The recommended oil for a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 is 4.5 quarts of 5w30 synthetic oil. To change the oil in the vehicle, start by ensuring that the car has been parked and turned off for a couple of hours to avoid getting burned by the hot oil. Locate the oil pan in the engine compartment and find the drain plug underneath. Place a bucket beneath the plug and remove it to allow the oil to drain into the bucket. Let it drain completely, which may take about an hour. Once it's done draining, screw the drain plug back on and find the oil intake port on the top of the oil pan. Use a funnel to fill the oil pan to the full level, being careful not to overfill. It's okay to be slightly below full, but overfilling can cause leaks and oil burn off. Once it's filled, close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and you're all set.
