The BMW X1 is outfitted with advanced Park Assist capabilities, which are part of its "CoPilot Driver Assistance" suite. This parking aid is continually active, evaluating potential parallel parking spaces while the car is moving at 21 miles per hour or less. It functions from a distance of up to 1.5 meters from other parked vehicles or the curb. Once a suitable parking space is detected, the driver activates the turn signal to engage the park assist. At this point, the X1 assumes control of the steering while the driver manages the accelerator, brake pedals, and gear shift. The parking process is overseen via the Control Display, which provides feedback on movement and fit using synchronized chimes and/or warning sounds. The system is powered by externally mounted sensors that employ radar technology to assess distances.
