My car's starter failed prematurely at only 53,000 miles, even though it should have lasted well past 100,000 miles. It cost me over $1100 to replace it at the dealership. Interestingly, when I was there, I met another CRV owner who had the exact same issue - you turn the key, hear a single click, and then the car starts, but the problem keeps getting worse until you're worried it won't start at all. Why is the alternator important? It could lead to battery issues, although it shouldn't prevent the car from starting. I'm experiencing sporadic problems, mostly happening to my wife. I suspect it may be related to the brake switch or neutral lockout.
