It is recommended to use oil that is labeled with the API certification mark on the container. If you can't find that, you can alternatively use oil with an API grade SG/SH or SJ, Energy Conserving I & II. The suggested viscosity grade is SAE 5W-30, as using a different viscosity could cause serious engine damage. While synthetic oil is preferable, conventional oil can be used if it meets the same standards and viscosity rating. Regularly check the oil level by pulling out the dipstick, wiping it clean, reinserting it, then pulling it out again to verify the level and top up if necessary every time you fill up the gas tank.
