I am currently in the process of changing the oil and oil filter on a 2004 Ford Mustang with a 3.9L engine. It requires more than 5 quarts of 5w20 oil, specifically 6 quarts to be precise. Make sure to double-check after adding 5 quarts to ensure it's filled properly. This engine hasn't been altered in any manner.

I have a 2004 3.9L engine and found that using 5 quarts of 5w-20 oil was insufficient. I needed to add an extra quart to have the oil level reach the desired mark.
