. You have to make apt's for everything even a oil change and when you do, they never stick to the time frame they tell you. It takes them almost 2 hours just for a oil change. The last two times I went I had to wait 2 hours and then they try to up sell you extra service that is not listed in the manual. I definitely will buy my next Subaru else where.

I bought my car at the same dealer, which was a pleasant experience. Dave was a great guy. I wish I could say the same for the service department.I went to the service department for an inspection. I called early in the week to set an appointment for Saturday, 9am. he said it would take less than an hour. I went in at 8:50 to drop off my car, and all the bays were full and many more people were ahead of me. What is the point in setting appointments if you take everyone who drops off their car the previous night first? I had a 2010 car, so I only needed a safety inspection, literally takes 10 min. I also asked them to check an air leak in one of my windows, very evident above 60 mph. It was 12:50, and still no call, so I went in, and he said you are the next one in. Another 40 min, and he calls to say it is ready and said he could not duplicate the air leak. He said he went 65 mph, but checking the mileage, he only drove 5 miles and the dealership is in a highly congested area. There is no way they took it over 65 mph. I called him out on it, and he said he drives it around the side streets. 65 mph on the side streets. It took 5 hours to do a 10 min safety inspection.My conclusion, they were not making any money on my service, since I declined for the 15,000 mile service, I am sorry, I am not spending 100's of dollars for them to lube my chasis (no moving parts) or oil my door hinges, and so they put my order at the bottom of the pile. he also said he washed my car, but never did.Stay clear of this dealer, I will be gladly be going to STS for my car repair needs.

I bought a used 4runner from this dealer. It had a serious steering problem that showed up on the highway. I called the salesperson to get it fixed. I took it in and told them it happens at 55mph+. They said they would fix it. When I came back they stated they rotated the tires and it was fixed. They did NOT drive it on a highway. I insisted on it so they made me drive with a service tech. The service the refused to drive it fast enough or go on a highway. We drove back to the dealer and he pronounced it safe.Driving back to work later that day I encountered the problem again. When I called the sales guy he told me "I don't give a F*^*k". I asked to return the car and pay a restocking fee. They refused and they refused to even test it correctly.I sold the car at a loss and they did not refund the money. DO not do business with these people.

My husband and I spend the month of January looking for an honest Subaru dealer to purchase our new Forester. We did our homework, looked at all review for long Island Subaru dealers near us, read all we can on scam techniques to watch out for, read all of Consumer Reports articles, checked out invoices, Kelly BB, Edmonds and pretty much everything possible. We were completely turned off by the first 3 dealers we went to. They each tried to use a few of the scam techniques weve read about. Completely turned off and ready to throw in the towel, I ran into a review about Competition Subaru at St. James Long Island. I was a bit hesitant because not only was it 1 hours away from our home but there was only one reviewer. Ahhh, but what an interesting review this was it told about two of the previous dealers that we had gone to and the dishonesty there was, exactly as we experienced it first-hand. At the end of the review the gentleman goes on to say what a pleasure it was for him to do business with Competition Subaru, a new dealership. We decided to take the ride to St James and met with our salesman Damon, first honest salesman Ive ever met!! What an amazingly fast transaction this was. We did haggle the price and with no unnecessary added fees and no tricks or greed, we were at a very fair price in about 15 minutes of us being there. Picked up our new car 2 days later and made a couple of new friends while there.
