On the Ford Escape, there are four oxygen sensors situated on the exhaust system. Two are positioned prior to the catalytic converter, while the remaining two are located after it. Their primary function is to monitor the air-to-fuel ratio of the exhaust emissions, ensuring proper operation of the catalytic converter. These sensors play a crucial role in regulating the fuel and air mixture entering the engine. If any sensor malfunctions, you may experience poor engine performance or stalling while driving. A faulty sensor will trigger the check engine light on your dashboard.

The oxygen sensors in a Ford Escape can be found either under the hood or underneath the vehicle. In older models from 1995 and earlier, you can locate the sensor in the exhaust manifold or the front exhaust pipe near the manifold. For four-cylinder models, there is one oxygen sensor, while most V6 and V8 models have two sensors (one for each engine bank). From 1996 to the present day, newer models typically have between 2 to 5+ oxygen sensors. These sensors are usually positioned behind or in front of the catalytic converter, and they are connected to the exhaust pipe.
