In 2010, the Chevy Colorado offered three engine choices. The standard engine was a 2.9L 4-cylinder, with two additional options: a 3.7L 5-cylinder and a 5.3L V8 engine. For the standard engine, it is recommended to use 5W-30 oil, or 0W-30 in cold climates to prevent oil freezing, with a 5 US quart capacity including the filter. The 3.7L engine requires the same type of oil, but has a larger capacity of 6 US quarts. The largest engine, the 5.3L V8, also uses 5W-30, but in freezing conditions, it should use 10W-30, with a capacity of 6 quarts.

The oil dipstick shows no oil when there are 10 quarts in the engine, putting it at the low level. However, when 12 quarts are added, it shows as full on the dipstick. Has anyone else experienced this unusual amount of oil?

For the 2010 Chevrolet Colorado, it is advised to use an oil that meets GM Standards GM6094M. The most suitable engine oil is the SAE-rated 5W-30. The 2.5L L4 engine requires 5.0 quarts (4.7 Liters) of oil, while the 3.6L V6 engine needs 6.0 quarts (5.7 Liters).
