Continuing in the mold established by the 1973 Carrera RS and the 964 Carrera RS, the 993 Carrera RS was the last and most sophisticated of the air-cooled RS Porsches made. As ever, the model was inspired by motorsport, in this case the Cup Carrera race cars which raced in the Supercup series that ran in conjunction with European Formula 1 races.The roadgoing variant featured the same 2mm larger 102mm bore which resulted in a displacement increase to 3746cc, enough to qualify under the German taxation system as a 3.8 liter engine. Other engine upgrades included larger valves and ports and strengthened valvetrain, resulting in 300hp. Other enhancements included seam-welded chassis, strut tower bar, more aggressive suspension with adjustable sway bars, 18 modular wheels with rolled fenders to clear them, ABD (automatic braking differential, to provide both traction control and a slip limiting function), enlarged brakes from the 993 Twin Turbo, and an aluminum front deck lid. Many features were deleted, although some could be added in as options, including airbags, electric windows and mirrors, central locking, sunroof, standard door interior trim panels, some sound proofing. Thinner glass was also fitted. Externally, a new front bumper, side skirts, and rear wing were fitted and the result was a car that weighed 220 pounds less than a standard rear wheel drive 993 Carrera coupe.This particular example was built in June of 1995 and was originally specified for the Dutch market. It is equipped with the folding hard-back sport seats, electric windows, and air conditioning. It spent most of its life in Japan and is accompanied by a thick file of service invoices showing routine maintenance in Japan, the first of which occurred at 2,796 kilometers and the last of which occurred at 64,097 km.The car was exported to Canada in 2020 and received $28,000 CAD of service work shortly thereafter at Porsche Centre Vancouver at 64,460km. An engine out reseal was performed and the timing chain guides were replaced, as were the ignition wires and spark plugs. A Porsche Classic radio (with Apple CarPlay) and new speakers were also fitted at this time, together with a new ECU due to some failed solders, along with one CV boot and hardware and one strut mount. In December of 2023, the car received an oil service and new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires along with an alignment. The car comes with a file of invoices and other documentation, as well as books set.
