If you've got a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the recommended oil type and capacity is 5w30 and 6 quarts, respectively. It's important to stay on top of oil changes to keep the engine running smoothly. Generally, replacing the oil every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good practice to follow. Failing to do so could lead to engine issues and potentially cause the engine to fail. Using high-quality oil is vital for optimal engine performance. Signs that the oil needs attention include a burning smell or poor gas mileage. If you hear knocking noises from the engine, it's crucial to address the problem promptly to avoid any catastrophic incidents.

In 2006, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers a variety of engine choices, including the 4.3L V6 (4.5 quarts), 4.8L V8 (6 quarts), 5.3L V8 with engine codes [B] B, [T] D, and [T] T (all 6 quarts), 5.3L V8 Flex (6 quarts), and the 6.0L V8 (6 quarts). Chevrolet recommends using 5W30 synthetic oil for all engine options in the 2005 Silverado 1500. The 2006 Silverado 1500 HD exclusively comes with the 6.0L V8 engine with a capacity of 6 quarts, requiring 5W30 synthetic oil.

I apologize, but both my 2006 Silverado 1500 and my 1999 Silverado with a 4.3 Vortec engine used Valvoline MaxLife 5W30 oil. I was able to drive 300,000 miles with both trucks using this oil - they are the best trucks I've ever owned. I changed the conventional oil every 3,000 miles and synthetic oil every 5,000 miles.
