In a Ford Transit, the cylinder head temperature sensor, known as CHT, functions similarly to the engine coolant temperature sensor. Positioned beside the cylinder head at the rear of the engine block, it gauges the head temperature and transmits this information to the van’s main computer. Utilizing data from the CHT, the Transit's computer regulates fuel injection and cooling fan activation. The sensor also operates the coolant temperature gauge on the dashboard. When replacing the sensor, be cautious not to over-tighten it to prevent potential damage to the cylinder. Adhere to the recommended torque specifications provided in the owner’s manual. A failing sensor in the Transit could lead to overheating or starting issues.
