The Ford Focus uses DTC codes, which are saved in a different location from the ECU. These codes display on the driver's information screen within the gauge cluster. Ford provides a list of DTC codes and their meanings. If you see code E510 D900, it indicates a communication issue between the ignition and transmission systems. This typically results in the car not starting and often occurs when the ECU's wiring is damaged, causing the system to not receive signals from the transmission or ignition.
To fix the issue with your car running improperly, try rapidly switching your key on and off four times within six seconds. After doing so, press any button on the key to hear a sound. This action should resolve the problem caused by the immobilizer not detecting your key, which triggers the car to go into limp mode as it assumes theft is happening.
You'll have to either check the code in the manual or bring it to the store for assistance.
