The 2010 Ford F-150 is not equipped with a transmission dipstick for fluid inspection. Ford suggests having a dealership or mechanic regularly check the fluid for you. Instead of a dipstick, there is a small valve on the side of the transmission oil pan that can be opened slightly to release a small amount of fluid for examination. With the advancement of complex transmissions in vehicles, manufacturers have opted for mechanics to handle inspections rather than owners. While this approach has its advantages and disadvantages, one key drawback is that you won't be able to inspect the fluid yourself. Improper use of the valve may result in excessive fluid loss.

To monitor the fluid level, use a dipstick for one type of transmission, while the other type does not have a dipstick. Instead, for the second type, remove a plug on the side of the transmission where the dipstick tube would be inserted. You'll need a pump and a small tube to fill it up.

My 2010 F150 with a 5.4-liter engine doesn't have a dipstick; the method for checking the fluid is shown in the manual. You have to access a simple plug on the side of the transmission from below the truck. Apologies, everyone.

Crawl beneath the truck and locate the transmission. There should be a screw on the side that you can loosen to remove the dipstick. Once the dipstick is out, simply pour the transmission fluid in and you're all set.
