Owners of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra have raised concerns about issues with the driver's and rear door locks suddenly malfunctioning or not functioning correctly. Problems include difficulties with using the key fob or outside handle to lock or unlock the vehicle, as well as instances where the rear hatch latch fails. Some owners have noticed that the locks work when using the automatic buttons inside the car, but encounter issues with locking from outside. This problem is often attributed to a defective door lock actuator, which is a common issue with Hyundai vehicles. In certain cases, the latch assembly located within the door panel or rear hatch may also require repairs. The typical cost to replace a door lock actuator on a Hyundai Elantra ranges from $200 to $230 for parts and labor.

The driver's door on this vehicle is unable to be opened from outside despite being in the unlocked position. Neither using the key fob, actual key in the door, nor the latch can unlock the door. Additionally, the back door on the driver's side cannot be opened from either inside or outside, with the latch also in the unlock position.

This situation is absurd. I am unable to open the back door on the driver's side. It remains unresponsive both from the exterior and interior, even when the car is unlocked and the door is physically unlocked.

I'm not exactly sure about the process, but I think we should take legal action for this. It's unfair that we have to pay for repairs. I've already had issues with and replaced the driver's door lock actuator, and now the one on the rear passenger side has completely failed. It won't open from either the inside or outside. This is a major safety issue because if that door was the only way out in an accident, we could be stuck inside.

The back door cannot be unlocked using the key fob or any other method.

Issues with the door locks on the 2017 Hyundai Elantra stem from a faulty door lock actuator that requires replacement.

This situation is completely absurd and poses a safety risk. I find it incredulous that there hasn't been a recall for this issue yet. We're experiencing similar issues with our vehicle, where the rear driver's door won't open from either inside or outside, and the front passenger side only opens sporadically.

For certain 2017 Elantras (and possibly all Tucsons), Hyundai has increased the warranty on actuators to 10 years with no mileage limit.

Both of my right doors are jammed shut, and the back right door is stuck and won't budge.

Hyundai offers an extended warranty on the rear door lock mechanism. Contact your dealer to inquire about it. When I called and asked if the issue was part of a recall, I was informed by the service representative that it is a common problem. Therefore, I scheduled an appointment for them to repair it free of charge. I hope this information is beneficial for everyone.

I enjoy my car, but I won't buy another Elantra just because of this one issue. It took a long time for them to recall the front kicks last year, and now the back locks are having issues. My sister's comment was, "That's why we never bought another Hyundai after our first one.

This is a major issue. It all started with needing to yank on my driver's door handle three times before it would open. Plus, the driver's side back door won't open at all. Recently, I've found that I can't get the back passenger door to open either, whether I'm inside the car or outside. This means I can't reach the entire back seat, and it's concerning that soon I might not be able to enter or exit the car at all. I have an upcoming appointment, but I'm anxious that my car could become a hazard if I suddenly can't open any of the doors. Even when the doors are unlocked, the back ones refuse to budge from the inside. It's a worrisome situation.

It seems like a common issue. I wonder when Hyundai will initiate a recall for it.

My 2017 Hyundai's doors are having trouble opening with the key fob. Specifically, the passenger side requires me to enter the car and manually unlock it by reaching over. With this many issues, I feel like I shouldn't have to shell out over $200 to resolve them. It's crucial for me to have the doors functioning properly as soon as possible, as I am currently paying for a vehicle that isn't operating correctly.

  • Jose G

The back doors are secured, preventing anyone from entering through them.

The rear passenger door of my car suddenly won't open. It's time to contact Hyundai about my 2017 Hyundai Elantra.

  • Shane C

My car's front driver side door and rear passenger door do not open.

  • Kelly Jurca

I can't believe this issue isn't being treated as a recall; it needs to be fixed for free. Just weeks after getting my car, the passenger front door started acting up. But when I brought it to the mechanic at Lebanon Hyundai, he accused me of lying and claimed there was nothing wrong. I'm never buying another car from them again.

I drive a 2017 Hyundai Elantra and recently ran into a problem with my front driver side door. When I try to open it from the outside after unlocking with the key fob, it doesn't budge at first. I have to play around with the lock a few times before it finally unlocks.

I'm experiencing the exact problem with two doors, and the idea that it will be so expensive and there's no recall is just ridiculous.

  • Johnny E.

My 2017 Hyundai Elantra has a problem where the passenger door can only be opened from the inside. Recently, the rear driver's door has completely stopped opening, both from the inside and the outside. This situation is causing me a lot of anxiety while driving because I worry about getting stuck either inside or outside of the car due to malfunctioning doors.

I just bought a 2017 Elantra. The key fob isn't fully functioning to unlock the doors. I have to press it multiple times for it to work. Additionally, the back passenger door cannot be opened or unlocked using the fob or the manual lock from inside. This poses a safety concern in case of an emergency. How can you exit the car in such a situation?

  • Ruan

I've already had the passenger side lock replaced at dealership rates, but now the back passenger door won't open. It's the same issue, but I refuse to pay Hyundai for the repair. Their quality and customer service seem to have gone downhill. I'm looking to buy a new car, and it definitely won't be a Hyundai this time.

This situation is unacceptable, I'm fed up with people having to perform risky maneuvers like the Dukes of Hazzard.

I bought a brand new 2017 Hyundai Elantra at the age of 61, and it was my first new car ever. However, the passenger front door won't open from the outside. I mentioned this issue to the mechanic when he took the car for servicing, and he claimed it worked fine for him. Interestingly, during his first oil change for my car, he drove it back and it reeked of body odor, even though it was early in the morning. I had to roll down all the windows to get rid of the smell, which ended up taking away the new car scent. It's unbelievable.
