To change the spark plugs on a 2009 Nissan Altima, you will require a 5/8-inch socket. Initially, remove the engine cover by taking off three T5 torx head screws. After removing the engine cover, detach the coils secured by 10-millimeter hex head bolts. With the cover set aside, you can now access the spark plugs. Use a swivel extension with a ratchet and the 5/8-inch socket to turn the spark plugs counterclockwise for removal. When installing new plugs, turn the extension by hand until the spark plug is snug, then add the ratchet and turn it an additional 1/4 turn.
