Some Ford Transit 3.2 liter Diesel owners have reported a significant loss of coolant that can lead to overheating within fewer than 20,000 miles. Detecting these leaks can be challenging but commonly results in consistent coolant loss after driving long distances, sometimes around 3 quarts or more. This problem is linked to an NHTSA recall #10171949 concerning a defective EGR cooler that needs replacement. The notice applies to Transit models from 2015 to 2019 with 3.2L Diesel engines that exhibit coolant loss without visible antifreeze leakages. To address these issues, the problematic EGR cooler is swapped out with part number CK4Z-9U433-B. Transit owners can arrange to have this repair completed free of charge at their nearby Ford dealership.
