To reset your car's anti-theft system, start by entering the vehicle and closing the doors. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it on, then quickly turn it back off. Repeat this process a total of eight times in under 12 seconds. After the eighth time, leave the key in the on position, wait for about 5 minutes until the anti-theft light blinks. Once it blinks, start the engine to complete the reset. If the engine doesn't start, try to turn the key on and off faster.

Here's my experience: I drive a 1999 Ford Ranger with manual windows and locks, so no remote. I lost my only key, and had a locksmith come to cut a new one and program it. He spent several hours on it, but couldn't figure out why the key wasn't working. The theft light on my truck should blink every 2 seconds when the key is out, but it stayed solid when I tried to start the engine, which wouldn't start properly. To solve the issue, I did the following steps: disconnected the battery, inserted the key in the ignition in the "start" position, reconnected the battery, turned the key off, and then started the car as usual. It worked for me after having the battery disconnected for about an hour. If it doesn't work at first, you might want to try leaving the battery disconnected for longer.
