In a 2007 Chevy Impala 3.5 L, the crankshaft position sensor is situated on the engine's passenger side, positioned behind the crank pulley. To access it, you will need to take off the passenger tire, wheel liner, serpentine belt, and crank pulley. Utilizing a harmonic balancer puller is essential for pulley removal. This sensor keeps track of the crankshaft's rotational speed, using the collected data to regulate fuel delivery and ignition. A malfunctioning sensor can trigger the check engine light, make starting the car challenging, cause stalling, and rough idling. Replacing it typically costs between $200 and $300.

The crankshaft position sensor can be found at the back of the transaxle bracket on the right side of the vehicle. It is located under the exhaust manifold near the firewall. Look for the knock sensor, it is situated to the right and below.

My educated guess, without using Google, is that this is likely where the distributor used to be located, possibly above the bell housing or timing cover.
