The oil amount and type for your 2006 Ford Explorer depend on which engine you have. The 4.0L V6 needs 5 US quarts of 5W-30 fully synthetic oil, while the larger 4.6L V6 requires 6 US quarts of 5W-20 synthetic oil. Both engines have a 16mm oil drain plug that needs 22 lbs-ft of torque to remove. It is recommended to change the oil in these vehicles every 7,500 miles.
