The O2 sensor in your 2009 Ford Escape is an important component of its emissions system and is typically found in multiple locations. This vehicle is equipped with O2 sensors that are positioned both before and after the catalytic converter. Depending on where the sensor is located, it may be on the right or left side of the engine, near either the first or second cylinder, particularly if it is on a bank. In-line engines have just one sensor. If either of your Escape's O2 sensors are failing, the check engine light will come on along with a diagnostic code.
