Many enthusiasts consider the E9X generation BMW M3 to be the last true M Car. This assertion is based on the combination of naturally aspirated engine, lack of overly invasive computers and frequent optioning of a manual gearbox. But one thing that isnt frequently talked about was the ability to order these cars without any interior LCD screens which may be one of the most important factors in the long run. As BMWs have always sat at the upper end of the car market from a price perspective - and the M3 typically being quite expensive given its size - those ordering a new BMW will frequently order it with all the latest tech gadgets. With the E9X chassis, there were numerous packages you could specify that would fit your car with a second hump in the dashboard that housed a screen for your navigation and many interior controls which were adjusted through the i-Drive system. Although very high tech at the time, as they age, these screens do show their age- as does any ten-plus-year-old tech product- making the so-called single hump cars uniquely desirable. This 2012 BMW E90 M3 Sedan was sold new on October 27, 2011 at BMW of Fremont in Fremont, CA. Finished in Alpine White, this two-owner long-term San Francisco Bay Area car was uniquely optioned from the factory with the lightest possible interior specification while also fitted with the Competition Package. Showing 37,996 Miles at the time of cataloging, this M3 is likely one of the ultimate specs for this chassis, and has been kept in exceptional condition from new. The car's exterior is remarkably clean, but a few subtle modifications take the car to the next level. Although the Competition Package lowers the M3 by 10mm both front and rear, this car has been fitted with KW coilovers that allow for greater height adjustability while retaining in-car changeable damper settings via the dynamic ride control. That being said, if you want to revert to stock, the original pieces are all included. The interior is perhaps the most unique part of this car. Optioned with a combination of leather and cloth upholstery, this was an available option throughout the E9X model run, yet a small fraction of the production ended up with this specification. That number becomes even smaller when you factor in the single-hump dashboard - it is said that of the post-LCI E90 M3s, only 443 examples were specified without a Navigation screen. As you would expect, the interior of this car remains in fantastic condition and is largely stock save for a red start button and a red M button on the steering wheel used to change drive modes. Powering the E90 generation M3 is the infamous S65 DOHC V8 which produces 414 horsepower and revs all the way to 8,400 rpm. As the final naturally aspirated M engine from BMW, this one made a statement. With 8 individual throttle bodies and VANOS variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust cams, the S65 is capable of providing gobs of low-end power while still revving higher than almost any other V8 on the market and making power around the tachometer. Records show that the rod bearings have been replaced with upgraded parts, which should remove any concern about using this car. Upgraded with a Dinan sport exhaust, this M3 may have gained a bit of power from the modification, but this system does a beautiful job at just opening the sound up a bit more, allowing you to hear what is, without a doubt, one of the greatest sounding engines of all time sing. This car was optioned with the desirable 6-speed manual gearbox that offers a fantastic shift feel and puts a smile on your face whenever you swap cogs. For the collectors, this is the gearbox you want. It is no secret that EAG loves the E9X generation M3s. We are big fans of the coupe and sedan, but really, these 4-door cars are our favorite.
