The 2001 Ford F-150 5.4 has a coolant capacity of 25 quarts. If you need to replace the coolant, start by locating the radiator under the hood. It is situated in front of the engine compartment and has a plastic container attached to it called the coolant reservoir. This reservoir has a drain plug, a fill plug, and a dipstick for measuring the coolant level. If you are simply topping off the coolant, measure the amount in the reservoir and add more as needed. If you are flushing the system, open the drain plug to let the old coolant flow out into a bucket. You can use water to help flush the system until the water runs clear. Once the coolant is flushed, close the drain plug, fill the reservoir to the appropriate level indicated by the dipstick, and secure the cap back on.
