Bought a vehicle based on Gateways description and pictures 2 weeks ago. I live 1100 miles away, so I was trusting their word. What a big mistake!Vehicle was listed as a "fresh restoration in May 2016". The salesman(Brad at the Tampa branch)assured me this car was in great "show" condition. On arrival, the vehicle barely started, had no turn signal lights, instrument cluster lights, console lights, reverse lights,or functioning horn. Fuse box is completely rusted out. Their description said it had a Holley 850 CFM carburetor, but it a 670 CFM, and it's shot. Transmission, power steering , and radiator all leaking. They attempted to plug up the leaks with gasket sealant. Some linkage under the vehicle was held together with a wire and bent nail. Both exhaust brackets broken. AC and heat had been ripped out of the vehicle. Emergency braking system completely removed. Rear leaf spring broken. Windshield washer system also completely removed. And the engine has a knocking noise. My mechanic gave me an estimate of nearly $7000 dollares to bring this vehicle just up to specs. I forwarded the estimate to Gateway per their request. 2 days later, they called me back and said their is nothing they could do for me. That I signed a sales contract, so I'm just xxxx out of luck. They say it's not their fault the previous owner told Gateway inaccurate information regarding this car. By the way, the previous owner was the car "restorer". And i use this word extremely loosely. I purchased this vehicle for almost $30,000. I didn't purchase a project car. I'm so disgusted with this company and customer relations. And based on other complaints on this website about them, this seems to be a common practice for them. I really hope people who read this shop somewhere else, and pass the word on to friends and family. Gateway Classic Cars is a SHADY, CROOKED , company!!!

I bought a car from Gateway Classics recently, and flew in from out of town to do so. I had looked up the nearest branch of my bank, which appeared to be just 7 minutes away. Once we had agreed on a price, I was prepared to go to the bank to get the funds to pay for the car - only to find out the bank I needed was over 45 minutes away! Nic Thom from the dealer drove me to and from the bank in his own personal car, and we closed the deal. I drove the car home that night!

This was my first time buying a classic car so I was admittedly skeptical. I looked at their video of the car and thought I must have been missing something . I talked to Brian at Gateway and it sounded too good to be true. But this was my dream car so worst case scenario, I get the car there is damage to an area I missed or something that I didn't think of and no worries I invest in the repairs and still get my dream car at a good price. Price was VERY generous to me, so that was solidifying my idea that I missed something. Until. The 1967 Impala rolled off the enclosed flatbed. The video made it look beautiful but seeing the car in front of me, it was like looking at a genuine Van Gogh in front of me. I couldn't believe it. It looked immaculate, nothing wrong with it. Nada. So, obviously it wouldn't start or something right? Nope. I've been driving it with zero problems for over 2 weeks now. It wasn't as described by Gateway. No, it was WAY WAY better than described. They understated how great it was. And I feel like I'm understating how great Brian and the people at Gateway Classic Cars are.To summarize. The 1967 Chevrolet Impala is, has been, and always will be my dream car. Brian and all the people at Gateway Classic Cars literally helped me realize my dream. They were also the nicest people you could ask for. Very considerate, very willing to work with me, and very fast on their response time. The essence of professionalism. I've recommended them to everyone I know. I'm recommending them to you. You can tell that they not only car about classic cars but that they care about the people buying them. They will treat you right. They will help you realize your dream.

I recently purchased a car from them. They were very attentive and responsive until the deal was done then they don't remember who you are afterwards. I bent over backwards to get them the payoff check and paperwork next day but when I had questions after the car was delivered they weren't interested in responding. In fact, they completely dismissed one of my questions. They claimed they looked into it but never confirmed anything. Very unprofessional salespeople. Just want the quick sale then they move onto the next person. I won't ever buy from them again! All others beware!

I am in another state far west of Chicago and wanted additional information and pics of the car before I invested in a qualified inspector to go on site and final assess the cars condition. Nic was very professional and responsive to my multiple requests for additional information and pictures that I requested. Nic never made an attempt to hide, or inaccurately spin, any of the extra provided information or pictures. I did not feel I was being misled in any way, nor did I feel pressured at any time. I understand that Brian and Todd were providing support also. Thanks to all involved, special thanks to Nic.

I called in regards to a truck for 14k I was gonna buy for my wife. Spoke with a nic Thom, very nice, very professional. I was about to pull the trigger on the sale when I decided to do a google search for reviews. 4/5 stars seemed to be common which is good ! I however like to read the bad reviews and noticed that only the good reviews were from people who went there and bought the car off the lot, the bad reviews were ALL from outside buyers who live far ! Coincidently, I looked up this truck again to stare at its beauty which I've been doing all morning, suddenly the price was now 15595.... $1595 dollars higher!? I've been eye balling this truck for easily a month. I called nic who swore to me it's "always been that price" but stated he did update it today but never changed the price ...... i knew he was lying and am trying to contact the owner directly. So if you do buy, go directly to them, otherwise if you live far like me, it's just not worth risking that much money. This is an honest review please heed everyone's warnings about the integrity issues here.

I just got a car from this place 2 months ago. They do tell stories for sure and my Guy was Todd. Funny the day after I paid for car he went on vacation and never spoke to me again.Be careful of the Videos and the pics they take. They use lighting that tends to hide half of the problems. If the car is real nice they take outside Video and pics. If it has problems they tend to do inside from what I have learned. The lights hit the cars way different inside. They never told me the car had rust on it. He said the pain was driver quality but of course did not mention the rust the car had hidden under the pain and coming threw the paint. Like many others on here they said the car was an AC car but the pump was in the trunk LOL The best thing I found out later of course is that Todd told me If i came to pick up the car I would have to Pay local sales taxes. He said if I had shipped it I would not have too. I asked if I could just pick up on my own trailer and he told me the same deal. Well I guess I new already that was shady but went with it and found out later they do not want you there. That is why they get the $1000 deposit that is no refundable. Be careful and go there to check out car first is what I can say. The car I got is not bad but at the rust issues. same time they did not tell me about most of the things wrong with it including all

Let me begin by saying that I am 80 years old and thought I was done with collector cars, of which I have had several. I had a 68 Camaro new from a local dealer in 1968, but when I saw the one advertised in the Chicago Gateway Classic car site, I really wanted it, and blue is my favorite color.I dealt with Brian Mitchell mainly and I must say he did an amazing job from start to finish, keeping me informed and sending all the information I needed for a wire transfer. The woman who wired the money for me said the information that Brian supplied was the best she had ever seen to send a wire transfer. The transporter Brian chose for me was excellent, picking up the car a day before they said it would be picked up and delivered in two days. Amazing!Gordo from NJ

I have to be honest, it's my own fault as I purchased based on their pictures, their write up of the vehicle and anything the dealer stated to me over the phone. DO NOT purchase a car from these guys based on what you see online, read online, or what they say on the phone. GO SEE for yourself, or have an independent person represent you.I was dealing with streetside auto on a possible sale and they were straight forward and upfront about the vehicles they had so I guess that steered me into thinking that gateway would be the same. My big mistake! They advertised a vehicle as an A/C car and then the car arrives with the A/C not working with no idea what the problem is and it needs major diagnosis. Their response back was "it's an A/C "equipped" car". Also, they purposely take pictures and video that avoids little trouble spots....so beware. I know it's a 45 year old car.....(words they like to use) and I did expect little things here and there. But your tactics and disgraceful and you know it gateway. Sad, sad, sad.Go to Streetside before messing with these guys. That's my review.Oh yeah, they don't give two sh*%s about their BBB complaints. That's why they are not members.

I got a phone call that they wanted to buy my car. they saw pictures of it and gave them all my information on the car. I told them what i want for it and said they would give me around that price. when I got there, they took the car around and liked it. I still had the original tires from 1979 and they wanted new tires and and the breaks changed. I said okay but if I come back what would I get for it. THEY LOW BALLED THE S**T OF MY CAR. Not even close what they said over the phone. Waste of my time and my miles on my classic car. Don't sell or buy your car unless your stupid and rich.

I recently purchased a Porsche from Kenny Kahl at Gateway's Louisville location. Kenny answered all my questions honestly and quickly (including the ones after he had my check)! He recommended shippers, he took additional photos (in addition to the 60 plus online), he researched service records, the bottom line, Kenny was everything you could possibly ask for in a salesman. I have read some negative reviews at other locations and just can't believe the overall culture can be so different. I am sold on Gateway and hope to buy from Kenny again in the future.

Bought a car site unseen since it was a reputable dealer. When the car arrived it would not run to get it off of the transport. This car was misrepresented! It arrived with a bad engine and a bad clutch. It was literally a 3 that was represented as a 7. Do not buy from this dealer. If you do make sure you go look the car over very well. I ended up selling the car for half of what I bought it for to just get rid of it.Chris

Found the '58 Cadillac Fleetwood I always wanted from Gateway's YouTube video. Went into their Tinley Park, IL location to view the car personally. I was quicker than I perhaps should have been with my decision (emotions...) but still don't regret my purchase. This is a consignment showroom, so the cars belong to private sellers. I was fortunate that the previous owner of my car had a bunch of receipts for work done, but I still had my own inspection and appraisal performed. No nasty surprises. The salesman I worked with, Todd, was excellent throughout the process. Very accessible to answer questions, kept in touch from my first visit all the way to final pickup of the vehicle, and after. This showroom has 100+ cars for your viewing pleasure, and there was no pressure to buy. Very relaxed atmosphere.

I just purchased my first classic car from Tony Saif out of the Detroit showroom on July 9th. Being over a thousand miles away I trusted him when he told me the car was "numbers matching" and all it needed was a "registration in your state and you will be cruising this weekend". Should have gotten it independently inspected (my fault). First - the second the sale was complete he (Tony) went quiet on email replys. Second - I never received any payment confirmation once money was wired. They could have run off with everything. Received the title a full week and half later. When the car arrived I noticed right off the numbers did not match (not even close). First indicator was the transmission had a salvage sticker on it, the alternator was bad, the starter was bad, the battery was bad, the kickdown linkage was not functional, the horn didn't work, the back up lights didn't work, the blinker is intermittent, and there are no front turn signals, it has a bad oil leak, the lap belts are incorrect, and it is now clear this car was a amateur hour special that was pieced together and shined up. Even the bumpers I was told were new are not new (pitting). This is just what I found so far. On top of that the car cover I was told would be supplied from the previous owner doesn't even fit this car!!!. The build sheet I was told would be provided never was. I will never do business with these guys again. Snake oil salesman all the way. If I could get my money back it would.

I purchased a car from the Detroit showroom. Since I was making the deal 700 miles away I trusted that the salesman would would be honest with me. They have several showrooms across the country and I thought they had credibility. I asked the salesman if everything worked on the car, lights, Windows, engine leaks, etc and he replied yes. After having the car was trucked 700 miles many issues immediately surfaced....none of the windows rolled up, none of the interior light worked and I'm expecting other issues to surface and this purchase become a money pit. Lesson learned, never purchase a car without personally inspecting, shame on me. I have no recourse with Gateway since no warranty comes with their cars. If the salesman would of been honest with me and inspected the car as promised I could of made a better decision to buy or pass, however his sales pitch over the phone was the car was 100%.

The worst experience I have ever had buying a car. While the staff was friendly we purchased a blue 1966 mustang from the Houston showroom. After many promises them telling us how closly the cars are insepected before they sell them my husband for my 10 year anniversary tried to surprise me from Afghanistan with this car. It was supposed to be delivered on a thursday and when it didn't show up I called the dealership apparently they put my car on the wrong transportation vehicle and sent it to California rather than Mississippi. I had already paid the transport company for express shipping and no one from the dealership even though they knew of the error contacted the owners. I asked how my car could possible have made its way onto another transport vehicle with a different company they said it was late and the driver didn't speak good english, then refused to pay the difference in the expedited fees. Well my 10 year suprise was ruined. They put 100+ photos told us how great the car was the car was delivered 6 days late, they brought it to my work put it in a parking spot. no damage so I thought great at least it is here...well 5 pm I leave work and it left me stranded on the side of the road. I contacted Milton the sales rep at 5:15pm to tell him the car was not running. he said he would call the sellers and get back to me immediatly 2 days later no call. I had to have my new car put into the shop. It had major transmission, oil, and coolant leaks, the rear transmission seal was broken, carb gaskets were broken, the starter broke because how bad the leak was from the coolant, exhaust leakss, then they listed the car to have a working radio and power brakes. it has neither they have the original drum brakes $1000 to change over. we contacted the owners and rather than fix all their mistakes and this horrible experience we were told they are just a third party company and just posted on the website what the owners told them. So all that nonsense about they great inspection was clearly a lie. I am out another $1600 in reparis, its been 5 days its still in the shop undrivable. But the worst part about this is while my husband is in the desert for the 5th time defending his county his huge suprise for me for our 10 year anniversary was ruined and he can't even get any assistance. ITS A SHAME! they are nothing but scam artists.

Nic was very helpful in explaining how their organization worked as opposed to a regular car dealership as the cars aren't actually owned by Gateway they are selling them on consignment. I was able to get in to see the car on a Saturday. Nic was super laid back and accommodating and took his time to go over the car with me. We took a short test drive and I made my first offer to the owner of the car. It was lower than the client would take so I thanked him and went on my way. The following Monday I called Nic and asked if he thought the client would accept a slightly higher bid. He agreed to take my new offer back to his client. After a couple of back and forths the deal was struck over the phone. Nic sent me the paperwork to sign and I picked up the car the next Friday. It was also awesome to see some of the really classic cars at their Chicago location. Better than most auto shows!

We recently purchased a 1973 Z28 Camaro and had an excellent experience. We live in Green Bay, WI, so we weren't able to actually see the vehicle or test drive it before purchasing it. Cody was wonderful to work with. He sent us extra pictures and video so that we could really "see" the vehicle. Once we made the trip to Nashville to pick up the vehicle, there were not any surprises...Cody was up front and honest about the condition and features of the vehicle. If we are ever in the market for another Classic Car, we will definitely look to Cody and Gateway Classic Cars first!

I have been looking for a generation 3 Camaro for my wife for about 6 months. I found this one for sale in the Chicago showroom via their website. I made a call to the showroom on a Saturday and spoke with NIc to get more information and he was very helpful. After showing the car to my wife via the website, I called NIc back and placed a deposit on the car. We traveled to Chicago from the St. Louis area the following Monday to take a look at the car. Nic answered all of our questions honestly, showed us all aspects of the car, and pointed out the few flaws that he knew the the car had (a slight discoloration on one of the decals and a/c blowing cool not cold). We completed the paperwork and drove the car back to St. Louis. Nic was great to deal with. This is our second purchase from Gateway Classic Cars. Customers need to keep in mind that Gateway is a consignment operation and they can only pass on the information that they receive from the owner. Will definitely deal with Gateway Classic Cars in the future.

Buyer beware. I paid 20,000 for a corvette that was supposed to be in turn key condition. I asked the salesman (Trevor) if the AC blew cold point blank so there could be no confusion and he said yes. I was having the car shipped to Tampa area and relied on them to tell me the truth about the car. They shot a video of it running and driving as well as tons of photos however they didn't say that the car was barely running. The car was shipped to me and it barely ran, the AC was totally gone (compressor seals). The rear end was clunking and had to be replaced. It went from the delivery truck straight to the shop and is still there. The bill is over 6,000 now and it needed new brake master cylinder, ac, rear end and a plethora of other things. When I called and told them this and that they flat out lied about the cars condition all they could say was "you bought it as is". I did not expect this as I know they deal in a lot of classic cars and figured they would not blatantly lie about the cars condition. They conveniently left out a photo of the fiberglass door jam that is completely broken and will be a major expense to repair (not worth putting that much money into the car). This was a 77 vette, red, 383 stroker. Still can see their EBay posting. I will provide all receipts and documentation from my (very reputable classic car) mechanic if anyone is interested just email me at Chrisatclassictampabay.com or call me at 813-695-6754. Get an inspection because you can't believe a word these people say. They deliberately and blatantly lied to me about the obvious problems with the car.

This was the first experience I had with Gateway Classic Cars and it was a very good one. When I brought the car to the Chicago showroom I was impressed. First with Todd and his professionalism and the total layout. In the next few months we talked many times and Todd put a deal togeather with a buyer that worked for all of us. I also do not want to forget Nick he was very helpful the many times I called. If asked I would recomend GCC to my many car friends that may want to sell their cars.

I have been using Gateway Classic Cars to sell "unwanted" cars for me for over 4 years now. They just sold a third one for me in the dead of Winter. I brought the last one to them in the middle of January and I figured that it would be sitting there until Spring at the earliest. Picked up my check on Monday February 22nd. They are a professional group of people knowledgeable and passionate about the cars they sell.Jim Shepard

In 1972 I ordered my first Dodge Challenger from a dealer in NJ. I always admired the Challengers every show we went to and hoped to have one someday. My husband has been shopping everywhere to try to find me what I wanted. This beautiful car is beyond any expectations I had. It is an amazing car and a true survivor. Gateway Classic Cars went above and beyond any dealer I have ever dealt with to make this sale smooth and simple. Their service and help reminded me of the "old days" how people used to treat you at a car dealer. Nick, it was a pleasure doing business with you. If anyone is in the market for a quality classic....these are the people to call!!!

I've been working with Nic Thom at Gateway over the past few months looking for my dream car from college. Nic Thom was a true professional, not pushy, and treated me as if I were buying a car, everyone knows the dealer that does not believe you want a car unless you give them a down payment. When I received my 1966 f-100 it arrived with damage to the hood. When I confronted Josh and Chris from Florida dealership they tried to say that the shipper was at fault. When I showed Gateway Classics the bill of lading signed by Chris G. of Gateway Classics, clearly showing the damage marked on the paperwork before it left the showroom. Chris and Josh said they would discuss with their management. Shortly after I received an E mail saying that they would not pay for any damages to the truck. I have never been contacted by any management staff and as far as I know this matter has never been investigated. This seems very cut and dried to me, any dealer that cared about their reputation would want to try and resolve this. When unloading the truck in Minot,ND. The delivery driver told me that Gateway Classic staff had the hood open to boost the truck before loading, and that they had problems with the hood. The shipper noted the damage on the bill of lading and got it signed by Chris G of Gateway Classics before it left the showroom. I don't know why Gateway Classics feel that they have no responsibility in this matter as I have never been given an explanation. I am very disappointed in the after sale treatment. Please own up to the damage and lets get this matter dealt with before it goes any further..

My wife and I took a trip to buy the car of our dreams to the Louisville location and made a deal on a 73 Challenger that we wanted to drive back to Florida to make a long story short we only made it less than 200 miles and the trans failed above Nashville. I called them immediately and let them know to see what they would do . After spending 1200$ on getting it repaired plus toeing and a room for three days we had over 1600$ extra spent I offered to the dealership to take 500$ and call it even which they agreed to but little did i know that came with me signing an agreement that stated I couldn't say anything bad about them or i could be sued for 5000$ who in their rite mind would sign this?Well needless to say that is where the politeness and care ended. So if your looking for a company that as soon as you sign and pay turns into some of the rudest and most arrogant people I have dealt with this is the one you want !! It also took over a month to get the title for the car and every time i called to ask about it was told they had 30 days "BY LAW " to produce it which they didn't do. The only redeeming quality that I found was a Lady named Lisa which finally got the title situation straight and did so without being rude

I was in the market for a very particular vehicle, which Gateway Classic Cars happened to have for sale. I called and was helped through the entire process by Todd Soliday. He talked to me about the vehicle, recommended a certified appraiser, interfaced with the owner of the consigned vehicle and then helped me arrange for transportation. Once I had the vehicle, I received a follow-up communication. All in all, it was great experience, and I have already recommended Gateway to a friend that is looking for a classic car.

Like many others, my purchase experience with Todd was flawless. He was responsive and extremely helpful in answering any questions I had. I was a little leary in purchasing the car sight unseen. It had been for sale for some time and I was concerned why. Since I was not going to fly out to look the car over myself, I asked Todd extensively about the car as if he were my eyes. Once he had me satisfied that this car was what I was looking for, I arranged for an independent inspection. His description of the car matched up with the inspection I had done, so based on that I completed the deal. Thanks Todd! I have always wanted a 1941 Willys for my collection and now I have it! Great car. Great salesman. Great experience.

I saw a 1937 Pontiac Silver Streak on Gatewayclassiccars.com/Chicago and really liked what I saw. After talking with Todd and Nic I decided to make the trip to the Chicago showroom from my home in Wisconsin. I was pleasantly surprised at the showroom itself and the quality of the cars available. Todd was working the day I was there so we worked with him on looking over the '37 Pontiac. I had brought along a "car guy" friend of mine to help me with pointing out details on the car. Todd told us to take as much time as we wanted. He was pleasant, sincere, and friendly without being overbearing. He answered all of our questions and help with all of the paperwork. And I did buy the car. Overall it was a great experience in buying a classic car from Gateway.

I have sold 10 cars through Gateway over the past 15 years ( also bought a couple) and have had nothing but great experiences. The dealership has always been fair and upfront on what they value your car is worth. The transactions whether overseas or domestic have been very easy. I believe they have gotten me more for my car than I would have alone. Their advertising and relationships come at a better price than what I could do on my own. In addition not having to deal with tire kickers, ebay and craigslist scam makes the up front fees very reasonable. Sal has a great system that is able to put buyers and sellers together for fair pricing.

BUYER BEWARE!!!I purchased a 1933 Ford Coupe from the ORLANDO location in May for $45,000. After paying an additional $1,100.00 to have the car delivered, The transport shows up with a car that will not start. The battery access cover was off and laying in the seat, the driver says "Yes, they had to jump it to load it" .We also jump it to get it out of his trailer. After 4 days trying to trickle charge the MARINE battery that was in the car, I remove it and take it to 2 reputable local repair shops, it failed load tests at both locations. I purchase a new battery and after installing it, the car still will not start! The starter now is making a God awful noise. I crawl under the car to find the starter HANGING LOOSE and barely engaging the flexplate. I tighten it up and the car finally fires! The starter still isn't sounding right, so I remove it to find the that the cast nose of the starter is cracked (I'm sure from numerous attempts to start the car while hanging loose) I purchase a new starter. I now have an additional $500.00 into this car plus my labor just to hear it run! I have called GATEWAY several times, I have forwarded pictures of the battery on the load tester, showing it FAILED, as well as pictures of the defective starter. GATEWAY'S response is "We aren't going to do anything for you" They sold a vehicle that would not start on their lot without assist. These issues did not "pop up" while in the trailer being delivered, GATEWAY was aware of them and misrepresented the vehicle . UNREPUTABLE * LACK OF INTREGITY * DISHONEST

After a local and national search for a low mileage, special 2008 Mustang, I recently found just what I was looking for on the Gateway Classic Cars - Fort Lauderdale website. As a former CFO, this was the first time that I considered buying a car without inspecting it, and a test drive. But this became a reality after talking to Will Shelnut several times by phone, and email. Will was like working with a friend, and I became comfortable doing what I had never done before. Will was helpful and honest about describing the car's features. When I saw the car, and pulled onto the freeway for the first time, I could feel that the car was everything that he described. Will also provided good advice in putting me in contact with Pete Victorero at Rite Way Auto Transport, who arranged the transportation. I chose a covered transport, and picked it up at a truck stop not far from home. I received excellent communication from Pete and the driver, and the delivery was made ahead of the time promised.

I sold a. Triple black 1973 z28 that had recently been professionally restored through the Detroit store about a year ago. They make a lot of promise to just get your car telling you they have buyers already lined up. I had the car looked over by a couple local dealers, and had a lot of good things to say about my car, but when I took my car over there, they tore it apart. I was stuck and had no place to store it since it was during the fall time. I deceived to let them sell it anyway.I asked them to disclose the faults of my car to the potential buyer, they refused saying they don't share with the buyer any issues with their cars unless they specifically are asked.I found their business practices to be shady at least and and unethical, crooked, and dishonest at most.My advise is to stay far away from dealing with this company.

There are two kinds of Internet classic car dealers. Those who are honest about what they are selling, take photos that clearly show what issues are with the car, and give true feedback when asked questions. Then there are those who take photos to cover issues, misrepresent what they are selling, and lie over the phone just so they can make a sale and make a few bucks. Gateway is certainly in the later camp! Recently, I found a classic Mercury on there sight and called them to discuss. While it was obvious the interior was worn, they claimed in writing and verbally that the sled was all steel and that no damage was found. They also said it was very lightly used and driven. I made an offer based on the conversation and description and they took an initial deposit of $1,000 to hold pending finalization of the deal. Luckily, I had an appraiser/friend heading to Chicago the next day and told Gateway I would give him the signed paperwork and if he confirmed what was advertised, we would close the deal. The very next day the appraiser went to Gateway and the report back was far from what was advertised in both writing and verbally. The car was NOT all steel, damage was found all over the car, and the drivers door was well off alignment and had issues closing. Further, the car was shown to be driven extremely hard and it had been at least 15-20 years since a restoration. The appraisal came in at $23,000 vs a sales list price of over $40,000. Now is where a truly BAD company raises its ugly head. I called the sales rep to let him know the findings and told him to please credit back the $1,000 deposit. He said that the "accounting team" refused and said I could us the credit on a future purchase within the next 6 months. They NEVER said the deposit was non refundable and the rep told me to dispute the charge. I did and the charge was reversed but amazing how these yahoos do business. Avoid this company!!! Plenty of other reputable folks out there looking to help collectors, seller, and buyers. Gateway SUCKS!

Gateway Classic Cars in Lousiville should be ashamed of themselves, being a large dealer of classic automobiles one would think they'd pride themselves on their products and customer service. Instead of purchasing a truck which looked to be in prestigious condition (on the video provided by their website) I recieved a truck which had to be pushed off the lift, into my drive way and towed to a mechanic. Not only did their sales manager Dennis Severs deny any issues and blame the problems on "bad gas" he failed to mention the following: The Choke was broken, a broken headlight, no cable to the speedometer , a broken window, bad spark plugs, no horn, or working wiper switch and the front brakes were worn down to nothing. When directed to contact Brad Kline the Sales Manager of all showrooms, I was provided with no resolution. Please Don't believe pictures, the paint was an average job compared to the great pictures on site. I was under the impression I purchased a working truck, but instead after $1,300 worth of work at my expense, the truck will be running with no help from Gateway Classic Cars Louisville. I will never purchase from them again.

We inherited 2 Mod A replicas, one a 1929 Shay Roadster and the other 1930 Replicar Pantheon. we shipped them to Gateway for temporary storage since we had no idea what to do with them.A very patient Doug handled the storage situation . While in storage we met Brian who was both in sales and maintenance. Brian convinced us that the best thing to do was to consign the cars to Gateway to sell, so we had Brian list both cars. Brian informed us of a couple of problems with both cars. . We made the repairs which were minor but took 2 wks. to complete. Gregg allowed us an extra 2 wks on the listing . Steve , an excellent salesman sold the Shay in Feb 2015 and we re-listed the Replicar. In March 2015 Todd another very good sales person sold the Replicar. Although we did not get the price we wanted on both cars it was double what the estate would have received. If we had to do it over again the Gateway Chicago team of Brian, Steve and Todd would be our choice.. We are happy with the entire Gateway staff. Bill & Phyllis Doherty

I bought a '71 Buick Skylark GS and in the ad it stated "This car is ready to drive down to the beach", and "It rides and stops with ease." Wow, this couldn't have been more untrue! After receiving the car from the Tampa dealership (I live in California) I noticed the brakes were almost completely shot. I took it to a shop that specializes in classic cars, but was afraid I wouldn't make it there without having an accident, that's how poor the brakes were. The car also died without any discernible cause, in both forward and reverse. Well, long story short, the shop had to put in new brakes, new pads, & new rotors. On top of that the carburetor was bad, the muffler was shot, & the entire exhaust system had to be replaced (and the list goes on and on in regards to more minor things wrong with the car). Well, after more than $10,000 in repairs and four months after I bought it I finally have a car that runs correctly. I believe my sales rep, Rob knew the car had major problems because when I suggested I get it tuned up before I bought it, plus have a mechanic inspect it he wrote this to me in an e-mail "The tune-up has not been done since rebuild, however its just recommended, not necessarily required. I can have a mechanic come by and do an inspection, but truth is I actually have some undercarriage pictures that show newly installed control arms and suspension components. I would set up a mechanic to come look at it, but I would need a $1000 deposit on the car first. then you would need to pay the $100 to the mechanic separately. Truth is I would prefer to save you an extra couple of bucks on the inspection, and hope you can see from the pictures Im sending that it has had a lot of work done." Well, obviously I believed him, and bought it without having the tune up done first, or having a mechanic inspect it, and as a result I had to spend the above mentioned $10,000 plus in repairs just to get the car operational. This is the worst kind of salesmanship, which is basically deceitful. Obviously I wouldn't recommend this dealership. By the way, I'm sure their response will be "why did you wait four months before letting us know", which I've read is their usual response to complaints. My response would be that I wanted to get all the repairs done first before writing this review, and it took this long. Whatever they say in response to my review, don't believe it. It will simply be another untruth in an attempt to defend themselves and their dealership.

What I mean by that is I never have built or worked on any car in my life.I however do come from a Harley Davidson back ground so i know how to hold a wrench(kinda)I had been looking for a 70's era T/A for some time. I did not relay care what year from 76-79.I found three dealers that specialized in vintage cars that had some nice stuff on their lots.I knew that my car would have to be shipped to me since it is winter here and we have a ton of salt on our roads not wanting to drive a nice car though it.So Picked out one of my favorite cars and gave a call to see the cost of shipping.I called gateway classic cars in Il. Which is the closest to me about a six hour ride.I thought we could ride down and take a look see. The sales men that answered the phone was Todd. Todd is a very nice guy and easy to talk to.I told him my plan and he said he would get me a shipping quote. In just a few minuets he got back to me with two quotes. I told him I would take the car and gave a deposit to hold the car. From there on out it was too easy. It took just a short time to get the paper work and wire the money over. I asked Todd a few questions concerning the car and he answered them very honestly. Now I have to say buying something like this sight unseen is a little nerve racking but I 'am realistic as well I had seen all the pics on the web sight and saw the flaws the car had.I knew a 36 year old car with 30,000 mile and all original paint would be nice but I still did not expect perfection. Heck back in the 70's these cars were not perfect when new in fact far from it. Lets face it I love these cars but any of us that was a teen in the 70's know that the 70's cars is what helped kill the US auto makers. Ant way Todd called me and told me the transport wanted to pick up my car right away so i never made the trip to even see it. I said ship it.The trans port folks were the best they were a husband and wife teem with a beautiful car hauler. They had six cars in it and it was cool. They were so very nice and accommodating.Unloaded my new "old" car in -17deg. It was so cold it took me a few days to truly look it over.Yes the car had some small issues but like i said in 36 years plastic rots and falls apart. But the car is and was 95% done. So with some help from the inter net and Fbodywarehouse. The car is in great shape and runs like a top. I say good job to Todd and the boys a Gateway classic cars.Would I recommend them. YES I would, In fact i would buy from Todd again. I just may, A 1979 Z28 would look cool next to my Trans Am. So Big Thank you to Todd,Gateway classic cars the transport folks and Fbodywarehouse. We could not be happier.

Good service and professional attitude was what I experienced with Gateway Classics. Todd Soliday was very helpful and with reliable communication helped with the purchase of the 1981 Ford Classic Model A, built by Replicar. Todd made the paper work easy in the transaction. I would do business again in the future with the Chicago Team.

This review is for the Tampa showroom. Bought a 1971 Nova from a salesman named Rob. When asked, he stated that there were NO problems with this vehicle. I wanted to know the small details of what I would need to fix when I received it. He ensured me everything was in working order....this was not the case. First he shipped the car with a dead battery and no gas. He emailed my wife saying the key was left in the in position all night....ok then a reputable dealership would have 1) waited until this battery was completely recharged before shipping, or 2) replaced the battery. They did neither. Then I had to drive up to the local gas station to get 5 gal of gas just to get it started. After 2 hours of working on it, it finally started. That was just the start of this debacle. Other issues upon receipt...1) headlight knob pulled right off first time I tried to turn them on, 2) no rear seatbelts, 3) blinkers do not work, 4) gas guage and speedometer do not operate. Still looking for others. Bottom line, if you are considering purchasing a vehicle from this organization, YOU will need to ask specific questions or the vehicle you recieve will probably not be what you are asking for. Also, even if Rob didn't know all of these issues existed, then your salesperson may not have taken the time to go through the vehicle you want to buy, therefore you could possibly end up like me....sending the vehicle to the shop so it can be driven legally on the road. This is the first negative review I have ever put online...that is how disappointed I am.

This dealer has very bad customer service. I paid $32000 for a car in December 2014 that is not what they advertised. First they mailed me a title signed by someone other than the seller. DMV rejected it. Then the NC Theft Bureau told me the VIN tag on the door does not match the title or the serial number on the frame. Now I've got a car that has to be bonded and Gateway's staff won't assist or take my calls.Watch out!!!!

I have been a Corvette enthusiast most of my life......I was in the market for a first generation ZR1 when I came across one online at Gateway classics...Right off the bat they did a great job of photographing the car by posting 60 photos of it and a great video....So,I picked up the phone and spoke to Brian Mitchell.......I flat out said--Dude I can't fly to Chicago to see it so be straight up w me,is the car all that? He said Gateway has a solid reputation to up hold so if they say the car is good it's good....After talking w Brian a few times we struck a deal.....Even offered to keep the car in the showroom for 30 days..That allowed me to get a great price to ship to NY...I am happy to say that the car is exactly as described ,a really nice looking ZR1 which hopefully I will be able to enjoy for many years to come..

Found a 1957 Packard Clipper at this dealership that called out to us to buy. Naturally, we were nervous about purchasing a Classic Car online, but Denis Severs at Gateway was very helpful and professional. Along with Lisa Molck, Denis helped us find an independent inspector, shipping and explained the paperwork once we agreed on a price. The entire experience was enjoyable, and, in spite of one paperwork "hiccup" that was fixed immediately, it was the easiest and most pleasant car buying experience we have ever had! When the car arrived, it was nicer than we expected! In the future, when we are in the market to buy another automobile, Gateway Classic Cars will be our first stop.

I've always wanted a classic car, always wanted a "muscle car", and always wanted a convertible, so I was drawn to a shiny red, '71 Buick Skylark convertible 350 V-8 I saw listed by Gateway on Classiccars.com. I called them and spoke with my sales rep, Rob Weber. Rob couldn't have been more professional, polite, and responsive from start to finish (and I had a TON of questions; lol!). Anyway, long story short, I'm now eagerly awaiting transport of the above mentioned car that he just sold me, coming from Tampa to Southern California. I'm a bit nervous to say the least buying a car sight unseen, especially one being transported 3,000 miles across the country, but Rob and Gateway have done everything possible to allay my fears and assure me I'll love the car once I receive it as much as I have seeing the pictures. Thanks Rob, and Gateway for a job well done!P.S. - I'll update this review once I get the car and start driving it.Tom Lusey

Gateway Classic Cars has six stores in the Continental United States and on every continent except Antarctica. I knew that anyone this big would have a selection of vehicles I was looking for. I also surmised that they did not attain this stature without having a business plan for success. After scanning their inventory, I found a vehicle that matched what I was looking for at the Detroit location. The staff was professional, courteous, and treated me with respect. They answered my questions and gave me a choice of at least six transport companies. I chose the transport I wanted, and they took care of the rest of the process. My 1965 Ford Shelby GT 350 Fastback Tribute arrived in a timely manner with no problems. I would recommend that anyone looking for a classic vehicle to go to their website and scan their large inventory.

Using Gateway Classic Cars consignment sales service was the most efficient and cost effective way to sell one of my classic vehicle. Before putting the vehicle up for sale, they recommended that I have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic. I had one minor repair that need to be done to increase the overall appeal of the car, which resulted in a higher selling price The Sales staff research well and find out what other buyers are paying for the similar type of vehicle I was selling. They also scheduled for me a third party detailer to come to the showroom and prepare my vehicle for market. Their method of marketing produced tested and proven unparalleled results; better than any auction competitor. Gateway offers a fully integrated marketing strategy, with world wide reach. Before committing to Gateway, I did some research and found out they have aWorldwide buyer audience, Gateway Classic Cars has a superior industry reputation and has been in the industry for over 16 years. They posted between 30-50 high resolution pictures and high definition video with music of the cars era and a complete description of my vehicle was posted on gatewayclassiccars.com web site which gets over1.6 million hits a month world wide. They also promoted on numerious other niche web sites and periodicals were also use to highlight my vehicle. Another HUGE benefit to me was my vehicle Did NOT sit on a lot to display, where it can get scratched, damaged, driven to on lunch by non serious buyers...etc! The vehicle was displayed in an all indoor, climate controlled secured showroom. They qualify all potential buyers and handled all aspects of the sale for me. Gateway even offered financing for my buyer.I did not have to deal with strangers coming over to your home at weird hours of the day or night, sitting around waiting for someone to show up to look at my car, if they even came. I was not interrupted by phone calls or texts at all hours. I did not have to answer endless e-mails or send pictures. I did not miss any calls from serious buyers because the sales staff at Gateway were handling these for me. The whole process was seamless.

I first went to Gateway Classic Cars,Tampa,Fla location on sat.,April 12,2014..Jeff was on duty as one of the Sales Consultants..I specifically went to view a 1970 Chevy Classic Truck that had been restored and offered for sale..Jeff did his best to make me feel at ease and answer my questions..Because it was a classic vehicle,I wanted to have and Apprasier of my choosing come in and evaluate the vehicle..The Apprasier came in on the following monday.April 13th for his apprasial..From everything I was told Jeff did his best to help the Apprasier "do his thing" and evaluate the vehicle..Once I received word from the Apprasier the it would be a very good purchase in the area of their asking price,I called Jeff and we began a short negotiation with the owner and within about an hour we had a deal in place..I gave a small down payment to hold the vehicle and we agreed that the final transaction would take place the next morning..I drove to Gateway and finalized everything and was able to leave within an hour with "my" vehicle..It was a very positive buying experience and Jeff helped immensely with the negotiations between the former owner and myself..If I were ever in the market for another vehicle in the classic car market or I knew someone who desired to purchase a classic vehicle,I would send them to Gateway to speak with Jeff Burch.

To whom it may concern:My wife and I decided a few weeks back that we were interested in purchasing an antique and/or classic car. I spent many hours in reviewing past results of Barrett-Jackson and Mecum auctions to begin to gain an overall understanding of antique and/or classic cars. As an original owner of a 1970 Corvette, I was leaning toward purchasing an older Corvette Sting Ray, but I also began gaining an appreciation of street rods during this process. As part of my research, I also came across Gateway Classic Cars and which has a URL of www.gatewayclassiccars.com. I am very happy that I did for they have a great selection of antique and/or classic cars for you to review and choose from and which are located at six showrooms in Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Louisville, St. Louis and Tampa. While on a trip back to my birth State of Indiana, I visited both the Chicago (located in Tinley Park, IL) and Louisville (located in Memphis, IN) showrooms and was treated with great respect and service by Ryan Ellis of the Chicago showroom and Dennis Severs of the Louisville showroom. Dennis is a delight to meet and is a fantastic salesperson. When I locked on a 1934 Ford Tudor Sedan that I wanted to purchase, I felt Dennis handled the situation in an excellent fashion, inasmuch as I felt he represented the interests of both the seller and the buyer. Never did I feel that he did not have my best interests at heart, but nor did I feel that he was undercutting the interests of the seller and which in the end made me trust him. In other words, I believe I am, in part, a very proud owner of a 1934 Ford Tudor Sedan "street rod" due to the professionalism demonstrated and/or provided by Dennis.FBW of Marana, AZ

I purchased a Classic Cougar from Gateway Classic Cars recently, WHAT AN EXPERIANCE!!! Probably the best customer service I have received in a while. They seemed short staffed (only ran by two employees. Only a young lady in the office and the salesman Brandon) Everything went very smooth and easy. Quick and simple. I received my title less than 15 days after I purchased my car. Shipping was set up through the company, the car arrived within the week of purchasing. I could have gone and picked the car up myself but the price they quoted me for shipping was just too good to pass up. I would defiantly recommend this company to anyone in passing. I have my whole car club raving about my new Cougar and their efforts to make the whole transition a walk in the park!!!

Talked with sales rep Gary Nelson and said i was going to come and see the vehicle. Upon my arrival the rep says, oh i didn't think you were coming. Drove 2.5 hours to look at a 1955 ford customline and potentially buy it. Go out and look at the car it wouldn't start. Then after getting it started I ask if we can take it outside for a better look. It was not a well lit area. The rep says we dont test drive or move the cars. They didn't even have the row of lights on above the car. Rep says i can turn on the lights in which he never did. There was plenty of oil under and around the car. I tried looking under the vehicle but didn't feel like soaking up all the oil. I said I am suppose to buy a car I cant drive or see move or get a better look in the sun light. Rep told me most of their business is done without the customer ever seeing the car in person. This was Gateway Classic Cars in Tinely Park Ill. Completely disappointed. Im suppose to pay $17000 for a car I don't know even if it drives, turns, shifts properly.

I only blog on very bad or very good experiences. This was VERY BAD - so bad, a nightmare. Car delivered was a mechanical disaster!! Yes, $20,000 for a shiny piece of crap. + $5,000 for repairs to get it to run. Delivered with stratches, that they claimed was transporter fault, yet report was same report that left their facility. Car didn't start. They claim it must be the battery - transporter must have left lights on. I wish it was the battery. The list of problems where so long, so expensive. Stay far away from this company. Afterwards they will tell you Sold As-Is..you have buyers remorse. Great if they told you of the cracked dash, scratches, mechanical problems before you place order, instead of telling you lies. I asked if there was any rust on the car, their reply is they don't see any. What they won't tell you, is as the say they do not see any rust, is that they have their eyes closed. Don't buy what you think will be a dream car, because from them it is a nightmare car. Someone else's car on consignment... that probably sat on Craigslist first. But with their lights and camera you will get a shiney nightmare for a higher price. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE

I purchased a 1980 MGB from their Illinois location for my wife's birthday in January. The car looked beautiful in pictures and was sold as a completely redone/restore body and engine ready to drive. I made the mistake of trusting the salesperson who said the engine is in full functional status and so is the rest of the cars. He had pictures to back it.Upon arrival at my home I was not able to start the car. It had no carburator and was rigged to run only for few minutes at a time before it overheated and shut down. There are no functional breaks.I have had a mechanic work on it for the last month to fix it up and replace faulty parts and install missing engine parts to the tune so far of close to $2500.These people are crooks. Beware if you buy from them a car unseen and untested. Do not believe a word they say to you over the phone. If you do-it will be at your own peril as I learned to my own chagrin.

I am looking to purchase a corvette and am undecided on which type to buy. To help me with my decision I visited the Chicago location thinking that I could see and test drive a couple different models to help me with my decision. What I got out of this visit was one of the worst car buying experiences anyone could imagine. First, as I looked over the available cars I noticed how dirty they all were. This is an indoor show room that sells classic cars and the cars seemed barely touched from what I assumed was the day they arrived. The first car I looked a 73 that had leaves decaying in the engine compartment and the interior looked like they just took armor all and shined the dirt on the dash and console. I did drive a 89 and was just as disappointed. Just as dirty and the salesman was not aware that the drivers seat controls were broken. During the drive I explained that I am undecided and am looking to buy between now and spring. He lost interest at this point and refused to let me drive another car. At no time did he ask me how much I was willing to spend (up to 20K cash) or ask me if I had any further questions. It seemed as if he just stopped talking to me when he found out he was not selling to me to day. Between the condition of the vehicles and this so call salesmen I will never buy from or recommend this company to anyone.

We had a great experience with Gateway Classic Cars in IL....very professional, informative and helpful. Had 2 great vehicles to sell, one sold in 2 weeks and we rec'd the money without no hassle at all. Selling with Gateway Classic Cars was our 1st experience and we had worked with others for over a year (lots of money spent) with "NO" results. Gateway Classic Cars worked very hard to sell our vehicles plus checking the vehicles for the buyer as well (which is very important to us as well). Everyone was happy all around. We will be back as soon as a "new" one is ready to be put on the market. Thanks guys for all your help! No company will look out for the seller and the buyer.....this one does!!!!!

I am giving the low rating due to the extreme fraud that I feel was used when I purchased this car. although it looked good on the outside, everything else was in very bad shape. they advertised this as a low milage vehicle with matching numbers. The numbers did match but that was the only truth they told. After having the car thouroughly checked out by a certified mechanic, I was told there was no way that this car had only 61,000 miles and that judging from the condition of the underside carriage it had ALOT higher milage than I was told. It was at this time that he also checked the engine and things only got worse from there. I have replaced EVERYTHING UNDERNEATH and what wasn't replaced had to be painted due to the extreme rust!!After he checked the engine he found that the bearings where about to seize and I had to rebuild the engine otherwise it would have locked down within a few months or less.I have spent over 6500.00 dollars since I received the car in March and still finding other repairs that are necessary to have the car to run. Hope if anyone is looking for a CLASSIC CAR DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS DEALERSHIP.They advertise themselves to be above reproach when in fact they will say and advertise whatever they need to to make the sale. It is a shame that they can get away with this and nothing can be done. at this point I only want to save anyone else the expense and frustration that I have encountered dealing with these con artists.. DO NOT BELIEVE THE THINGS THEY WRITE IN THEIR ADVETISEMENTS. THEY ARE NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disappointment. Item not as promised. Be sure to have a trustworthy inspector, or better yet, appraiser evaluate any car you might want to buy. Do not believe what any dealer or sleezeman will tell you. They may only be telling you what you want to hear. Consignment dealers often do not inspect the cars --- they are marketing and marking up a private persons auto. A new paint job, doesn't mean it is perfect and has not runs, a new motor doesn't mean it was done professionally/ correctly or how many miles ago. Additives can be added to fuel to make a car run better, short term.
