In 2012, the Ford F-150 with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine requires 6 quarts of oil. The recommended oils are Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend or SAE 5W-30 Full Synthetic motor oil. You can use a different oil as long as it has the same viscosity grade, meets Ford specification WSS-M2C946-A, and is Certified For Gasoline Engines” by the American Petroleum Institute. The F-150 comes with an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor that determines when the oil needs changing based on usage. The truck will alert you with an "OIL CHANGE REQUIRED” message in the message center, which can appear anywhere between 3,000 to 10,000 miles, depending on driving conditions. The harder the truck is driven, the sooner the message will appear.
