There are two common meanings for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) 2E1C in your BMW. It could indicate issues with "Firing Cylinder 5" or "DME Generator, Communications". However, neither provides much helpful information based on the descriptions. Generally, the most common reason for this error is the need to replace your spark plugs, accounting for about 90% of cases I've come across. In rare instances, it could also be related to the coils, especially if your plugs are relatively new. Additionally, this code is associated with misfirings, so you may notice your engine misfiring alongside the appearance of this code.
