If you don't use the right oil in your Dodge Ram (or other Dodge vehicles), a code P1521 may appear. This code can show up if the oil viscosity is too high or too low. Another reason for this diagnostic trouble code could be a faulty engine oil pressure sensor or oil contamination. Your engine is made to work best with a specific oil weight and thickness. It's okay for there to be some slight variances, usually on the thicker side. However, using oil that is too thick or too thin can disrupt the truck's normal operation. That's why it's best to follow the manufacturer's recommendation for oil type, opting for the lowest weight they suggest, but not going any lower.
P1521 is showing up on a CHRYSLER vehicle due to using the wrong oil viscosity in a 2008 Chrysler on purpose. This incorrect oil choice prevents the engine from being tested properly, but the error code P1521 appears when the Starscan method is utilized.
