The fuel pump driver module for the 2001 Ford F-150 can be found located just above the spare tire. It is secured to a steel cross-member with two fasteners. The aluminum base of the module is prone to corrosion due to being mounted against the steel. It is recommended to inspect or test this component if experiencing issues with fuel delivery. This module is responsible for regulating the voltage sent to the fuel pump in the vehicle. By managing the voltage, the module ensures that the engine receives consistent fuel pressure and delivery across various driving conditions. Signs of a malfunctioning module are exhibited through engine performance issues such as difficult startups, smoky ignition, stalling, or uneven idling.

My 2001 F150 supercrew 5.4 triton doesn't have a bed cover. I confirmed this with the service department at a Ford dealership, and they also confirmed that it wasn't included with the truck.

In 2004, the introduction of a fuel pump driver module marked a significant milestone. To confirm this, simply visit an online auto parts store and attempt to purchase one for a vehicle made before 2004. For further validation, search for a fuel pump driver module designed for a 2004 model or newer. Rest assured, if these modules were available for earlier years, they would be readily available for purchase.

I took out the spare tire from my 2000 F-150, but I didn't find a module on the cross member. I'm wondering if this model year actually has one.

Here's a paraphrased and reworded version of the text:

Alright, Ford didn't begin installing the Fuel Pump Driver Module until sometime between 2004 and 2008. If your truck is from 2000 to 2003, then it won't have this module. The issue likely lies with the Fuel Pump located inside the Gas Tank. However, before investigating further, it's important to first check the Fuel shut off switch. This switch can be found either in the center at the bottom of the dashboard or occasionally behind the back seat. If the red button is raised, push it back down to restore fuel flow to the injectors. Normally, this switch only activates in the event of an accident. Another component to inspect is the ECI Module, which is the big main module. In my 2002 Ford Supercrew, it is situated behind the passenger side plastic kick plate inside the truck on the lower right side. You'll need to remove the plastic cover secured by plastic push rivets to access it. If these two components aren't causing the issue, then the Fuel Pump in the tank needs replacing, although this task can be quite labor-intensive and costly. I had mine replaced a few years back at an approximate cost of $1,000.00.
