When you fold down the rear seats in the Nissan Xterra, the cargo space increases from 36.3 cubic feet to 65.7 cubic feet. The rear door clearance measures 35 inches at its lowest point and 45 inches wide at the narrowest. When the seats are down, there's around 54 inches of usable space from the bumper, but this decreases to 27 inches when the seats are up. Folding the rear seats involves a few steps that are not too difficult. Start by disconnecting the center seat belt and releasing the shoulder strap by using a key in the slot on the buckle. Secure the strap in the roof holder. Then, secure the outboard seatbelts on the door pillars' hooks. Remove the headrests by pressing and holding the button under them, and lift to release them from the seat back. Pull the strap in the center of each seat cushion to fold them towards the front. Lastly, pull the straps on the outer edge of each seat back to fold them forward.
