The gas tank size of a 2002 Chevy Avalanche varies depending on the engine type. For the 5.3 L V8 engine, the tank capacity is 31 gallons, and for the 8.1 L V8 engine, it can hold up to 37.5 gallons. Only use regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher to prevent engine knocking and potential damage. Avoid using gas containing methanol as it may cause corrosion to the plastic, rubber, and metal parts of the fuel system. To access the fuel cap, open the hinged door on the driver's side. Twist the cap counterclockwise to remove it and hang it on the tab inside the fuel door while refueling the vehicle.
