2008 Ford Mustang GT500 The S197 Chassis Mustang was the brands first real look back at Mustangs past, and harkened back to the the original fastback and convertible that were offered in 1964. Whereas the prior generations high performance models were known as SVT Cobra this generation, Ford teamed back up with its old friend Carroll Shelby, and the name changed to the Ford Shelby GT500. Debuting in 2007, this car was a huge step forward from a performance standpoint for the Mustang and had acceleration to rival some of the best from Europe at the time. This 2008 GT500 coupe is a lifelong Seattle area car, and has been under the care of 3 owners from new. Finished in Performance White, this GT500 shows just 39,772 miles at the time of cataloging, and has been treated to a few high-quality performance upgrades over the years. The exterior is largely stock - which is a very good thing. When these cars came out, they were lauded for their throwback design and, especially in coupe form like this car, were some of the most sought after vehicles on the road. As a GT500, these cars received a new hood, revised front bumper, decklid spoiler and dual-5-spoke wheels. The interior is covered in black leather and gives a real cockpit feel that was new to the Mustang. The deeply hooded gauges remind you what kind of car you are in thanks to SVT badging and a centrally mounted boost gauge that lets you know what the supercharger is up to. The dashboard is covered by brushed aluminum which gives the interior a very clean overall look and the center stack is free of any distracting screens like you would find in a modern car. Where things get really interesting is under the hood. An all new 5.4-liter supercharged and intercooled V8 that produces 500 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. This is a massive jump over the prior generation SVT Cobra, and you can really feel it. That change is especially apparent on this car, that has been upgraded with a 2.5-inch supercharger pulley and JLT Intake which bumps power to 534 horsepower. The Tremec TR-6060 offers great shift feel and has also been upgraded with a stronger 2013 GT500 clutch and MGW shifter for shorter throws. At the rear, a 3.55 ratio limited slip differential from Ford Racing has been installed, and the vehicle sits a bit lower thanks to a set of Koni shocks and Eibach springs. Overall, this car doesnt behave much differently than a standard car, but the performance when you hit the gas is definitely noticeable. Even though some modern cars may be faster than this Mustang today, what you immediately notice when you get behind the wheel is how exciting these cars are to drive. They love to spin the tires and get sideways whenever you prompt them to do so, giving them the feel of being one of the last real muscle cars America has built.
