Ford's 15N01 recall is offering an extended warranty for faulty power steering gears that are covered under recall 15S18. Notice 15S18 instructs dealerships to either reprogram the PCSM or replace the steering gear if specific diagnostic trouble codes are present or have been shown previously. The 15N01 recall provides an extended warranty for the existing gears if they were not already replaced under recall notice 15S18. These recalls pertain to 2011-2012 Ford Fusion models and other Ford vehicles, specifically the Fusions produced between September 7, 2010, and February 28, 2012, at Ford's Hermosillo plant. The warranty allows for a one-time replacement of the Fusion's steering gear within 10 years or 150,000 miles from the start date of the original service contract, or the earliest of the two occurrences.

Back in 2016, the Ford Fusion had to issue a recall labeled as 15N01. This recall was specifically aimed at replacing the power steering control module due to issues with diagnostics.

Do the 10 years begin after the recall 15S18? If that's the case, it occurred in 2015 and is comfortably within the 10-year timeframe.

My car, which has just 42,000 miles on it, is not being covered by Ford's warranty because of their "whichever comes first" policy. Not cool.
