If your Chevrolet Silverado is displaying a trouble code P0156 for a faulty bank 2 sensor 2, the check engine light will likely come on as well. Don't worry, fixing this issue is straightforward as the sensor is located behind the catalytic converter on the passenger's side. However, the problem might not always be the sensor itself; sometimes, it could indicate a failing catalytic converter. Replacing the sensor is easier and cheaper than replacing the catalytic converter due to its pricey rare earth metals. Hopefully, the issue is just the sensor and not the converter.

If I'm looking at the front of a 2014 Chevy Silverado LT 1500, which side corresponds to bank 2 for the sensors?

The oxygen sensors are in the exhaust pipes. B1 means the one on the right side, and B2 is on the left (when you're sitting in the driver's seat). The ones labeled as 1 are located before the catalytic converter, while the ones labeled as 2 are after it. To replace the oxygen sensors on your own, you can buy an O2 sensor tool and a matching socket from an auto parts store. Wait for the exhaust to warm up before working on unscrewing the sensor. This way, you can avoid the costly $250 per sensor replacement fee at a dealership. If you decide to replace them yourself, make sure to reprogram the engine electronic control module following the directions provided in the GM forum.
