To locate the fuel filter on a 2004 Subaru Legacy, check under the hood near the windshield washer fluid reservoir. Start by untightening the hose clamps and disconnecting the hoses at the top of the filter housing using a Phillips head screwdriver. After loosening the clamps, gently wiggle and remove the hoses while placing a rag around them to catch any gas that may leak out. There is a buckle-type clamp securing the filter canister, so release it and take out the filter. You might have to transfer the rubber sleeve from the old filter to the new one before installing the new filter and securing it with a clamp.
