To deactivate the security system in the 2014 Chevy Silverado, start by turning the key in the ignition to the "on" position and trying to start the engine. If the anti-theft system has activated, the vehicle won't start. Wait 10 minutes for the "security" warning light to stop flashing. Then, switch the key to the "off" position and pause for 5 seconds. Try to start the engine again. If the reset is successful, you should be able to drive the truck. Repeat these steps a maximum of three times to let the anti-theft feature unlock the ignition. Eventually, the Passlock Sensor Data Code will signal the ignition to turn on.

To reinitialize the anti-theft system on a 2014 Chevy Silverado, simply hit the unlock button on the key fob, keep the passenger door ajar, press the lock button on the door panel, and shut all the doors.

What on earth is a fob? And what exactly is a door card? There are some of us who are not familiar with car terminology.

What happens if that doesn't work?

The key fob is the remote attached to your keychain. I think the door card refers to the lock button on the doors. When the battery in the fob ran out, the truck activated its anti-theft system. I managed to start the truck and drive it briefly to our second garage. However, later on, the truck wouldn't start, and the theft light was flashing. I plan to replace the batteries in both key fobs. Can the reset instructions mentioned earlier be used to synchronize a new battery in the fob with the truck? Would the key need to be inserted into the ignition, and if so, should it be turned to the accessory or on position?

I drive a 2014 Silverado without a key fob. It's all manual - I even have to roll down the windows by hand.

I have a 2014 Sierra basic model here without a key fob. What on earth should I do in this situation?

If you own a 2006 or newer GM vehicle, it should come with a key fob and a door card, which is the term they've used for the door panel since the 1930s. If your car doesn't have a key fob, visit the dealership to get one. As a GM technician, I can confirm that all GM vehicles have had them since 2006. This information may not be relevant if your car is older.
