The recall notice 15no1 impacts certain models of the 2011-2012 Ford Explorer. It concerns defective steering gears that were put in as replacements from September 2013 to January 2014. These faulty gears could freeze or become stuck, making it impossible for the driver to steer safely, which poses a danger. Owners affected by this issue are eligible to receive free replacements for the affected gears. The recall was initiated on January 29, 2014. The Ford Explorer utilizes an electronic power assistance system that does not rely on power steering fluid but rather a serpentine belt to aid in turning the steering wheel. Following 15 complaints received by the NHTSA, an investigation was launched concerning over 83,000 2011 Ford Explorers. The incidents of failure occurred at low speeds and involved challenges in turning the wheel and a lack of steering capability.

My 2012 Ford Explorer was recalled due to a steering issue. The steering wheel is currently locked, making it impossible to drive because it's extremely difficult to turn. The previous owner had it repaired, but I bought the car last year and now I'm facing the same problem. Unfortunately, I can't afford to take it to the dealer for repairs. Thank you for your help.

An issue with the steering system software caused a recall of hundreds of Ford Explorer SUVs. The recall was necessary to prevent accidents caused by a locked steering wheel, specifically impacting Explorer models from 2011 and 2012.
