This is our 6th Forester since 2004 and we find the vehicles well built, very reliable and easy to handle. Wouldn't own any other vehicle. The dealership treats us as family and we appreciate that treatment. All have been bought through Rick O'Neal who has treated us fairly an with our best interests in mind.. The vehicle shop service has always been excellent. The head manager always has a smile and pleasant word to say whenever we stop by.

I have had considerable experience with various car dealers over the years, (over 40 cars purchased in 53 years) and if you want a Subaru, or used car for that matter, this is the dealership that tops them all. Great low pressure salespeople, clean & well organized dealership, and top notch management just to mention a few of the positives. I have purchased nine Outbacks from Pape Subaru over the past five years( (NO!!! that is not a misprint), so they must be doing something right, especially when you consider I live in Oklahoma City. I have always received a fair price on my purchase as well as my trade and I get to visit Maine. Nope!!!!! I not related to anyone there.So, if you are interested in a Subaru, in my opinion, this is the place to go and I am positive you will not be disappointed.

Just got my 4the Subaru this fall from Pape Subaru. I have used this dealership since I moved to Maine and have been extremely satisfied with the service and my salesman, Rick O'Neal. I have never felt pressured in any way and have always been treated with friendly respect. Taking the car in for routine service has always been a good experience. I was recently in a very scary automobile accident and my car was totaled, so I needed to look for a new vehicle. I decided that I wanted a Subaru because of it's safety ratings. I brought my Subaru Forester to them for a starting issue. The car was still under warranty and had less than 30,000 miles on it. It was at the dealership five times in a span of three months and they were unable to remedy the problem. Scott in service suggested I video tape the starting issue with my iphone which I did. I showed him proof of the starting issue and he appeared to believe me at first. He later on was very disrespectful and condescending. At one point I was accused by the service manger Kristopher Corriveau of actually faking the problem. Honestly, the entire experience was very bizarre and it got to the point where Subaru National had to get involved. It was so strange to me that they did not believe me. I mean is that something people do? Go to dealerships and fake car problems? Why bother? It was all such a waste of time!!The outcome unfortunately was that they never fixed my car and I made a decision after my interaction with Kristopher Corriveau to never step foot in Pape again. I honestly feel that I was treated that way because I was a woman. My husband went to get my car and talked with the service manager who gave him a half-hearted apology to give to me. The whole experience was utterly ridiculous. I ended up writing a letter to the General Manager, Larry Stark about my experience and never received a response. I have never been treated in the manner I was treated by Pape Subaru at a place of business. I now take my new car to Patriot Subaru and they have been wonderful! It's a further drive, but totally worth it!!

We researched buying our latest Subaru on-line and with several dealers. After completing our research we had a good idea of what the new car we wanted should cost and what trade-in value should be allowed on our old car. Pape was able to give us what we wanted in a car at a price that was acceptable to us including the trade-in and we were able to do this much quicker than we expected. We had been dreading going through a long, drawn-out contentious process and were pleased to find that Pape made the process pleasant and prompt.

I have brought my vehicle to Pape Subaru in south Portland Maine twice to have service done. Both times I was very disappointed to say the least.The first time was to have the front control arms replaced due to a recall. (Thank you Subaru of America). Pape was able to replace the control arms, yet in doing so, they broke off two of the subframe bolts and did not bother to replace them. The rest of the subframe bolts were reused! The factory service manual warns to always replace with new subframe bolts. Driving away, the car creeked and cracked and clunked until it got so bad I had to repair it myself.I thought I would give the service department one more shot to redeem themselves, being my closest Subaru dealer. They gave me a quote of $350 to replace a rear wheel bearing. I sat outside in view of my car, curious to see how long it would take them to do the service. During disassembly, the mechanic used a sledge hammer to repeatedly smash the end of the axle in order to remove the axle nut, perhaps because his impact wrench was inadequate. (My cheap harbor freight impact has no problem whipping off axle nuts with no heat or hammer applied). The service took one hour and my bill had 2 hours labor for a total of around $600, almost twice the quote. When I took a look at the car, they had reused the smashed and mangled axle nut. Very disgusted, I decided I will NEVER return to pape Subaru in south Portland maine.I am writing this review today because I finally had a chance to take a look at the damage they had done and to replace the damaged axle nut. Upon disassembly, there was far more damage than expected. I wish I could upload some photos of the damage. The end of the axle was at least 1/4" shorter from the hammering and had been peined over so much the reduced diameter after the threaded section was actually wider than the threads! Worse than that, with the nut off, it exposed more severe hammer marks on the hub itself behind the nut! They either hammered the hub to intentionally sabotage it or didn't bother use a press to install the wheel bearings and just smashed them in with a maul. I had to file and grind down the whole end of the axle just to get a new axle nut to fit over the smashed axle end. That's when I realized the axle was really unfit to stay on the car. The damage was so bad, the whole threaded section of the axle was bent/twisted so that no thread chaser or die could fix. I was lucky I had a chance to fix the damage this dealership has done before a wheel fell off my car when my family is in it.I really love my Subaru and believe it is a very safe vehicle, as long as it is serviced to factory specifications. Pape subaru cannot be trusted to do any type of service to any vehicle at all! I will never step foot in pape Subaru ever again and I hope anyone thinking about having their car serviced at pape Subaru reads these reviews first. (Looks like im not the first or the last person to receive terrible service.) This dealership will sabotage your vehicle, lie to you, and then charge you a boatload for the damage they did.The service department at pape needs to be shut down before people are killed by their actions!

Needed to schedule a recall appt. First thing I was asked was to confirm my email address for a customer survey. 20 mins later, I am told that I need approx. 2k of repairs and half could be done while they had it up on the lift. When I told them I would have my personal mechanic take a look, I was made to wait 5 hrs for a one-hour appt. When I told Scott that I had lost 5 hrs of work because of them, he could not even offer up a 'Im sorry.' Haven't received my survey yet, hmmmmmmmm........

Took my car in for service. They overcharged me and gave me a bunch of hidden fees. They charged me for a tire rotation they never did. The mechanic that put the tires on my car vouched for this. Pape told me In order to pass an inspection it would cost me $1100. I took my car to my mechanic instead of having Pape fix it. He fixed it perfectly for $278, and warned me never to go to a dealer for repairs again. Go for warranty service and nothing else. Don't go to Pape for any service at all.

Completed a very frustrating and exhausting lease process at Pape and cannot recommend it to anyone.Beware of deception and hidden costs in the closing process.Insist on taking the lease paperwork home before signing and read every line.Imbedded in mine was a 300.00 disposition fee that I missed before signing, after being worn down by multiple visits by Salesman Jeff Bishop and money man Greg Kuranza to get new numbers from across the showroom. Greg made no mention of the disposition fee after negotiating down the 595.00 acquisition fee by adding 300.00 to trade-in allowance.The disposition fee was not part of the original numbers displayed to me on his monitor.Protect yourself from this type of deception by visiting the Maine government web site describing the lease process and what to look for. I am sure similar practices occur on purchases there. I regret giving Pape my business and do not look forward to my next visit in 3 years to turn in the car and pay at least 300.00 for the privilege.

We had an excellent experience at Pape. Jun was a gentleman. Originally there to look at the Forester that was promo'd, my wife found a better fit with the Crosstrek. Jun offered to bring a car from the showroom with no hesitation. All parts of the sales experience were steller. Highly recommend.

I bought my brand new impreza from this dealership in 2012 and had a wonderful sales experience. Unfortunately the service depart has ranged from "Meh" to out right horrible. The last time I took my car in for an oil change and inspection sticker. They forgot to put on the sticker and I didn't realize until I got home. So I called back to tell them and was told they would put it in the post to me (although this is illegal, but I didn't know that at the time). So after a couple of weeks I call - retell the story and am again told they will put it in the post. Couple more weeks pass - no sticker, so I call back again, explain it all over again. At that point I was berated and told that they would never have given me such advice and to quote the service person "the company is much more important to me than the inconvenience of one customer" - no sorry for the inconvenience or apology for the wrong information. I am a professional in a service industry and if I or one of my staff treated a client this way I am pretty sure I would never see that person again. I was flabergasted at the callous attitude and open disrespect for the customer.

I was in the market to buy a new 2013 Subaru Outback and decided to check online for reviews of different Subaru Dealerships close to my home. Pape Subaru had great reviews and then I checked out individual sales agents at Pape and found that David Lara had lots of favorable reviews. Called up Pape and asked to speak to David to set up an appointment for my wife and I to test drive the new 2013 Outbacks. One hour later, we were at the dealership with David waiting to greet us. He let us test drive two different Outbacks, discussed different features of the new Outbacks and we decided that we liked the Silver one. In the past, I have had bad experiences in buying new cars with lots of pressure but David was very different with no pressure, no sales tricks, etc. Just a friendly sales person who was willing to work with us to reach an agreeable price. Within a short time, we agreed on a great price for the new car that met all of our needs. Bob Schulte, the General Sales Manager also helped us make this happen. We got a new Outback with no pressure tactics which made it a very pleasurable buying experience. Since Pape participates in the Subaru Guaranteed Buy-Back program, I was able to trade in my 2008 Outback to complete the deal. By early afternoon, we were heading home in our new Outback. I would highly recommend this dealership and especially David.

We were in the market for a used car... something great on gas and affordable. We looked at the dealership we typically go to and their selection just was not what we expected. We found the perfect fit with Pape. From the moment we spoke to David we knew our experience was going to be great. However we never expected it to be so smooth and fun! That is right I used the word "fun" in describing our car buying experience. He listened to what we had to say and was sensitive with our price point. Never once did we feel like we were being sold. The day we went to pick up our 2010 Kia Forte he had even bought small gifts for the kids. The entire family walked away with a smile on their face. When we are ever in the market to purchase a vehicle in the future we will go nowhere else other than Pape Subaru. They are in the business of relationship building and just happen to sell cars. They have customers for life! I highly recommend this dealership.

I brought my car in to have the side mirrors looked at (they wiggle beyond normal when I drive). I have only owned the car 6 months and they have done this since I bought the car but I had never made it back to the dealership where I bought the car. So, I got my oil changed and had the mirrors assessed. I was told that that the mirrors were fine, which is fine, but odd given that I've owned multiple Subarus and never had this problem before. As I was pulling out of the dealership driveway, I went to adjust my mirrors (they had been left in less than useful positions), and the switch needed to control the mirrors fell forward into the inner dash area. I returned to the dealership and was informed that I would need to pay to have that fixed and he would need to order the part. I informed him that I did not have this problem prior to coming in for service. He assured me this was an unfortunate coincidence. I was shocked and appalled. I will certainly not be servicing my vehicle there ever again.Also, just a side note...at the service desk was a whiteboard with a sign that listed cars that the dealership was in DESPERATE need of...mine happened to be listed...a 2009 automatic Forester. While waiting for my service, I called the sales dept and asked what they would give me in trade for a new car. I was given an offensively low offer of $12,500 so without much to go on, I would say that perhaps this is not the best place to buy and/or trade in a vehicle either.

I called Pape Subaru and was connected with David Lara, David listened carefully, understood that I was coming in at my lunch break and knew I needed to have my trade-in evaluated and a test drive in a Forester. When I arrived, David wasn't immediately available (we didn't have an exact time figured out) but he had one of the sales people ready with keys to test drive a Forester that he thought would fit my need and to take a look at my trade. Image that, someone who respects that I have limited time and is prepared to make sure that time is spent efficiently, I was impressed! Test drive by myself too! Wow! It drives me nuts that a sales rep HAS to drive with me like I might steal or go for joy ride, impressed even more! Came back to the dealership, David met me, apologized that he wasn't able to meet with me when I came in and was almost done with his current customer but asked if I needed anything. I asked to see a model with leather, he quickly handed me keys to a "Limited" asked if I wanted to test drive it as he'd have plates put on, I passed, just wanted to sit in it. In a few minutes I was back in the dealership. He had numbers clearly written down, none of this "trade difference" with magical sales terminology that somehow was suppose to mesmerize me with "if we can get you where you need to be... will you buy this vehicle within the next .5 seconds..." Nope, just said, "I know your time is limited, this is where we are, bring your wife in for another test drive if you like and give me call if you have questions." Wow!My wife and I came back that night, worked a reasonable deal, picked up our 2012 Subaru Forester Premium with the cold weather package that Saturday. Love it! I was trading a VW Sportwagon TDi because we live on a road with a hill and even with snow tires it is with lots of work and worry that we may not get up the hill. VW was horrible in snow and we really needed the AWD of the Subaru. No snow yet to test it out but I have no doubt it will not be a problemThanks David! Thanks Keri (she was behind the scenes working the numbers)! One of the best experiences buying a car in a long time. I would HIGHLY recommend Pape Subaru and the great team over there! Outstanding Customer Service, excellent work ethic, friendly, no pressure, good price. Pape is what "makes Subaru a Subaru" for Maine!

When I purchased my 2010 Forester at Pape I was encouraged to also purchase a pre-paid service plan which would cover recommended maintenance through 45,000 miles. I paid $1050 and returned to Pape for each service interval. The 45,000 mile check was my final service under the plan on Dec. 12. At the conclusion I was told I owed $235 for the service because my mieage was over 45,000 (45,062). In other words, they charged me twice for the same service. When I questioned this, I was told they "could not put it in" once the mieage passed 45,000. (I had called for an appointment the previous week but could not find a workable time).Given that policy, I would plan on using a different dealership for my next Subaru purchase, not purchasing the pre-paid service plan again and moving maintenance services for my current vehicle to another location.

I never thought I could buy a brand new car until I walked into Pape Subaru!! This was the best car buying experience I have ever had. I was treated with respect. I was not pressured to buy a vehicle. The sales guy was very friendly he made me feel really comfortable. David was interested in what type of car would best suit me and my needs and made sure I would not only be happy with the choice I made but it would fit all my needs and lifestyle. When I did pick the style/model I liked, everything was explained to me about the paper work not only til I understood, but also until my husband was happy. I have never left a place where someone sold me something and had my husband actually say that was a great deal I liked so and so. But at Pape he also felt that we were treated fairly and not taken advantage of and sold something that was not right for us. I will tell everyone I know where I got my car from. It was a fantastic experience. I recently hit my 3000 miles and took my car in for an oil change. Which was very easy and convenient to schedule on line. When I arrived I was met in the parking lot by a member of service telling me where to park my car. When I pulled into the bay the gentleman who sold me the vehicle came over to say hello to me and asked me if I had any questions concerning the car. Service was quick, which was great because I left work to have it done and missed little time. I believe I delt with Scott in service. I just cannot say enough about every employee at Pape that I came in contact with. They were all professional, friendly and knowledgeable.

We bought a 2011 Legacy and were so pleased with the car, the service and with the experience that we decided to replace an older Outback with a 2012 Outback. Our salesman for both transactions was Davis Lara. He was knowledgeable, helpful, and a real professional. He made the car purchasing easy and fun. All of the Pape personnel have been top notch, from David, to the business manager, to the service department, as well as the courtesy van driver, Bob. We highly recommend Pape Subaru.

On our recent visit to Maine I had no intention of buying a used Subaru for my son. However, upon visiting Pape Subaru, we found the perfect fit! I've passed on a lot of deals before and couldn't walk away from this Impreza. I told David what price range we could work with and what payments would fit our budget and he and Keri made that happen. The experience was possibly the easiest and friendliest encounter I've ever had with a car dealership. David is incredibly personable, knowlegable and really instilled a lot of confidence in my decision making during this purchase. I thank everyone (including Bob who got me through all that paperwork!) at Pape Subaru for making our entire family a little happier (my youngest got his brother's OLD Impreza!).

I have been bringing my 2006 Subaru Forester to Pape for several years now after a recommendation from a friend. The service by far has been superior to the other dealership I had been working with and I would highly recommend Pape. Scott Frazier greets me by name, remembers me and my vehicle, and makes me feel welcome regardless of how busy he is. Kris Corriveau has also been a pleasure to work with. I was shopping on line from Fairbanks alaska and they had the best price!!!! and i looked every where. They fallowed all of my requests to the letter, took care of all details for me, they made a long distant over the internet / phone purchase as easy as it could be. When I showed up, the car was detailed, fueled, and ready to go. All of the paper work was ready. It was the easies purchase that I have ever made, simple, affordable, and fun. I flew to Maine from alaska and drove back. In a world where out of sight is out of mind, I was most impressed that after the sale I continued to hear from them. I would recommend buying from them.

I recently purchased my third Subaru, but this was my first experience with Pape Subaru. I was extremely impressed with their customer service, their patience in dealing with me throughout the process (I am admittedly an obnoxious market researcher and foot dragger) and their willingness to accommodate my needs by locating the exact vehicle I was looking to purchase. I worked with Rick O'Neal throughout the process. Rick was extremely knowledgeable about both the Subarus he had available and the competing products I was considering. Rick was very responsive, answered all my questions (even it it required some research) and was extremely accommodating of my time and schedule. I never felt pressured in any way, which was a refreshing shift from my prior purchase experiences.Without question this was the most enjoyable car purchasing experience I have had at any dealership.

I started looking in 2009 and finally purchased my new Forester in April of 2011. I had been working with Mr. Rick O'Neal for many months and he helped me with all my questions and together we negotiated a price I felt comfortable with. He let me know about all the extra products and services that were available to make my Subaru exactly what I needed. He is very knowledgeable about the Subaru line and its products and its nice to deal with someone who has experience. Making this purchase I felt confident working with him and his team as they prepared my car and it was even delivered to my home. I have has my car for about a month and Mr. O'Neal has followed up by calling me to make sure that I am still happy with my purchase. When it comes time to trade in this Subaru there is no doubt where I will be going and seeing.

I purchased my Subaru at a local dealership that assured me that I would be taken care of, however, when it came time for my first service, they expected to drive 40 minutes on a Saturday or take an hour out of my day. On a whim, I called Pape since it was closer to my office and found out they offer shuttle service in the greater Portland area. Now, every time I need service, I drop my car off in the morning and the shuttle takes me to work and picks me up again at night. I had originally purchased the service package that took care of all oil changes and routine service for 45000 miles. Since that has expired, I have continued to get my maintenance done at Pape even though it is more costly than Mieneke or VIP because of the wonderful service. When I call, I am greeted by name. I feel confident that I am well known there and even though my car was not originally purchased there, I feel that I am treated as a very valued customer. I would (and have) greatly recommend Pape Subaru to anyone! Thanks, Pape!

When I recently brought our second car in for 60,000 mile service the bill was the same as the estimate; no surprises or hidden costs. The total cost of the service was $300 less than at another Subaru dealer. And, since they didn't have a loaner car, they rented a car so I could do the shopping I needed to complete before departure for a trip to China. I had no time to spare and they helped me maximize every minute while my car was being serviced.

The service at Pape Subaru in South Portland Maine has been consistant and of a very high quality. During my last two service visits I showed up at the service desk at least 1/2 hour before my scheduled service time. Both times they took my vehicle ahead of schedule and I was back in my vehicle heading home ahead of my scheduled sevice appointment time. The service department has always been very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Pape Subaru to anyone requiring vehicle service.

I don't buy cars very often, so I worry about it alot. From the minute we walked in, however, David Lara was dealing with us in a useful, factual way with a minimum of BS. Everyone at the place was friendly and responsive and I definitely would go back again when I finally get around to buying another new car. There are no pap at Pape.

There were no games: offers were presented in a straightforward and honest manner and in a clear, understandable format. I avoid shopping or new cars as much as possible.From prior experience and research I selected 3 dealerships to shop at. One was a Ford dealership where I have made several purchases over the years and 2 Subaru dealerships in Southern Maine.I first went the the Subaru dealership in Saco where I test drove my first Subaru ever. The next day I went to Pape Subaru. Immediately I felt welcomed. David Lara listened to my purchase needs and plan. We test drove a Subaru, only in a color I did not want. I discussed my plans and was encouraged to try out the Ford car I was considering. I left with the message "if you return we'll make it happen with the car of your choice and within your budget. You won't be sorry if you return.".I went to the Ford dealership that has had much of my business over the last 15 years. I didn't find the car that was advertised or anything close to it.I called the Subaru dealership I had visited the prior day to follow up. No return calls.I returned to Pape. Although very busy I felt like I was the only customer there. No one tried to over sell me or step outside my budget. I was prepared and knew what I wanted to pay and what my trade in was worth.This was the first time I had ever shopped and made a buying decision on my own.I felt fairly treated and my boundaries respected. I was able to get the car of my choice with the options that made a difference to me.The follow up has been outstanding.I can't say enough about my wonderful experience at Pape Subaru and David Lara.
