Currently, there are no active recalls for the timing chain in a 2015 Chevy Equinox. While there have been instances of timing chain issues, the problem hasn't been widespread enough for Chevy and the NHTSA to issue a recall. Timing chain failure is a critical problem as it has the potential to completely ruin your engine, causing the pistons to overextend and potentially damage other internal engine components. If you notice unusual ticking noises or feel like your engine is misfiring or losing power, it's important to have your timing chain examined to prevent any damage.

Out of nowhere, timing chains unexpectedly snapping while the vehicle is in motion have led to a recall for the 2015 Chevy Equinox.

  • Andrew C.

When did they announce this recall? It happened to my car too. They mentioned that it applies to cars made up to 2013.

  • Teresa K

The timing chain in my Chevrolet just snapped, and it's going to cost a fortune to fix. Chevrolet should take responsibility for these costly repairs on the 2015 Equinox models and issue a recall.

It's time to pursue a class action lawsuit over this well-known issue, particularly affecting the 2015 models, and GM is not taking any action. I have been loyal to GM for three decades, but I am now considering switching to a different brand.

My 2015 Chevy Equinox experienced a sudden timing belt failure, causing damage to the header and valves while driving. The engine lost power, warning lights came on, and the car stalled. There are no recalls for this issue, and every mechanic I consulted mentioned no common problems with these 2.4 engines. It cost me $3500 to repair this unexpected and frustrating situation.

My car broke down in July. Chevy didn't provide any assistance. I had to spend $5,000 on a new engine.

I'm experiencing a similar problem now. My wife was driving from Richmond, Virginia back home to Greensboro, North Carolina this past Sunday. While traveling on I-95 at 70 mph, the car lost power and almost caused a rear-end collision. The 2015 Chevy Equinox is extremely dangerous and could result in fatalities. We had the car towed to a Chevy dealer in Richmond, and they diagnosed the issue as a need for a timing chain replacement. On Wednesday, the dealer recommended replacing the entire engine, which seems like a money-making scheme. As a lifelong Chevy owner, I'm considering switching to a different car manufacturer as soon as I have my car back in North Carolina. There should be a class action lawsuit against GM before a tragic accident occurs.

I'm currently handling this situation. The warning light on my car's dashboard came on last week, and I've owned it for just 3 years! I won't be able to take it to the dealership until Thursday. I believe the person involved in the lawsuit against the car manufacturer might be correct!!!!

My timing chain broke in my 2016 car and repair estimates are ranging from $4,000 to $7,000. A friend who owns a towing company mentioned he towed 3 Equinox vehicles last month with a similar issue. If I had been aware of this, I would not have chosen to buy an Equinox.

My car needed a new engine, which cost $1700. After only a year and a half, the same issue has arisen again. This is concerning - we should all be provided with a new, top-quality engine that doesn't use cheap overseas parts.

  • Tammy T.

My friend's engine was damaged yesterday by her timing belt in her 2015 Equinox. We have searched everywhere but couldn't find any recall for it.

I believe there should be a class action lawsuit or a recall for my 2015 Equinox that has been sitting in my yard for two years. One night it was very cold, and the timing chain blew my engine. I had recently finished paying it off and had put a lot of money into making it look great. Now it's just a costly lawn decoration that makes me upset whenever I see it sitting there. However, I'm not sure how to go about taking action on this issue.

My car's engine broke down more than a year ago. I got an extended warranty, but they won't cover the repairs. I'm not willing to foot the bill and I'm expecting Chevrolet to step up and resolve the issue. It's unacceptable to have to spend a lot for a car that's just five years old.

  • صخر عمر

I'm experiencing the same problem with my 2017 model. Can you provide information on how to join the lawsuit?

  • Willis S.

Perhaps it's fate that I narrowly escaped a potential accident when my car suddenly stalled while I was driving. It's baffling how I managed to avoid being hit. My car has had issues before, like stalling at stop signs due to a recall and the wiper motor malfunctioning during a thunderstorm, also due to a recall. And now, this latest incident just adds to my frustration. To put it simply, the 2015 Equinox has been nothing but trouble.

I drive a 2015 Equinox with all-wheel drive and the mechanics say my timing chain has issues. Has anyone experienced a situation where the low oil warning light didn't come on, even though the oil level was low? The shop claimed it needed just a quart and a half of oil.

  • Patrick

I am concerned now because I also own a 2015 Equinox. It seems like I might need to replace the timing chain sooner than expected.

  • Matthew K

I'm not aware of any issues yet. But sadly, my car just stopped working. It's currently at the auto shop. I'm praying that the engine is still salvageable!

  • Tim pauli

Our Equinox is also here. Got any updates?

I own a 2015 Chevy Equinox and had a Car Shield warranty. However, my claim was denied by the adjuster even though he initially said it would be covered due to a material failure with the timing chain. The reason given for denial was that one of my oil changes indicated the oil was 2 quarts low. I have realized that Car Shield is not trustworthy, as seen from their actions.

I own a 2015 Equinox that I purchased from a dealer in December 2020. Recently, my engine light has been intermittently turning on and off for the past couple of months. I have been getting regular oil changes done at the dealership. In December, the dealership informed me that I would soon need a new timing chain and that my water pump had a small leak. However, when I took my car to another mechanic, the diagnostic codes showed p0300 and p0411. The mechanic said that there was no need for a new timing chain and that there was no leak in the water pump. After spending $867 to fix the p0300 code, which I probably misunderstood, I was informed that it was resolved. Now, the mechanic suggests a $1700+ repair to fix the check engine light issue. I'm now concerned that I might actually require a new timing chain. It's worth noting that the initial $867 was due to misfires on all four cylinders. I assumed I would notice something if there was a significant issue, but after replacing the spark plugs and coils, my car drives the same as before. The only noticeable problem seems to be a lack of power when accelerating onto the highway.

Our 2015 Chevy Equinox LT is experiencing the common problems mentioned in previous posts. Ed Bozarth Chevrolet completely let us down. Despite faithfully keeping up with routine maintenance, the issue was never addressed. When we brought our car in for service, we were disregarded and provided with a harsh ultimatum. #LegalAction

Has anyone else experienced problems with their 2014 Chevy Equinox? My timing chain failed and caused serious damage to my engine without any warning signs like the check engine light coming on.

In November 2023, my 2015 Equinox with a 4-cylinder eco engine started up just fine with the key. After letting it run for about 10 minutes while I cleaned it out, everything seemed perfect. When I shut it off and later used the remote start to warm it up again, it worked like a charm as well. However, when I tried to start it with the key after it had warmed up, I suddenly heard a clunking sound coming from the engine. It struggled to idle and I had to continuously press the gas pedal to keep it running. The engine ran rough, there was a clanking noise, and for the first time ever, the gas pedal stuck to the floor before revving up and returning to normal.

Despite driving to a local convenience store and back without any issues, the real trouble arose when I headed to work, which was 11 miles away on the highway. The car seemed fine while driving to work, but when I tried to start it again after parking, the clunking returned, and it refused to start or idle properly. I had to have it towed to my mechanic, who informed me that the timing chain had broken and that the engine needed to be replaced due to additional damage caused by the timing chain failure. This came as a complete shock since there were no signs of any engine issues before. I always kept up with regular oil changes and maintenance, yet I had to pay off the car in August 2023 and have been hit with various expenses ever since – from new struts and control arms to sensors and now, a new engine.

Feeling frustrated, I had to purchase a new car to get back to my routine after relying on rides for a week. I have been following discussions on this forum and am adamant about holding the company accountable. I intend to seek out a lawyer to explore the possibility of taking legal action. Let's unite as a community and demand better! I'll keep tabs on all the posts and updates shared here.

I purchased a 2015 Equinox with a 4-cylinder engine five years ago. I have one final payment due on April 1st, 2024. During a recent oil change and diagnostic check that included an examination of the muffler system, it was discovered that the timing chain will eventually need to be replaced. Despite the issue not requiring immediate attention, it should be periodically monitored. Given the numerous complaints about this problem, Chevrolet should reconsider their stance that there aren't enough issues to warrant a recall. It's absurd, especially considering my car has just over 72,000 miles on it.

Experiencing a similar issue, resulting in expensive expenses.

  • Armand D.

The same thing happened to my 2015 Equinox as well. I've heard that the timing chains on these cars are terrible. There definitely should be a recall for this issue!

2015 Chevy Equinox for sale at 102,000 miles with a damaged timing chain and engine failure.

My 2015 Equinox's timing chain went bad three days ago. At first, it showed "power reduced" so I didn't drive it, and now it won't start because of the timing chain issue. 😞

My 2015 Chevy Equinox has an issue with the timing belt. Is there a recall for this problem?

  • Shvan

My 2015 Equinox suddenly stopped in traffic today without the engine light coming on. It restarted smoothly three times. I immediately took it to the mechanic, who diagnosed it as needing a timing chain kit despite only having 73,000 miles on it and receiving regular oil changes.

  • Beverly D

I purchased my 2015 Chevy Equinox LT in August 2022, with 81,000 miles from a dealership. Less than 10 months later, my car started stalling and the RPMs wouldn't increase. It would start without any issue, but would stall once I shifted into drive. I was informed that the issue might be with the Throttle Body. When I took it to my mechanic, they temporarily fixed it so I could get to work, but the car became completely immobile after that. Later that day, I was told that the timing chain was on the verge of failing as metal pieces were discovered on the UV screen. After an oil change, I managed to drive it home, however, the next morning, it stalled again as soon as I put it in drive mode and wouldn't move. A different mechanic confirmed that there were already metal particles in the oil. It seems like I'm in a tough spot, especially since the dealership doesn't seem interested in helping and claims it's my issue to deal with. This situation is frustrating as I've only had the car for under 10 months and it now has 100,824 miles on it.

My 2015 Equinox's timing chain broke, and I'm wondering why there hasn't been a recall for this issue.

  • frank.cook

Purchased a 2015 Equinox three years back, and now the timing chain is malfunctioning. We have an appointment scheduled for August 1st for repairs. I am 78 years old, and my husband is 75 and had a bad stroke. We need a car for doctor's appointments, but now we're stuck with this problematic vehicle. The dealership and the manufacturer should be held accountable. It seems like the dealership was aware of these issues but took advantage of us when they saw us, elderly people, walking in.

  • Frances D.

I own a 2015 Chevy Equinox and it seems like the timing is starting to have issues for a vehicle of that year. I wouldn't expect it to be failing already.

  • Sally H

My 2015 Equinox with a 2.4-liter engine just had a timing chain failure. It's currently at the mechanic's shop, and I'm eagerly waiting to find out if the engine is salvageable. I've had this car since it was brand new, and I've always had the oil changed exclusively at the dealership. The car has 143,000 miles on it.

  • Tammi M.

Have you heard any updates on what GM is going to do? The tow driver mentioned that this is the third time this week he's seen a GM vehicle with the same issue.

  • Jerry Boren

Why haven't there been any recalls for the 2015 model year? When I discuss this issue with other car owners and dealers, everybody is aware of the problem. This issue diminishes the value of my 2015 Equinox, which has only traveled 92,000 miles.

  • Stephen H

My 2015 Equinox's timing part is failing too. The Chevy dealer in my area gave me an estimate of over $2000, excluding taxes. Another mechanic mentioned that I was the 5th person they've fixed recently with the same problem. This is a clear indication that there should be a recall for this issue.

  • Leonard E.

I was driving my 2015 Chevy Equinox when the timing chain suddenly broke. It was a surprise since there were no prior warnings. I'm still paying for the car and now it's stranded in the middle of nowhere. General Motors should issue a recall for this issue.

  • Darrell E.

I just shelled out nearly $2600 for a repair on the chain package of my 2015 Equinox. There were no prior warnings, my car kept stalling, and then it began making a loud knocking sound. Thankfully, I was close to the Chevrolet dealership.

  • Tiffany Wright

I purchased a 2014 Chevy Equinox from a dealer a year ago and made sure to regularly change the oil. While driving on the highway, the timing chain suddenly broke, resulting in the need for a costly engine replacement estimated at around $5000. I am uncertain whether my warranty will cover this expense. My mechanic informed me that they have seen multiple Equinoxes with the same problem, yet there hasn't been a recall issued. Additionally, I still have an outstanding balance on the car.

  • Stan T

Here's a more concise and unique version of the text you provided: In the past two and a half years, my 2015 Chevy Equinox has had three timing chain failures, leading to costly engine repairs totaling over $1,500 each time. Despite these recurring issues, GM has not addressed the problems or taken any responsibility.

  • Jerome V.

In 2017, I faced a similar issue when my engine died on me. I have no other option but to get it repaired, especially since I am still paying off the car.

  • Andrew K.

Had to change the timing chain on our 2015 Equinox SUV.

  • Megan Thompson

I have a similar situation. Our 2015 Equinox unexpectedly had a motor failure. They are asking for $10,300 to replace it. Thank you!

  • Kenisha F.

I own a 2015 Chevy Equinox and I need to replace the timing chain. It's frustrating that I've only had the car for 7 years and I'm facing this costly repair already! I diligently keep up with oil changes, and yet this issue arose. It's infuriating! There should be an investigation for a recall on this matter! 😠😠😠

  • Stili

I recently discovered that the timing in my 2015 Chevy Equinox with 65,000 miles has failed, and I've been informed that I require a new engine costing $6,071.67 plus $3,400 for labor. This unexpected expense has left me stunned, and I have decided that I will not be purchasing a Chevy again. The situation seems unreasonable to me.

  • Pauline K

The timing chain of our 2015 Equinox broke and caused significant damage to the engine. Argh!

  • John mccafferty

My engine was ruined because of a faulty drive chain at only 90,000 miles and 8 years old. This is unacceptable. GM should take responsibility and assist with the $8,000 cost for a replacement, but neither the dealer nor GM is willing to help cover any expenses.

  • Gary R.

In 2015, the Equinox had its engine fail just over 100,000 miles because of a faulty timing belt. A replacement motor from the north was installed for $4500, along with a new timing belt. However, after a year of use by the wife, the engine failed again because the timing belt slipped, causing damage to the entire top end of the engine. An urgent solution is needed for this recurring issue.

  • Belveno

All Ecotec engines in my 2010 Malibu are making a ticking sound resembling a misfire when starting. What steps should I take for legal action?

  • Bart Z

I haven't received any updates on the timing chain issue yet. I'm considering checking out the laws that protect consumers who buy faulty products. My previous Chevrolet lasted over 400,000 miles with very few repairs. It seems like they want me to purchase a new car every 100,000 miles.

  • Alfred G

I had a similar experience when the engine blew out on me! Honestly, it's just not worth the hassle of trying to repair it!
