The recommended oil for a 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500hd is Synthetic Motor Oil 5W-30. Before starting an oil change, ensure the vehicle has been parked and turned off for a couple of hours to avoid burning yourself on hot oil. Locate the oil pan and drain plug underneath the engine compartment. Place a bucket beneath the plug and remove it to allow the oil to drain out completely, which may take about an hour. Once the dripping stops, reattach the drain plug and find the intake port on top of the oil pan. Use a funnel to refill the oil pan to the full mark, being careful not to overfill. It's okay to be slightly under the full mark, but overfilling can cause leaks and oil burn-off. After filling, close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and you are done.
