The transmission dipstick on the Ford 500 is located near the air intake hose and is marked by a black ring/handle at the end. To access the dipstick, you'll need to remove the top portion of the air filter housing and the intake hose. Low fluid levels can lead to issues like slipping gears, a burning smell, unusual leaks, and whining or grinding noises. The Ford 500's 3-liter 6-cylinder engine is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission that requires 7.4 US quarts of ATF-TYPE III-H Automatic Transmission Fluid. It's recommended to have the transmission filter and fluid flushed every 30,000-50,000 miles. Check the fluid levels when the transmission temperature reaches 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Darker or blacker fluids indicate the need for a flush and replacement.
The dipstick for checking the transmission fluid in a 2006 Ford 500 is situated on the driver's side within the engine compartment, underneath the air duct.
