The 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 needs 4.5 quarts of 5w30 synthetic oil for an oil change. To start, make sure the vehicle has been parked and turned off for a couple of hours to prevent potential burns from hot oil. Locate the oil pan and drain plug in the engine compartment. Place a bucket under the plug and remove it to let the oil drain completely, which might take about an hour. Once it stops dripping, replace the plug and find the oil intake port on the top of the pan. Fill the oil pan using a funnel, ensuring not to overfill. It's okay to be a little under the full mark, but overfilling can cause leaks and oil burn off. Seal the port, clean up any spills, and you're done.

In 2002, the base engine options for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 include the 4.3L V6 (engine codes [W] W and [X] X) which both need 4.5 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil. If you choose the 4.8L V8, you'll need 6 quarts of the same oil. For the 5.3L V8, whether it's flex fuel compatible or not, you'll also need 6 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil. The 6.0L V8 engine option for the 2002 Silverado 1500 also requires 6 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil.
