In the 2012 Ford F-150 truck, there is a speed sensor located on the passenger side of the transmission housing at the output flange. This sensor is responsible for providing the engine with information about your speed. Without this data, the engine won't be able to properly control the pistons, leading to issues of either too much or too little power. This can ultimately damage the engine and may result in serious problems if not addressed. The speed sensor is a copper-colored plug that can be easily screwed in and out of its socket for replacement. On average, a new sensor costs about $70, which is reasonable and not a major expense.

I can't seem to locate it anywhere. It should be on the shelf, but it's just not there.

My 2012 Ford F-150 was indicating wrench icon on the dashboard, stuck in either 3rd or 5th gear, losing speed with error codes 0720 and 0721. I was planning to buy an output speed sensor but decided to wait until I had all the parts. However, I discovered that the ground wire connected to the PCM on the firewall was about to break. I fixed it, and I haven't had any issues since then.

The sensor measuring the speed of the output shaft is positioned inside, just above the valve body.
