Based on NHTSA report number 10079524, certain Chevy Cruze models from 2011-2014 and Chevrolet Sonics from 2012-2014 with a 1.4-liter engine are being recalled due to a potential leak in the water pump. This leak, originating from the weep reservoir or water pump shaft seal, can lead to engine overheating and coolant leakage onto the engine and ground. While the recall includes replacing the water pump for free, it does not cover replacing the thermostat housing, which may experience overheating stress. If the water pump in the Cruze is failing, owners will receive warning signals such as Engine Hot, AC Off, and Check Engine lights.

While the 2014 Chevy Cruze could be included in a recall by GM due to a leaking water pump, it's important to note that the thermostat housing is not part of this recall.

I think there needs to be a recall for the thermostat housing since I recently purchased my car and it's already displaying a code indicating it requires a recall.

It's clear that a recall is necessary. I own a 2012 Chevy Cruze and have already had to replace the thermostat and housing unit twice. The first replacement was done at the dealership in 2019, and the second one was just recently in 2022. The mechanic who worked on it this year mentioned that this is a common issue with Cruze vehicles and those with the same engine type. They also pointed out that the parts used by the GM dealership, which were partly plastic, may have contributed to the problem. I inquired about upgrading to an aluminum part, which they said they could do. When you're having this issue fixed, I recommend asking your mechanic about the material used and whether it's the recommended part from GM. The cost was $600 for the first replacement and $718 this time.

I drive a 2014 Chevy Sonic hatchback and sometimes the engine light pops up because of the thermostat. When that happens, my AC stops working. But when I reset the engine light, the AC kicks back in. There should definitely be a recall on various Chevy models and years for this problem. Living in Florida, losing AC because of a faulty thermostat is a major issue!

I own a 2013 Chevy Sonic 1.8L, and recently I noticed a leak coming from the thermostat housing. I thought I fixed it by replacing the gasket, but the leak reappeared after a few days. This issue really needs to be addressed as a recall.

There absolutely needs to be a recall for the thermostat housing issue. The GM dealership I brought my car to is asking for more than $400.00 to fix it!
