The oil capacity of a 2006 VW Passat 3.6 is 5.8 quarts. Before changing the oil in the car, make sure the vehicle has been off for a few hours to avoid burning yourself on the hot oil. Find the oil pan in the engine bay, locate the drain plug underneath, and place a bucket beneath it. Remove the plug to allow the oil to drain into the bucket; this may take about an hour. After the oil has finished dripping, replace the drain plug and locate the intake port on top of the oil pan. Use a funnel to fill the oil pan to the full mark, being careful not to overfill. It's okay to be a little under, but overfilling can cause leaks and oil burn-off. Once the oil pan is filled, close the port, clean up any spills, and you're done.
