In a 2013 Ford Focus, you can locate the MAP sensor on the intake piping of the engine. Its main job is to measure the air pressure entering your vehicle and pass this data on to the ECU for calculating the required fuel quantity. As your vehicle goes up or down in elevation, the air pressure also changes. To adjust for this air pressure change, the ECU can increase fuel supply to the engine, ensuring proper air-to-fuel ratios and optimize engine performance. Before MAP sensors, adjusting for different elevations meant manually selecting the right carburetor jet to maintain sufficient power while driving.
