No. EpicVIN’s public lookup does not return an owner’s name or address. The Driver’s Privacy Protection Act of 1994 restricts disclosure of personal information from state motor-vehicle records. What the lookup returns is information about the vehicle, including specifications, title brands and auction records, odometer readings and recall campaigns, across a database containing 294,600,609 passenger vehicles.
Yes. Enter the plate number and issuing state, and the lookup returns the vehicle’s 17-character VIN together with the year, make, model and trim so you can confirm it is the correct vehicle. The plate-to-VIN lookup covers all 50 states plus Washington, D.C.; the VIN then provides the key for searching the vehicle’s available history.
Not through EpicVIN’s public lookup. The plate-to-VIN direction is available, while a current registration plate connected with a registered owner is subject to motor-vehicle privacy restrictions. If it is your own car, check your registration card, insurance documents or bill of sale, or contact your state DMV with proof of ownership. In the EpicVIN database, 12.0% of vehicles have records in more than one state, so an older plate may no longer be the current plate.
Yes. The basic plate-to-VIN match, the 17-character VIN, the year and make, and the initial vehicle snapshot are free and require no card or sign-up. A full vehicle history report containing deeper auction, title and odometer records is a paid product.
Yes, when those title records are available. In the EpicVIN database, 13.7% of passenger vehicles carry a salvage title and 0.2% carry a rebuilt title, while 22.0% have appeared at a salvage auction. Because an auction record and a title brand are different signals, review both rather than relying only on the current title.
The lookup covers all 50 U.S. states plus Washington, D.C. Each state page provides more specific information about local plate formats, vehicle-registration requirements and DMV rules. Start with California, Texas, Florida or New York, or choose another state from the directory above.
The plate lookup first verifies the vehicle against its standardized 17-character VIN, used on modern U.S.-market vehicles since model year 1981. History coverage depends on which records exist for the individual vehicle: EpicVIN uses title, auction, listing, odometer and recall sources, and 22.6% of passenger vehicles in the database contain at least one problem record. A clean result means no relevant record was found in the available data; it does not prove that no event ever occurred.
