The error code 02443 on the Volkswagen Passat points to a problem with the wiring of the electronic parking brake. In most cases, the issue arises from worn or loose wires that connect the parking brake to either its power source or activation button, triggering the error. Alternatively, the error could stem from a malfunctioning button that is either stuck or jammed. To fix this, the recommended steps include examining the relevant wires and potentially replacing the EPB power button. Following the replacement, it is advised to disconnect the battery for 10 seconds, reconnect it, switch on the ignition, press the brake pedal, cycle through activating the parking brake twice, and then rescan the codes to clear the error. For 2006-2007 models, an updated Electronic Parking Brake switch is available under TSB 46-08-04, while 2008 models are not affected by this TSB.
