It is recommended to attach the ground cable to a chassis ground rather than the negative terminal of a dead or weak battery because automotive lead-acid batteries release hydrogen gas during charging, which could potentially cause sparking when removing the ground cable after jump-starting the vehicle.

The wiring for the headlights, driving lights, and ABS sensors has multiple grounding points located near each headlight and the negative terminal near the battery. Another ground is found on the left side of the engine compartment by the starter bolt to control the TCM. Yet another ground near the automatic transaxle manages the ignition and AC compressor.
